re: Snowden relocated - Such a nice, clear statement. I've gone on and on trying to share the same point. I began relocating charts in 1970 before I'd seen an ACG map. They are very useful, especially when doing mundane work, but for the refinement, nothing beats a horoscope.
re: Tornado Alley and ACG maps- Your reasoning about tornados in the U.S. may be correct, but you have an obvious technical error. Or at the very least, your wording misrepresents what an AstroCartoGraphy map is. You say, "[W]hen relocating the U.S. chart to Moore, Oklahoma, Mercury is right on the Midheaven and Pluto is three degrees from the 4th house cusp, the IC." What's wrong is that relocating the chart is irrelevant because relocating the chart does not change the AstroCartoGraphy map in the slightest. An ACG map represents where you would have to relocate to get certain celestial bodies on the angles. You don't have to relocate the original chart to see that.
re: royal baby - Thanks for your very interesting Newscope articles -- I always like your topics. I hope someone will be interested in doing the Royal baby's chart---I didn't think it would quite be a Leo - it isn't, right?
A. If George were born 32 minutes later, he would be a Leo. Many astrologers have written good profiles on the young prince, so I'll pass on this story. But I hope you enjoy the Royal Succession angle.
re: economic collapse - Of late there are increasing numbers of astrology posts and websites warning of a financial collapse that will soon affect the entire world—not just the US. Many write this collapse will really “kick-in “beginning later this year” and are reporting the financial signs are overwhelmingly obvious now. My question to you is have you looked into this from an astrological standpoint?
A. No, I don't believe financial collapse will be kicking in later this year, especially in the U.S. While the Uranus-Pluto square is certainly cause for concern, in the U.S. chart transiting Saturn and Pluto are harmoniously related to the Scorpio Ascendant, which strengthens America's corporatocracy. Corporations are holding record amounts of cash and reporting strong earnings. Plus, with transiting Jupiter conjoining the U.S. Sun through April 2014, it won't be until after then that any real pullback kicks in, at least in the U.S.
re: economic collapse, cont. - Your response cheered me up considerably because there is a LOT of doom and gloom about an economic collapse later this year. Your info might cheer a LOT of other people as well, and perhaps drive more people to your site because you will be reporting different information than the doom & gloom prognosticators are providing.
A. Unless an astrologer uses the Scorpio Rising national horoscope, the strengthening of the U.S. corporatocracy isn't apparent.
re: Gold - Thanks so much for your gold horoscope, but I wish you had created it much sooner. However, I feel that gold and silver have bottomed and in August should really begin the blow-off, final third phase of its bull market which should propel the price/value of gold to over $5,000/oz. and silver near $200/oz. as global financial/economic conditions and debasement of currencies scare the hell out of discerning people!
re: Zimmerman - Love your weekly NewsScope. Have you looked at George Zimmerman's birth chart and current transits? That would make a very interesting article with your interpretations (Saturn return, Pluto squaring natal Sun, etc) Thanks.
A. Many readers asked about Zimmerman's horoscope as well as Trayvon Martin's. I looked at both their charts just after the incident took place. They both have volatile, danger-seeking Mars-Uranus aspects. You can see their charts and read the article here: April 9, 2012

re: Gold - I just read your piece on Nixon's August 15, 1971 speech taking the U.S. off the gold standard. The time he supposedly started the speech was 9 PM in Washington, DC. I figured that he took around ten to fifteen minutes to get to the part on the gold standard. Using 9:15 PM, I have a chart with Pisces rising and Sagittarius MC. One of my considerations for using the public speech instead of the private signing of the executive order is that gold is a public commodity whose price everyone can know, therefore a public speech makes more sense to me.
A. I'm considering the time he signed the executive order, which was before the TV appearance, and records indicate "in the evening". I guess the proof of the pudding is when you an use one of these charts to profit from buying and selling gold stocks or futures.... I did notice a preponderance of planets in the 9 degree area at key turning points, tops and bottoms, which is why I placed 9 Scorpio at the MC, and Ceres at the Descendant. Another option is 6:14 pm which makes the Ascendant the same as Nixon's Capricorn Sun.

