"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: Michelle Obama - I was wondering about M Obama's ASC recently. Sag fits lookswise. And I like her fashion sense: it's bold but elegant and it shows a woman who is not afraid. I haven't cast their composite with your rectified time for her. But I have wondered about their composite as well. They have a lot of presence individually but as a couple they just dominate the scene. Everyone, the Queen of UK, the French PM and his very lovely wife fade before them.

re: Michelle Obama - Thanks for the rectified chart for Michelle Obama.  I especially like Jupiter in Aries as her ruling planet--the pioneer theme is clear in her life.  She's an attorney, an African-American, and the first lady.  Pioneering is a major theme in her life.

re: Part of Misfortune - Okay, please say more about the Part of Misfortune.  I don't remember ever hearing the Part of Fortune called that. Your quote: Transiting Neptune conjunct the USSS Part of Misfortune shows an unmitigated scandal.

A. The Part of Misfortune is the same as the Part of Fortune except that it's badly placed or aspected. I first came across this term in Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson's book Simplified Horary Astrology. She writes that "The Part of Fortune becomes the Part of Mis-fortune when afflicted by being in the unfortunate 12th or 8th house or in the 12th sign Pisces or the 8th sign Scorpio". She goes on to refine the definition so that when the Part of Fortune is badly aspecting Mars, Neptune or in the 29th degree of any sign, or the same degree as the nodes, it becomes the Part of Misfortune. Presumably, one could add hard aspects from Pluto.

re: Ann Romney - I liked your chart for Ann Romney.  I know it's your rectification but it seems correct.  It also looks like the chart of someone whose husband is a winner in November. But we don't have a timed chart, that I know of, for Michelle Obama.  Have you got a timed or rectified chart for her?  If so, could you post it?

re: Bobby Petrino - It would be interesting to those of us who are College Football Fans to know the "astrology" surrounding the recent firing of Coach Bobby Petrino, the football coach at the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS. Coach Petrino has had a "history" of deceit, and "baring false witness".  Although as a football coach, he's definitely a "winner". I believe it might make a good and interesting astrological piece for NewsScope as there's an interesting mixture of "human" failures and success all present in this one person.

re: Sumatra earthquake - Well, you called it.  You said in your Cascadia earthquake article that the April 6th Full Moon was a trigger date, and now we have Indonesia.  Does one consider Indonesia in the 'ring of fire?'

A. Absolutely!

re:  Obamacare - You wrote: "[Kennedy's] most famous reversal took place on June 29, 1992, when he changed his mind and sided with those supporting Roe v. Wade." Since Roe v. Wade was decided in January of 1973, I don't understand the reference to June 29, 1992.

A. Pennsylvania passed a law called Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act that was being challenged as unconstitutional based on Roe v. Wade. For details, see wikipedia/Planned_Parenthood_v._Casey

Justice Kennedy voted to uphold Roe v. Wade in a 5-4 decision, made public on June 29, 1992. Had he voted the other way, as he initially intended, Roe v. Wade would have been struck down.

Romney Blames Obama for Jobs Report

Last Friday’s jobs report was the second month in a row of disappointing numbers, suggesting a trend rather than a random spike downwards. The 115,000 jobs added in April coincided with a downtick in the national unemployment rate to 8.1%, but only because 342,000 people left the labor force. And for those who are working, their paychecks aren’t keeping up with inflation.

