re: Gable-Young - Your analysis of Loretta Young's and Clark Gable's charts got me thinking about birth times, trends, etc. I seem to be part of a cohort of women who had their one and only child at 40, we being some of the women who came of age in the late 60s and early seventies. Any prominent aspects affecting my group over those time eras? We definitely all came through that time when women/girls no longer had the absolute expectation (either personal or society-imposed) to marry and have kids right after college, or to "settle down" in some woman-friendly career, like teaching. We were the first wave to live feminism/women's lib. So what happened with us, astrologically speaking?
A. The Pill happened, along with the radical Uranus-Pluto conjunction in the 1960s that opposed conventional Saturn. It's noteworthy that the four main asteroids were first introduced into horoscopes, making a kind of gender balance among deployed planets.
re: Minnesota - Thanks for your thoughtful defense in the matter of the Minnesota education system and "liberalism." Your weekly newsletter is always a treat. However this comment of yours hit one of my personal issues. We are all in this together. Any person's children and grandchildren deserve a quality education. In part because they will be taking care of the previous generations as we get older. But also because it is morally correct to provide opportunities for every human to find his/her unique gifts to share with the world.
re: Trump - Do you think Donald Trump has a chance? I think he touches a nerve in people. I think the political correctness has gone a little too far, we have all become a little mealy-mouthed.
re: Clark Gable - It is surprising how many male Hollywood stars have prominent Venus aspects. I wonder if the old label of "feminine planet" pertaining to Venus really has meaning. Now that male good looks, indeed beauty,
A. Actually, celebrities are said to be ruled by Venus. They attract attention, like Venus. We can see how well this works in Clark Gable's and Loretta Young's charts.
re: Loretta Young - Very good delineation..but one question remains for me unless I missed something. Who was in the role of Judy's father? Was Loretta married to someone else? Is there a physical resemblance to Clark? Is Judy still alive? By the way, I continue to be soooooo impressed by and with your skill at and capacity for, delineation!
A. Yes, the child is Clark Gable's. At one point, Loretta had her ears surgically altered because they stuck out so far, just like Clark's. Most everyone in Hollywood knew the truth. Loretta did get married to producer Tom Lewis in 1940, who took on the role of father, and they had two more sons. Loretta finally told her daughter in 1988 when Judy angrily confronted her, wanting to know the truth from her own mouth. Judy Lewis wrote a book, Uncommon Knowledge, about how it seemed she was the only one who didn't know her true parentage. She died in 2011.
re: Trump - You asked on your site "will Trump win,". According to my calculations, Trump's progressed Part of Fortune will be closely square natal Uranus in Gemini, which is Natally in his 10th house. I do not think so - but it is possible that this could indicate the the election of Trump could be a shock to everyone including him!!
A. Perhaps so. That would be a shock and disruptive to the political system. But like you, I doubt he will win. Historically, the only connections involved with tenth house indicators have been harmonious aspects, most commonly, the conjunction.
re: Sanger - Your writing on Margeret Sanger just makes her sound like such a lovely lady to do such wonderful things like paving the way for women and all... but really. DID her hatred for anything other than the white race get left out intentionally or are you just unaware?
I just love your astrological insight. But I swear you color it so much with your desire for the left to be all and win all. Maybe you just really dont realize it and see it ....I also am aware that there are not many Conservatives like myself who actually have a deep love or any understanding for astrology at all. You are obviously incredibly intelligent - or else you would not be able to comprehend the depths of Astrology the way you do.... but I have to say that intelligence stops when it comes to the loves of the left, communism, socialism, etc....
A. Actually, I am aware of her Nazi-like favoring of white supremacy. It's quite abhorrent. The problem is that I have only 250 to 300 words to get my astrological point across. I don't have the space to go into which of her policies were "good" and which were "bad". My aim was only to show how her birth control program was interconnected to today's politics via the Solar Eclipse.
re: U.S. economy - Isn't it a little ironic that the series of Uranus/Pluto squares is now over: ending in Spring 2015. Yet now, the economy starts to look shaky again with China's slowdown. Apparently 10 years of Federal Reserve intervention has its limits. It is almost like Uranus partially offset the Pluto opposition to the USA Sun but is no longer helping.