re: Monsanto - I just got the latest Mountain Astrologer (Aug/Sept 2013), and read the article on Monsanto. They use a birth date for Monsanto Chemical Works of November 29, 1901; 12:00 PM CST (rectified); Jefferson City, MO. Date from company public relations book, Faith, Hope and $5,000. You used a date of November 30, 1901. The early date puts the Moon at 27 deg. 49 min. Cancer, while yours puts the Moon at 11 deg. 40 min. Leo. Can you tell me what the source of your date is?
A. If you do a google search using the terms "Monsanto November 1901" you'll get a list of sites that show both dates. My understanding was that Monsanto filed the papers on the 29th and was incorporated the next day, the 30th. However, I see now that the 30th was a Saturday, so most likely the 29th is the correct date.

re: USA Moon - Do you consider the Moon in the USA chart to be Void of Course? I hadn't noticed this until I read this blog where the writer uses the Sibly chart, but the same would be true (by most traditional rules) in the Scorpio chart, too.
A. This is a common argument to justify using some other date for the national horoscope. No, I don't consider the Moon to be void of course, and for several reasons: 1) the v/c rule is meant to be applied to horary charts, not geopolitical or national horoscopes. 2) So using traditional aspects, the Moon is trine Mars. Using the so-called minor aspects, the Moon is also quincunx Mercury and Neptune, and these connections form a Yod. When considering the 8th harmonic aspects, the Moon is also part of a Fist of God formation, meaning its trioctile (sesquiquadrate or 135 degree aspect) both the Sun and Saturn. This is a very dynamic formation, and can be said to dominate the chart. 3) When considering the main four asteroids, the Moon is trine Juno, square Vesta, and applying to a conjunction with Pallas in Aquarius, a very powerful connection that reinforces democratic principles. And the Moon is sextile Chiron. So you see it has a network of aspects around the chart, including being the focal point of two major configurations.
re: Newcomers - I want to thank you for your "Newcomers" page. I've been introducing some friends to astrology and this page will be very helpful to them. I'm pleased, too, that my library includes several of the recommended books. I may pick them up and re-read them as a good review!

A. Yes, her Neptune is at 10 degrees Libra and being squared by transiting Pluto. Neptune, the planet associated with scandal, is being activated by the UR-PL square, which has led to so many breakdowns and in so many diverse ways.
re: Federer - What happened to Feddy ( Roger Federer) at Wimbledon? That beautiful soul was DESTROYED and as I watched him fumble, and miss "easy for him" shots a little bit of me also lost confidence and buoyancy. Does his loss mean he's finished? Kudos tho' to his young opponent Stakhovsky who played well. But is this on-going?
A. A number of icons have recently collapsed due to the Uranus-Pluto square. Consider Paula Deen and the price of gold as other examples. As for Federer, looks like it's also a clear case of Mercury turning retrograde. You'll notice that he wasn't the only top seed to lose to a much lower seed. Merc was (still is) squaring Federer's Pluto, making him second-guess everything, a mental disorder. The wet grounds may have shook him and other favorites. Also transiting Saturn is squaring Fed's progressed Mars which no doubt throws his timing off, and can be very frustrating. He'll get over it...

