"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: NewsScope - Thank you so much.  You do wonderful work, and I consider it an education.

re: Reagan - I thought President Reagan died on June 5, 2004.  This week's NewScope column has a different date.

A. "when Ronald Reagan died" was meant to describe a time frame, so a ballpark figure within 3 days of the Venus occultation.

re: Whitney - I thought yours a lovely tribute to Whitney Houston and the title so appropriate. The article didn't condescend; it didn't overextend. But most important, it kept the focus on Whitney, rather than her dire relationship with B. Brown. She was a part of our family, in that we all were so much younger then, listening to this 19 year-old with a wonder voice. Thank you, Sir Michael!

re: NewsScope - You've got everything in the column this week: Pluto, money, international intrigue, and undersea UFOs. I wonder if the vast UFO coverup folks are going to be at work. Finding a UFO would upset the whole religious kittycart. Or it should. Well, except the scientologists.

re: Antares - Good column this week. Thank you.
I wanted to mention that USA Uranus is not conjunct bloodthirsty Antares but is in opposition to it (8 Sagittarius). It is, however, conjunct Aldebaran, which is associated with honor and integrity but also with warmongering. The USA's Uranus's opposition to Antares in relation to
the growing transiting Uranus-Pluto square (first one exact this June), could signal violence from and against the many who stand with the OCCUPY movement. Uranus can escalate through tactics of anarchy on location as well as through continued hacktivism behind the safety of a computer screen. Adding the election silly season and the brinksmanship of Israel, Iran and Syria to the mix, I believe we're heading for a long hot summer.

re: Gingrich - That was interesting, what you said about how only 3 Presidents had Mars in the 12th House+they were not even elected. Makes sense. I never thought about that before. Thank you.

re: NewsScope - "i so enjoy reading your columns....you are so insightful and astute.  keep up the good work."

re:  March 4 election for Russia: Is it just a judgment call when one uses the newly formed country of Russia's horoscope, after the dissolution of USSR, or whether one uses still the USSR horoscope that came about after WWI ? We're in a conundrum in Latvia, for example, with varied horoscopes  being used, one of them going back to the Republic's first chart in 1918...

A. I think the June 12, 1990 chart is the most relevant, but you might also pay attention to common degree areas between the various charts, as well as planetary combinations to chart cycles.
The Uranus-Pluto square in June aligns with Russia's Mars-UR square, so whatever happens in March is only the beginning of major internal upheaval, it seems to me.

re: corporations - Well, looks like coporations as people will be with us for quite a while. I was kinda hopin' that the broad, legal (over)reach by corporations via the Supremes might have instigated a political backlash that would curb corporate power, but not in the near future, obviously. Thank you once again for fulfilling on a topic I've been curious about!

re: Gingrich - Fox commentator on Newt - arguing he's make a good leader because he talked women into being with him even though he's obviously a jerk. (and to top it, both the first and second wives had gotten a diagnosis of a possibly terminal disease just before he bugs out their marriages):

I want to be coldly analytical, not moralize, here. I want to tell you what Mr. Gingrich’s behavior could mean for the country, not for the future of his current marriage. So, here’s what one interested in making America stronger can reasonably conclude—psychologically—from Mr. Gingrich’s behavior during his three marriages.

Obama Interview

Last week, President Obama sat down for a 45-minute interview aimed at reassuring Israel that the U.S. would use military force as a last resort to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb. The Atlantic Monthly article included the widely quoted phrase “As president of the United States, I don’t bluff”, which is the strongest warning to date that military confrontation with Iran is definitely on the table.
As described last week, Obama’s horoscope indicates that military tension will tend to increase between now and April 5. The interview appeared as the transiting Sun and Mars opposed each other, underscoring the growing conflict. Mars is currently retrograding through Virgo and over the next few weeks will pick up stimulating aspects from Jupiter, Pluto, and most importantly, an opposition to Chiron on March 22.

March 22 looks like a critical date for several reasons. It brings the New Moon in Aries, which happens to conjoin erratic Uranus. Traditionally, the New Moon in Aries is the beginning of spring offensives in military theaters, and this becomes exceptionally likely with the inclusion of Uranus, the “Awakener”. Since Mars also opposes Chiron on this date, lashing out at enemies becomes an instinctive impulse.

Another dynamic is the activation of the U.S. progressed Sun, currently at 7º Pisces. The U.S. progressed Sun in this position is highly volatile due to its aspects to several natal placements (namely, the Scorpio Ascendant, Ceres, and Uranus). When transiting Mars and Chiron oppose each other at 7º Virgo/Pisces, they activate the U.S. progressed Sun. Watch for a series of rapid actions and reactions in Mideast affairs around this time.
Ohio: Anatomy of a Swing State

Once again, political strategists have recognized Ohio as a swing state, one of a handful of key states that a candidate must win in order to emerge victorious in the general election. In the GOP race, the election is too close to call, with Santorum and Romney in a statistical tie. Assuming Romney gets the nomination, he and Obama are also in a statistical tie.
Ohio entered the union on March 1, 1803 (Noon**; Chillicothe, OH), which is used as its birth date. The Sun-Pluto conjunction in dualistic Pisces is the first clue that this is a state that breeds powerful politicians. Since this Sun-Pluto aligns with the U.S. Ceres, it’s small wonder that Ohio’s nickname is “Mother of Presidents”. Seven presidents were born in Ohio, more than any other state except Virginia.

Ohio’s Sun forms an exact quincunx to Uranus, an uneasy dynamic that can spontaneously shift one way or the other. Factor in that the Moon and Mars are also in the sign of the Twins, and Jupiter is in indecisive Libra, and we have a state readily open to a variety of influences, including negative ads and outside money that attempts to persuade voters.
On the day of Ohio’s GOP primary (March 6), transiting Uranus is exactly opposite natal Jupiter. The electricity generated by this astro-event is sure to make Ohio a lead story in political tallies. The activation of Jupiter has also generated tremendous income as the SuperPACs pour millions into the various campaigns. Ohio’s swing state status will likely generate enormous sums by this November, since its progressed Sun is conjoining natal Jupiter. Keep your eye on Ohio!
Maria Menounos,
Something to Talk About

Of the twelve celebrities who will participate in season 14 of Dancing with the Stars, Extra co-host Maria Menounas has to be one of the favorites to take home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Although models traditionally don’t do well, Maria’s athletic ability, her drive to excel at everything she does, and that she has perennial champion Derek Hough as her professional partner all bode well.
Maria Menounas was born with her Sun in multi-talented Gemini (June 8, 1978; 1:26 am; Stoneham, MA), which forms a trine to Pluto in the 7th house of partners. This combination suggests that she does well when teamed with a skilled partner. Maria’s Moon in Cancer is in a close square to Pluto, giving her emotional depths that aren’t readily apparent in her role as a glitzy Hollywood correspondent.

Over the next two months, Maria’s Mercury comes under heavy pressure from several outer planets, suggesting that this partnership with Derek may be more of a mental challenge than a physical one. Her Mercury is part of an Air Grand Trine with Juno and Pluto, which gives her the gift of gab. Mercury also opposes Neptune, so that she gets involved in rumors, secrets, and innuendos.
Mercury is the ruler of her 7th house of partners, and she does have an ongoing significant other. But because Mercury opposes Neptune, we may see some boundary issues cropping up. Add to the mix that her progressed Sun is nearing her natal Venus, and Maria is going to be increasingly popular over the coming year. She’s sure to give us something to talk about.
