re: Gable-Young - Your analysis of Loretta Young's and Clark Gable's charts got me thinking about birth times, trends, etc. I seem to be part of a cohort of women who had their one and only child at 40, we being some of the women who came of age in the late 60s and early seventies. Any prominent aspects affecting my group over those time eras? We definitely all came through that time when women/girls no longer had the absolute expectation (either personal or society-imposed) to marry and have kids right after college, or to "settle down" in some woman-friendly career, like teaching. We were the first wave to live feminism/women's lib. So what happened with us, astrologically speaking?

A. The Pill happened, along with the radical Uranus-Pluto conjunction in the 1960s that opposed conventional Saturn. It's noteworthy that the four main asteroids were first introduced into horoscopes, making a kind of gender balance among deployed planets.

re: Minnesota - Thanks for your thoughtful defense in the matter of the Minnesota education system and "liberalism." Your weekly newsletter is always a treat. However this comment of yours hit one of my personal issues. We are all in this together. Any person's children and grandchildren deserve a quality education. In part because they will be taking care of the previous generations as we get older. But also because it is morally correct to provide opportunities for every human to find his/her unique gifts to share with the world.

re: Trump Do you think Donald Trump has a chance? I think he touches a nerve in people. I think the political correctness has gone a little too far, we have all become a little mealy-mouthed.

re: Clark Gable - It is surprising how many male Hollywood stars have prominent Venus aspects. I wonder if the old label of "feminine planet" pertaining to Venus really has meaning. Now that male good looks, indeed beauty,

A. Actually, celebrities are said to be ruled by Venus. They attract attention, like Venus. We can see how well this works in Clark Gable's and Loretta Young's charts.

re: Loretta Young - Very good delineation..but one question remains for me unless I missed something. Who was in the role of Judy's father? Was Loretta married to someone else? Is there a physical resemblance to Clark? Is Judy still alive? By the way, I continue to be soooooo impressed by and with your skill at and capacity for, delineation!

A. Yes, the child is Clark Gable's. At one point, Loretta had her ears surgically altered because they stuck out so far, just like Clark's. Most everyone in Hollywood knew the truth. Loretta did get married to producer Tom Lewis in 1940, who took on the role of father, and they had two more sons. Loretta finally told her daughter in 1988 when Judy angrily confronted her, wanting to know the truth from her own mouth. Judy Lewis wrote a book, Uncommon Knowledge, about how it seemed she was the only one who didn't know her true parentage. She died in 2011.

re: Minnesota - In this week's NewsScope you have an article titled "Minnesota and the Jupiter-Uranus Cycle." You applaud the State's Governor for taxing the rich and raising the minimum wage, showing your liberal bias in interpreting mundane horoscopes, contrary to what you have said previously. BTW, what kind of jobs were created in Minnesota during those years? Serving patrons at McDonalds?

A. One of the reasons CNBC awarded the state the best place to do business is their excellent education system, to which an unusually large portion of the tax proceeds go to. As economists know, those with better educations get better jobs. That's why MN is at the top, not because the govt provides many low wage jobs.
As for my liberal bias, I wonder if you consider Warren Buffett to be a liberal? He has long supported tax reforms that share the burden more equitably. See his editorial on the subject here: nytimes.com/super-rich. I have also frequently written about the unfair leverage that the top 0.1% of the elite have over American politics, esp since the 2014 Supreme Court decision McCuthcheon vs the FEC allowed unlimited campaign donations. See neptunecafe.com/plutocracy
MN's plan works against this downward spiral into a Plutocracy, which is now the most unbalanced since 1929. If you consider that we are all connected psychically, socially, ecologically, and if 40 percent or more of the population is suffering financially, then that's a recipe for economic disaster. The federal government was designed to allow the states some self-determination, and if something works in one state, it can be replicated across the nation.
re: Trump - You asked on your site "will Trump win,". According to my calculations, Trump's progressed Part of Fortune will be closely square natal Uranus in Gemini, which is Natally in his 10th house. I do not think so - but it is possible that this could indicate the the election of Trump could be a shock to everyone including him!!