A. Uniquely in the U.S., Uranus has been a minor player in the Uranus-Pluto square. Most likely, the reason is because in the U.S. chart, the progressed Ascendant has been aligned with natal Pluto, emphasizing this factor. You can read about this in more detail at plutocracy.

A connection to the U.S. Moon used to be of the utmost importance. As a candidate, you have to connect with the people. You serve them. They vote for you. But now, it's all about power. A. No, you're doing something wrong. His Part of Fortune (progressed) is currently at 2 degrees Virgo. Do you have astrology calculation software? It'll be at 19 degrees Virgo in Nov 2016, which squares his 10th house Uranus. This describes a disruptive force more than an election win.
re: Syria - I always enjoy your weekly column. This week's piece on Syria was particularly of interest. When I changed the time (from Campion at 6 AM) to the Tyl time, I saw all you spoke about. Additionally I looked at the astrocartography map and the local space map. The latter shows the BML line going into the heart of Russia. This is particularly ominous...
re: Cubs - You wouldn't, by any chance, have a Chart for the Chicago Cubs Baseball Team? I can't seem to find any definitive date, except for 1870. I love to root for the Underdog.
re: Hillary - As a long term Hillary fan, I am delighted about her good showing in the recent Democratic debate. Those who dislike Hillary just love to drop those "hints of scandal" in an attempt to derail her campaign. The political pundits and the mainstream media are in for a revelation: Hillary is and has always been a great Presidential candidate!
re: mass murders - I think you have provided very convincing astrological details that confirm the Scorpio rising chart for the United States. It looks as though transiting Uranus will move out of orb to progressed Mars before too long. Do you think this will create a respite from mass murders such as the recent one in Oregon? I know there are other factors involved but taking Martian anger out of the set up looks positive for the future. Do you agree?
A. Yes, transiting Uranus will soon be out of range of activating the U.S. progressed Mars, but that definitely does not end the escalating trend of mass murders. Next come transiting Pluto, and also progressed Lilith will be joining progressed Mars in the U.S. 12th house. Progressed Lilith is just entering the U.S. 12th house now and will conjoin progressed Mars in January 2023, with both opposing progressed Chiron in the 6th house of health. This is an extremely dangerous set-up regarding violence as a health issue, and will be periodically activated by numerous outer planet transits between now and 2023.
re: guns - Given that the gun lobby is huge and powerful and that stupid amendment is, like, scripture to people, do you, also given this chart configuration, ever see anything ever being done to mitigate this stupidity? I refer you to Australia taking away everyone's guns after a particularly horrific mass killing. Since that nation-wide confiscation, no more mass killings. Imagine. Surprising how no guns can result in no killings.) I know that this is unlikely to happen to the Australian degree. But do you see gun enthusiasts giving an inch ever anywhere at all? Ever?
A. The Australian government didn't do a nation-wide confiscation of guns, but offered to buyback guns. The program was genius and inspirational, but would Americans follow suit? Unlikely any time soon, to my dismay.

Obama’s Mars Return
When the Commander in Chief has a Mars Return, the chart is worth investigating for its broad influence. About every twenty-two months, transiting Mars will make a conjunction with its natal position, which astrologers call the Mars Return. A horoscope for this moment can be used as a celestial guide for where the action will be over the coming two years.
Obama’s previous Mars Return is a great example of how powerful this chart can be. Set for November 23, 2013 (3:35 pm; Washington, DC), Mars in this chart is located in the 6th house of health and jobs. It’s unusually well placed here, especially by being exactly trine the Midheaven. During the last two years, Obamacare was implemented, and the unemployment rate dramatically dropped to 5.1%.
Obama’s current Mars Return just took place over the weekend (October 31, 2015; 11:23 am; Washington, DC), and shows what he – and the nation – can expect for the rest of his term. Mars in this chart is located in the 9th house of foreign affairs where it squares the Sagittarius Ascendant. As is typical during a Mars Return, Obama’s interests took a new direction. On Friday, the day before his Mars Return, he announced he was sending military equipment and a special ops team into Syria.