Snowden Relocated
What’s the advantage of using relocated charts over ACG maps? In my view, the ACG map is a blunt instrument since it only shows the planets that are angular over any particular region. The relocated chart shows the same angular planets, but also planets that are aspecting the angles. Then, transits and progressions to the angles can be used to track developments and make forecasts.
Case in point: Edward Snowden’s chart relocated to Moscow places Mars near the Midheaven where it squares the Virgo Ascendant. With Mars conjunct his North Node and Sun in the tenth house of public standing, Snowden attains much notoriety and is a constant irritant to some, while being called a hero by others. Much uncertainty about his status in Moscow is natural, since Mars opposes Neptune in the 4th house of residency.
However, his Mars is supported by trines to Ceres in the 6th house of work, and a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in the 2nd house of money. Virgo Rising puts the emphasis on his work opportunities, and as soon as he was granted temporary asylum, the job offers came pouring in. The most widely reported offer was as a data security programmer for VKontakte, the Russian social network similar to Facebook.
Snowden arrived in Moscow on June 23, 2013, precisely as his progressed Moon was entering his relocated 4th house. Currently, his relocated progressed Ascendant is at 12º Libra, which is a critical degree since it’s being activated by the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square. Last week when he was granted asylum, transiting Mars and Uranus squared each other while aligning with his progressed Ascendant. With his progressed Mars at 14º Cancer, we can see that he’s going to continue to be an international flashpoint for at least two more years.
Facebook’s Turn-Around
Last Friday Facebook’s stock price hit $38/share, the first time it’s been at this level since its disastrous IPO. As described here two weeks ago, the technology industry as a whole is in the midst of revolutionary changes and is most notably characterized by the shift from desktop computers to mobile devices. Now it’s clear that Facebook is successfully navigating the transition.
Facebook’s First Trade chart (May 18, 2012; 11:30 am; New York, NY) shows its problematic beginning with Venus retrograde, and the Taurus Sun square illusory Neptune. But this chart also features a powerful Earth Grand Trine involving Vesta at the Midheaven supported by Mars and Pluto. In fact, with seven placements in Taurus (including a Mercury-Lilith conjunction), FB is nothing if not practical.
A year ago FB generated only 14% of its revenue from mobile advertising. More recently, when FB reported its earnings on July 24, it noted that 41% of its revenue now comes from mobile ads. A transiting Mars-Jupiter-Lilith triple conjunction in Cancer was squaring FB’s Uranus at the time, bringing this stunning and pleasantly surprising news to FB investors. Since the earnings announcement, FB shares have surged 50% in value.
Those who bought FB the day before its recent earnings announcement would now be sitting on a 50% gain in their investment. Financial astrologers have a special technique for deciding whether the unpredictable Uranus hit would be good news or bad news: tertiary progressions. As it turned out, FB’s tertiary progressed Jupiter was exactly (to-the-minute) conjunct the natal Sun on July 24. This rare and fortuitous astro-event promised unbridled optimism for FB’s future revenue.
Simon Cowell’s Ceres-Lilith Polarity
What makes professional talent judge Simon Cowell (October 7, 1959; Brighton, UK; time unknown) so mean? Astrologers have described at length the planetary placements that account for his acerbic assessments. The Venus-Pluto conjunction in critical Virgo is certainly a factor, especially since it’s harshly energized by an octile (45º) from his Mars. And then his Mercury-Saturn square is a natural faultfinder, while the Sagittarius Moon can be unusually blunt.
Looking beyond the traditional planets, we see that Ceres – the asteroid associated with coaching and nurturing talent – squares the Venus-Pluto conjunction and is also octile Mars, creating a dynamic four-planet configuration. In Cowell’s chart, criticism and nurturing go hand-in-hand, and with Mars’s involvement, not always in the kindest fashion. Ceres is accented in another way, and that’s by an exact opposition to Black Moon Lilith.
The Ceres-Lilith polarity is the tightest aspect in Cowell’s chart, and therefore the key dynamic in what makes him tick. If Ceres represents the life-coach side of Simon Cowell, then the opposition to Lilith suggests a hidden agenda, or the temptation of deception, secret affairs, and divided loyalties. The square to Venus-Pluto adds sexual intrigue and major trust issues in his personal relationships.
Last week the news broke that Cowell is expecting his first child in February 2014. The mother is socialite Lauren Silverman, the soon-to-be ex-wife of Cowell’s friend, real estate mogul Andrew Silverman. While commentators applaud Cowell’s ability to generate synthetic controversy to boost his show’s ratings*, this fatherhood development has genuine astrological correlations: he’s currently experiencing a progressed New Moon right on his Ceres. This rare alignment will change his life, perhaps making him a more empathetic person.