A. Perhaps so. That would be a shock and disruptive to the political system. But like you, I doubt he will win. Historically, the only connections involved with tenth house indicators have been harmonious aspects, most commonly, the conjunction.

re: Sanger Your writing on Margeret Sanger just makes her sound like such a lovely lady to do such wonderful things like paving the way for women and all... but really. DID her hatred for anything other than the white race get left out intentionally or are you just unaware?
I just love your astrological insight. But I swear you color it so much with your desire for the left to be all and win all. Maybe you just really dont realize it and see it ....I also am aware that there are not many Conservatives like myself who actually have a deep love or any understanding for astrology at all. You are obviously incredibly intelligent - or else you would not be able to comprehend the depths of Astrology the way you do.... but I have to say that intelligence stops when it comes to the loves of the left, communism, socialism, etc....

A. Actually, I am aware of her Nazi-like favoring of white supremacy. It's quite abhorrent. The problem is that I have only 250 to 300 words to get my astrological point across. I don't have the space to go into which of her policies were "good" and which were "bad". My aim was only to show how her birth control program was interconnected to today's politics via the Solar Eclipse.

re: U.S. economy - Isn't it a little ironic that the series of Uranus/Pluto squares is now over: ending in Spring 2015. Yet now, the economy starts to look shaky again with China's slowdown. Apparently 10 years of Federal Reserve intervention has its limits. It is almost like Uranus partially offset the Pluto opposition to the USA Sun but is no longer helping.

A. Uniquely in the U.S., Uranus has been a minor player in the Uranus-Pluto square. Most likely, the reason is because in the U.S. chart, the progressed Ascendant has been aligned with natal Pluto, emphasizing this factor. You can read about this in more detail at plutocracy

re: Pluto - You wrote: "However, the times are changing and elections may be decided by the Pluto factor." Thinking about this at a people level makes me cringe. A connection to the U.S. Moon used to be of the utmost importance. As a candidate, you have to connect with the people. You serve them. They vote for you. But now, it's all about power. The people don't matter anymore. SIGH

re: Pop Quiz - In answer to your Pop Quiz in your weekly Neptune Cafe newsletter, it looks like Donald Trump's progressed Part of Fortune is at zero degrees Scorpio. Will it be at 15 degrees Scorpio come election? Love reading your column each week!!

A. No, you're doing something wrong. His Part of Fortune (progressed) is currently at 2 degrees Virgo. Do you have astrology calculation software? It'll be at 19 degrees Virgo in Nov 2016, which squares his 10th house Uranus. This describes a disruptive force more than an election win.

Bernie Sanders and the Democratic Party Debate

A reader notes that “Bernie Sanders' natal chart has 8 planets conjuncting the U.S. Natal Chart. I don't see him winning, but that's a lot of conjunctions! I'm not surprised by his popularity.” It’s true that conjunctions between two charts are the most powerful bonds, and the more conjunctions, the tighter the connection. However, the reader uses a wide 8º orb to make this list.
As described two weeks ago, Sanders’ Virgo Sun is currently under the celestial protection of a transiting Jupiter-Pluto trine. Last week, his campaign announced that he had raised $26 million, almost as much as Hillary’s $28 million. This allows the Vermont senator to extend his campaign strategy beyond the early primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire. And for the Democratic Party debate on October 13, Sanders is looking strong.

Viewers will be watching the interaction between Sanders and Clinton, but we may not see any direct attacks there: his Mars in Aries trines her Mars in Leo, so they are more like team mates than adversaries. Still, transiting Mars at 11º Virgo is perfectly quincunx (150º) Sanders’ progressed Mars at 11º Aries, so he will be on edge and in a fighting mood. Yet with transiting Saturn sextile his Mercury, he will seem logical and practical to many.

A transiting Venus-Jupiter conjunction will then conjoin his Sun on October 24, which should be enormously rewarding in terms of improved poll numbers and financial backing. All these wonderful transits run counter to what Bernie Sanders is actually calling for, which is a “political revolution” akin to the Civil Rights movement. In order to carry out this plan, Sanders needs to have close connections to the U.S. Moon, which he doesn’t have. That is, unless his Ascendant or Midheaven makes the link. We still don’t have a birth time for this surging candidate.
The Oregon Shooter

Mass shootings in America by angry, mentally unstable men are increasing, with the latest horrific incident taking place just last Thursday, October 1. The astrological set-up for what is increasingly being recognized as a health issue is symbolized by the U.S. progressed Mars in the 12th house where it opposes Chiron in the 6th house. Last week, transiting Uranus activated this polarity.
The individual involved, Chris Mercer, was born with his Leo Sun closely quincunx Uranus (July 26, 1989; London, UK; time unknown), an erratic influence that can lead to sudden and radical breaks from habitual patterns. Mercer also has Mercury and Mars in Leo, and both are under severe, challenging aspects to other planets in his chart, leading to a negative Leo personality, which is to say, an egocentric megalomaniac.