Mars in this chart conjoins Venus, indicating simultaneous peace negotiations with the new military thrust. Juno at the Libra Midheaven dovetails with the Venus symbolism, but like Venus (which squares the Ascendant), Juno is also under severe pressure by its opposition to Uranus in Aries. The Juno-Uranus opposition suggests that the peace talks will break down. This leaves Mars and its sharp square to the Ascendant as the major dynamic, which naturally suggests escalating military involvement during the remainder of Obama’s tenure.
Celebrity Mars Returns at 22º Virgo
In addition to Barack Obama, a surprising number of public personalities were born with Mars at 22º Virgo. It’s not a coincidence since the U.S. Neptune is located at this degree where it gains prominence by its network of close aspects -- most notably, a square to Mars at 21º Gemini. Those with Mars at 22º Virgo have a special way of taking action (Mars) that captures the American imagination (Neptune).
Matt Damon (profiled here three weeks ago) was born with his Mars at 22º Virgo, and he’s been in the news recently for his starring role in the blockbuster hit, The Martian. He’s inspiring an entire generation to work with NASA and other space adventurers just as he’s experiencing his Mars Return. Stevie Wonder was also born with Mars at 22º Virgo, and he just started a second leg of his world tour, “Songs in the Key of Life”, with a well received performance in Pittsburgh.
The Mars Return can be a powerful start in a new direction, accelerate an existing program, or mark the beginning of a frustrating, conflicted phase. How life unfolds over the coming two years can be seen in the Mars Return horoscope, with the house Mars tenants describing where the action will take place. Any planets near or aspecting the angles will be primary archetypes that shape the drama.
Consider the horoscope of Oracle CEO Larry Ellison (August 17, 1944; 5:50 am; Manhattan, NY), who has Mars at 22º Virgo. His Mars Return chart features Mars prominently placed in the 10th house of business and public attention. Mars is harmoniously sextile the Scorpio Ascendant so, unlike Obama’s Mars Return, his presentation comes easily and earns him much respect. He was in the news all last week for introducing Oracle’s new cloud-based products.
For a racehorse like American Pharoah, the Mars Return can be exceptionally telling since it covers most of his public career. His 2013 Mars Return featured Mars exactly square the Sagittarius Ascendant, which increased his competitive spirit. His current Mars Return shows Mars in the 12th house: on Saturday he ran his last race and he will now be earning extravagant fees at the stud farm. The Sun in this chart is located in the 2nd house of money where it trines the Midheaven.
Jay Leno’s Mars at 22º Virgo makes him a national favorite. His current Mars Return shows Mars located in the 6th house where it conjoins Venus and Jupiter, and trines Pluto at the Midheaven. His new show, “Jay Leno’s Garage”, just began this month under the aegis of his Mars return. The show takes a detailed look at his fabulous car collection and includes interviews with car designers. During his Mars Return over the weekend, he was promoting his take on the James Bond car, the Aston Martin DB10.
Orbs are important, and when considering natal planets in aspect to U.S. planets, one degree is the widest recommended orb, and of course, the tighter, the better. Britney Spears has Mars at 23º Virgo, but it’s within one degree of the U.S. Neptune, so she still manages to activate the public’s fantasies. Her most recent gig began one Mars cycle ago when she signed a two-year contract for her racy show, “Britney: Piece of Me“.
Her 2013 Mars Return chart featured Mars in the 3rd house of contracts. With Jupiter on the Cancer Ascendant, Britney found a new opportunity to take up residency in Las Vegas. The Sun in the 5th house of entertainment trines Uranus at the Midheaven, and her show became a phenomenal success. Her current Mars Return chart features Mars trine Pluto at the Ascendant, an empowering combination. She just signed up for her second two-year stint with a major pay raise. Also, TMZ just dubbed her “the reigning queen of Las Vegas.”
