re: Tim Cooks' birth time - I wonder why in the US nobody has raised the question that the law does not allow access to birth certificate records, how is it possible? Here in Italy it is not so. Which privacy is there to protect? One has the right to know when someone is born or not??? The scientists should be in favour of the publicity of birth times, so they can continue to debunk the astrologers!!! Or, keeping concealed birth times is a way to impede the general public in knowing many things regarding public figures, politicians etc. This is against the right to know!
You american astrologers should start a campaign for this, in my opinion!

Inauguration - I've always read about how if the President is sworn in during a moon void of course that he will have trouble being effective during his term, and that this was the case for Obama last term. I have just read that he was privately sworn in at 11:55am EST, just *before* the moon void! Any thoughts for your column? As a Dem, I'm thrilled to see this, and hope this will empower the Prez to route those untoward Republicans, who just sit on their hands, seemingly out of spite or racism or craziness.

A. The Inauguration chart, set for noon, was posted and described in NewsScope's December 31, 2012 issue. The Moon makes one final square to Mars before going void of course, which does in deed push Obama into action.
re: Salopek - I enjoyed reading about Paul Salopek, mostly because my best friend's birthday is also Feb 9, 1962. She's one of the Aqua-stells as well. Her stellium falls in her 4th house though so she's all about her family, and her challenges lately have been about teenagers!
A. That week in February 1962 has some notoriety, since psychic Jeanne Dixon predicted that the "anti-Christ" would be born during the New Moon on February 4, 1962. Later, she changed her mind and said it would be the second coming of Jesus. Sheryl Crowe was born on February 11, 1962, Jennifer Jason Leigh was born on febraury 5, 1962, and King Abdullah II of Jordan was born on January 30, 1962.
re: Hillary Clinton - Do you see anything in hillary clinton's chart as a sign of her current health problems?
A. Yes, she's going through a handful of challenging Saturn transits and progressions: transiting Saturn has been conjunct her Sun, progressed Mercury to Saturn, progressed Moon to Saturn, and more. These are indications that she needs a rest. The unexpected accident happened as her progressed Midheaven was exactly trioctile Uranus -- exhaustion and over-work allow these mishaps into our lives.
re: 2013 - I'm wondering if anyone will be writing about Supermoons for 2013, or anything else that points to dates to be aware of.
re: economy - Will you please do year 2013 and its overall effects in our lives, finances as we the people depend on the whims of congress which has NO idea what they want to do. As a senior citizen, i respect your work and read it every week and would like to read about this if it is possible.
re: rightwingers - I enjoy your NewsScope segment. I find it very interesting that two of the highest profile uncompromising right wingers share this energy. Eric Cantor has a Sun opposition Moon both square Pluto. (The NRA's Wayne) LaPierre has Moon opposed Pluto both Square the Sun. These two will never look for common ground.
re: Inauguation date - January 20 is a Sunday, so they'll be doing the oath on Monday, January 21.
A. The official private ceremony is on the 20th, a Sunday. A public ceremony will be held the following day, the 21st, as happened during Reagan's inauguration.