Mars in Leo is actually an indicator for leadership, and inspires one to take heroic stands and actions. But in Mercer’s case, his Mars is closely trioctile (135º) Saturn in Capricorn, a combination with brutal or violent tendencies. He fancied himself as an Irish revolutionary as well as a Nazi sympathizer, and idolized guns. And then Mercury is exactly square Pluto, which in itself can be a warning sign for out-of-control mental fixations. Transiting Pluto had just turned direct while activating this Mercury-Pluto square.
Leos need attention, and Mercer figured that it “seems the more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight.” All his crazy notions can probably be attributed to sexual frustration and social isolation. At the time of the shooting, transiting Saturn was squaring his Venus: he was lonely and felt misunderstood and abandoned by his peers. He took action as transiting Jupiter conjoined his progressed Mars. Also, transiting Uranus (the trigger planet in the U.S. chart) was exactly opposite his natal Black Moon Lilith in the social sign of Libra.
Mercer’s entire blog comment can be read here
Richard Tarnas and the Changing of the Gods

For an example of the positive expression of challenging Mercury-Pluto aspects, astrologers need look no further than Richard Tarnas. His book Cosmos & Psyche has done more for the advancement of astrology in academic circles than any other effort, and largely because Tarnas had already made a name for himself with the 1990 publication of the philosophy textbook, Passions of the Western Mind.
Tarnas was born with a Sun-Vesta conjunction in Pisces (February 21, 1950; 12:30 pm; Geneva, Switzerland), a combination associated with the spiritual or religious devotee. However, with Gemini Rising and three planets in Aquarius, he’s more attuned to the scientific study of spirituality, which has manifested as an interest in human consciousness. The Sun-Vesta conjunction trines Uranus, so he naturally identifies with astrology, especially professionally, since Uranus rules his Aquarius Midheaven.

Pluto in the 3rd house of mental attitude opposes Mercury, a double influence that reflects his intense mental focus, deep research, and lengthy narratives that explore every angle of a thesis. Cosmos & Psyche is a lengthy treatise, but a groundbreaking one due to its detailed correlation of outer planet cycles with historical trends, notably, the evolution of human consciousness as expressed through political, cultural, and technological cycles.
Astrologers rarely consider progressed Jupiter because it moves so slowly, but when it does make an aspect, it can be huge. In Tarnas’ chart, progressed Jupiter is nearly exactly conjunct his Sun (orb: 0º02’), which represents a major opportunity to expand his visionary perspectives. The manifested project* is a film called “Changing of the Gods” based on his discussion of the Uranus-Pluto cycle in Cosmos & Psyche. Astrology is going mainstream!
re: mass murders - I think you have provided very convincing astrological details that confirm the Scorpio rising chart for the United States. It looks as though transiting Uranus will move out of orb to progressed Mars before too long. Do you think this will create a respite from mass murders such as the recent one in Oregon? I know there are other factors involved but taking Martian anger out of the set up looks positive for the future. Do you agree?

A. Yes, transiting Uranus will soon be out of range of activating the U.S. progressed Mars, but that definitely does not end the escalating trend of mass murders. Next come transiting Pluto, and also progressed Lilith will be joining progressed Mars in the U.S. 12th house. Progressed Lilith is just entering the U.S. 12th house now and will conjoin progressed Mars in January 2023, with both opposing progressed Chiron in the 6th house of health. This is an extremely dangerous set-up regarding violence as a health issue, and will be periodically activated by numerous outer planet transits between now and 2023.

re: guns - Given that the gun lobby is huge and powerful and that stupid amendment is, like, scripture to people, do you, also given this chart configuration, ever see anything ever being done to mitigate this stupidity? I refer you to Australia taking away everyone's guns after a particularly horrific mass killing. Since that nation-wide confiscation, no more mass killings. Imagine. Surprising how no guns can result in no killings.) I know that this is unlikely to happen to the Australian degree. But do you see gun enthusiasts giving an inch ever anywhere at all? Ever?

A. The Australian government didn't do a nation-wide confiscation of guns, but offered to buyback guns. The program was genius and inspirational, but would Americans follow suit? Unlikely any time soon, to my dismay.

re: NewsScope - I really love Neptune Café. I think NewsScope is the best astrology blog on the net.