Astrologically, this development comes under the “bad news” heading which manifested under Saturn’s square to the U.S. Mercury (as forecasted in #4 of May’s Astro-Events). Mercury – the planet associated with news, reports, and opinions – is under pressure from the grim taskmaster Saturn. As the gloomy labor report weighed down the financial markets, the Moon had conjoined Saturn in Libra, activating the underlying dynamic with the U.S. Mercury.
Mitt Romney was quick to blame President Obama only minutes after the labor report was aired. Romney’s progressed Sun at 25º Taurus is well positioned to take advantage of a weak economy in 2012, since it is closely aligned with the U.S. Moon. This connection allows him to represent an alternative economic plan (Sun in Taurus) to the American people (U.S. Moon). This is especially true over the coming month as transiting Jupiter conjoins his progressed Sun.
For Romney, the downside comes later in the campaign season when transiting Neptune squares his Gemini Ascendant. Obama’s chart is likewise showing strong plusses and minuses, suggesting a tight race. And with the Uranus-Pluto square playing out in the background, one might expect highly volatile numbers in the tracking polls as the economy plays havoc on voters’ minds. Add in that Mercury is turning retrograde on Election Day, and we may even get a 269-269 electoral tie.
This tri-wheel segment of Romney's chart shows his natal horoscope on the inner wheel, with the progressions and transits on the middle and outer wheels.
Michelle Obama: Ceres Rising

With an impressive 71 percent approval rating among American voters, Michelle Obama has become the president’s best political asset during this election season. Astrologers have been stymied in their efforts to track and make projections about the FLOTUS, since no reliable birth time has been reported for her. However, a rectified time of 3:22 am (January 17, 1964; Chicago) works well.
This chart features Sagittarius Rising with Ceres, the caretaking asteroid, near her Ascendant. Ceres is much enhanced by a tight trine to Jupiter, the ruler of her chart, but under developmental pressure from squares to the generational Uranus-Pluto conjunction. Her various roles as a mother, organic food gardener, advocate for homeless shelters, and her campaign against childhood obesity all reflect this prominent Ceres.

Ms. Obama’s Moon at 25º Aquarius is exactly conjunct the U.S. Moon, which she has expressed as being able to fulfill the American Dream. She married Barack on October 3, 1992 when her progressed Sun, Mars, and Saturn were all conjoined at 25º Aquarius. Also, she had a progressed Juno-Pallas conjunction on her Ascendant, indicating a marriage (Juno) with a politician (Pallas). When Barack was elected on November 4, 2008, transiting Saturn was conjunct her Midheaven.
Since she entered the White House, much has been made of Michelle’s fashion sense. With Venus squaring her Ascendant natally, Michelle works hard to look relaxed and elegant. And with Mars sextile her Ascendant, she’s not afraid to assert herself, both politically and stylistically. Transiting Neptune is conjoining her Venus and squaring her Ascendant throughout 2012. From this, we can expect the fashionistas to be in full critique mode, while fans and pundits speculate about her own presidential campaign down the road.
Joss Whedon and The Avengers

The blockbuster hit “The Avengers” is being widely praised by the critics, largely due to the skill of
Whedon has a special knack for creating strong female characters, with the karate-kicking cheerleader Buffy only one of many amazing heroines that populate his scripts. Cancer men often have a strong connection to their mothers, and Whedon’s Cancer Sun is doubly influenced by the mother image since it also opposes Ceres. The Moon in adventurous Sagittarius adds some free-spirited boldness and daring to his female leads.

The natal Mars-Saturn square plays out in Whedon’s fictionalized universes as action-packed confrontations between good and evil. Saturn is, after all, in spiritual Pisces. “The Avengers” is by far Whedon’s biggest project to date, a fortunate turn in his life shown by his progressed Venus conjunct his Sun. Now that transiting Neptune is conjoining his natal Saturn and trining his Sun, he is riding high in the fantasy realm of comic book realities.
writer-director Joss Whedon. Leonard Malton notes that “it’s the writing that sets this film apart from the crowd, in harmony with perfect casting [and] first-rate visual effects.” Best known for his TV hit “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, Whedon is a prolific writer who enjoys cult status.

Joss Whedon was born with his Cancer Sun trine Saturn in Pisces (June 23, 1964; New York, NY; time unknown), a combination that indicates a strong family background and steady professional progress. With Mercury, Venus and Mars in witty Gemini, Whedon has become known as the world’s first third-generation TV writer -- his father wrote for the 1980s sitcom “Golden Girls”, and his grandfather wrote for the “Donna Reed Show” in the 1950s.