re: Adam Lanza - I enjoyed your Newscope on Adam Lanza and the connections between his chart and that of the U.S. One has to wonder, however, why Newtown, CT? Have you had a chance to look at important dates for this town?
Here's the link for Newtown's city charter which shows its founding date and dates that its charter was adopted and revised. The city was founded on October 11, 1711 which gives it a Sun of 17º Libra which would complete a T-square in Adam's chart by opposing his Venus and squaring his Uranus-Neptune conjunction. The U.S. progressed Mars at 18º Libra is conjunct Newtown's Sun.The first city charter for Newtown was adopted on October 2, 1961 (chart for noon). Its Mars-Mercury conjunction in Scorpio creates a Grand Square with Adam's Sun/Ceres/Chiron T-Square. A. He could have. I noticed that transiting Mars was squaring his Sun on the night of the murder, which is an indicator for anger and even violence. But without an accurate birth time, I won't make that judgment. The Belize government provides a safe harbor for narco-traffickers, so he very well could be right about them wanting his millions...
re: 8º Sagittarius - Thank you for your weekly Newscope. It is accurate, thought provoking, informative and thoroughly enjoyable.
I am part of an Astrology discussion group and we have been noticing the prominence of 8 degrees of Sag in several charts. The Winter Solstice chart has a Yod whose reaction point is 8 Sag in the 2nd house of the US chart. We read that degree, which, I think, is the Fixed star Han, as the degree of blindness. It seems the US is blind to 2nd house matters, such as values and money. Do you have any opinion on this subject? I value your insight.
A. Thanks for your letter, and I'm glad you find the Scorpio Rising chart a useful way to examine U.S. affairs. Yes, I've been discussing the Yod between Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto which aligns with 8º Sag. The Yod activates the many points in the US chart at 8º of their respective signs, including the Ascendant, Uranus, Ceres, and Eris.
As for the stars, I generally consider only those with a 1st magnitude brilliance, and I believe most astrologers who use the stars do as well. Han is therefore a weak influence, especially considering that Aldebaran and Antares are in the same degree area and are both 1st magnitude stars. Also, I would advise against making broad generalizations about the US being blind to values and money matters, which sound more like your personal opinion than an insightful analysis based on astrological principles. In other words, when you refer to the US, who are you really talking about, the leaders (symbolized by the Sun), the people (Moon), or maybe the government bureaucracy (Saturn)? What objective statements can you make about the Solstice chart? What does it say about our future in 2013 or the next quarter? Dow Hits 14,000
On October 9, 2007 the Dow (DJIA) hit its all-time high of 14,164 before falling precipitously over the next 18 months. Last Friday the Dow ended above the psychologically important 14,000 level for the first time since the financial meltdown. Does this mean that the markets have become over-heated and we’re due for a correction, or is it a sign of economic health?
Most recently, the financial institutions have been fortified by a Saturn-Pluto sextile. While many astrologers wouldn’t consider this combination to be spectacularly bullish, it gains in influence because these two planets are in mutual reception: Saturn is in Pluto’s sign and Pluto is in Saturn’s sign. And most importantly, Saturn conjoins the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, where it brings steady progress to corporate America.
The widespread sense of optimism sparked by the Dow hitting 14,000 took place on the day that Jupiter turned direct. Jupiter turning direct signals renewed optimism, especially since it’s also forming a close sextile to Uranus, which adds an element of excitement. It’s worth noting that when the Dow hit its all-time high back in October 2007, this same sense of exhilaration was present, marked by an exact square between Jupiter and Uranus.
This time, however, Saturn’s presence near the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant brings a more cautious approach. Saturn turns retrograde on February 18, when the markets’ upward momentum will likely stall or reverse. In March Uranus is advancing toward a quincunx (150º) to the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant and then the next square to Pluto. Both of these connections will further empower political extremists in Washington, potentially leading to a government shutdown by May. At the very least, we can expect a dramatic increase in market volatility during Saturn’s four-month retrograde phase.
Immigration Reform
In the 2012 election, Obama captured 71% of the Latino vote, due in large part to Republicans’ stiff opposition to immigration reform. Now some Republicans are realizing that shifting demographics will continue to elect Democrats unless the GOP becomes friendlier with Hispanics. Last week, John McCain appeared with a bipartisan group of eight senators to announce that they have a new immigration plan.
Naturally, Saturn – the planet that forces us to deal with the harsh realities of life – is behind the GOP’s sudden conversion. The Ascendant symbolizes the national identity, and although the 11 million undocumented immigrants are not part of this identity, they contribute to the economy. Transiting Saturn’s first passage across the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant in December 2012 brought some Republicans around to accept a re-definition of who exactly is an American.
Saturn has two more conjunctions to the U.S. Ascendant in 2013, which suggests a timeframe to complete this task. However, transiting Uranus’s aspects to transiting Saturn and the U.S. Ascendant will make the process difficult. But the times change, as Ronald Reagan knew when he signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, the last major immigration bill to get through Congress.
Reagan signed that bill on November 6, 1986 when transiting Pluto was in Scorpio where it conjoined the U.S. Ascendant. It took 18 months for the bill to be introduced, debated, and finally passed, which coincided with Pluto’s dancing back and forth across the U.S. Ascendant. Mercury was retrograde when Reagan signed the bill, indicating that it had the unintended consequences of creating more illegal residents rather than less. Saturn’s role as the adjuster, the cosmic chiropractor, is now in play.
Kevin Spacey Stars in House of Cards
The hottest new television show isn’t on network or cable TV. House of Cards reveals the entertaining but seamy underside of Washington politics, and stars veteran actor Kevin Spacey as a congressman who seems saintly but plays the devil. It’s only available at Netflix, which invested $100 million to produce the show, and released the 13-episode series last Friday.
Kevin Spacey was born with his Sun in the dramatic, fiery sign of Leo (July 26, 1959; South Orange, NJ; time unknown) where it forms challenging aspects to Saturn and Neptune. Saturn’s influence gives Spacey’s character the leadership qualities we expect from our politicians, while Neptune’s square adds charisma but also deception. Spacey’s various cinematic roles have often contrasted the apparent responsibility and normalcy of Saturn with the delusions and chameleon-like qualities of Neptune.
Pallas, the asteroid associated with political strategy, is a key factor in Spacey’s current project with Netflix. Natally, he has Pallas in diplomatic, charming Libra where it sextiles a quick-witted Mercury-Uranus conjunction – a great configuration for
playing a clever politician. Pallas is also octile (45º) his Mars-Pluto conjunction, showing a more ruthless side, so that together, these aspects describe a two-faced schemer. We like him, but realize he’s bad.
He was assigned the lead role on March 18, 2011 when transiting Pallas was exactly opposite his Leo Sun. Also, transiting Mars was in Pisces where it formed a fateful Yod with his Pallas-Mercury. Currently, Spacey’s progressed Pallas is at 7º Scorpio, where it conjoins the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant and is being activated by transiting Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. In this configuration we can see how Spacey masterfully projects America’s tarnished political image for viewers’ entertainment.
