re: Iran - I heard from very reliable sources that plans are on the way to attack Iran and possibly just before the election for Obama to win. Any insights on wether this would be possible for Israel and the USA to attack Iran at this time?
A. Yes, this week's Top Five Astro-Events mentions just such a conflict, although without the conspiratorial overtone... Plus, the U.S. progressed Moon-Mars conjunction is shaping up, and could very welll be an indicator for war. Since it takes place in the 12th house, a proxy war like having Israel do the work is a real possibility.

re: Romney - I've read many times that a candidate must have a connection with the US Moon at 25 degrees Aquarius in order to be elected. I see that Obama has 3 planets/asteroids at 25 degrees of their respective signs, but I'm not seeing anything in Romney's natal chart. Am I missing something? Progressions, maybe?
A. Thanks for asking. Looks like the link to the Romney page was broken, but it's fixed now. Yes, several progressions, especially his Sun. From NeptuneCafe's Romney page: "On Election Day – November 6, 2012 – Romney’s progressed Sun will be only 0º03’ from squaring the U.S. Moon. This gives him a clear emotional connection with the American people, making him a potential winner."
Re: Biden - I wondered, just to have all sides of the matter inspected, whether or not Joe Biden's horoscope was also favorably (or unfavorably) aspected to be the next VP (re) elect. You've done Obama, and Romney, and now Ryan. I know that you have done Joe Biden's horoscope in the past, but you haven't covered it up through this coming election. He's the last one of the key players needing to be looked at for the next three months.
re: the candidates' solar returns - Have you compared Romney's and Obama's Solar Return Charts for 2012? Wouldn't this give a more accurate prediction for who will win the election than their transits on Inauguration day?
A. I don't think the technique of using Solar Returns has evolved to the point where it provides accurate, reliable information. The problem is that there is no agreement among astrologers about which location to use, whether that should be the birth place, current residence, or wherever one happens to be at the time of the return. Some astrologers also consider precession, which leaves six possible solar return charts to intepret. I may have what I think is a reliable technique, but it will only convince those who use the same technique. I recommend reading Lee Lehman's new book Classical Solar Returns for a critical look at the confusing mess the astrological community is in regarding the use of solar returns. This is why I rely on transits and secondary progressions since we have near unanimous agreement on the validity of these techniques.
re: Aurua shooting - Your piece on the USA horoscope and the Aurora massacre was excellent. Very smart. And yet another--as if we really need more--reason for adopting the Scorpio-rising chart for the US.... One other bit of news is about the Toronto mall shooting survivor--it happened in early June of this year--Jessica Ghawi was killed in Aurora. How bizarre. Of course, it's just a "coincidence." Yeah, right. I wonder what her horoscope looks like.

re: commodity prices - I read your posts on Newscope every Monday and follow this blog on a regular basis. You mentioned that sun and ceres conjunction in the coming year. Can I ask you when it will be exact???
A. The U.S. progressed Sun will be conjunct natal Ceres on August 7, 2013, so this connection gets stronger between now and then. The influence of this challenging connection to Ceres doesn't wane though, because the progressed Sun goes on to square Uranus, becoming exact on October 29, 2013. The price of corn, wheat, soybeans and other agricultural products may continue to rise even after that, sijnce transiting Neptune conjoins the U.S. Ceres beginning in 2015. Global warming is upon us, and the progressions and transits reflect the stress on the agricultural industry.
re: Condi Rice - How does Condi's chart look around the Inauguration? Thanks, as always, for your deep, fascinating work.
A. Her chart actually looks very good on Jan 20, 2013. The transiting North Node is right on her Midheaven, her progressed Mars is exactly trine her 6th house Uranus, her progressed Midheaven is sextile her Venus, transiting Uranus is precisely sextile her Ascendant. These measurements suggest a new start, a tremendous career boost. If she's not the VP choice, I suspect she'll at least get a key cabinet post.
re: inauguration date - In my studies of the Inauguration 2013 horoscope I've been using January 21 since January 20 falls on a Sunday (as was Reagan's 2nd Inauguration) so am wondering if the official 'noon' time Jan 20 is what should be used for the horoscope or the actual date the Oath of Office will be taken on Monday? Thanks for all your excellent work and for your book--I link to and cite your website and articles whenever I can!
A. Have a look at each candidate’s chart for January 20, 2013 (noon; Washington DC), which is the official time and date mandated by the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution when the president’s term begins. In 2013, January 20 happens to fall on a Sunday, and is the date and time used here. The Oath of Office will be given before noon on January 20. Then, the public ceremony will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013.

Romney’s Victory and the Fiscal Cliff
A reader comments, “Much as I dislike the prospect, I do see it coming. But he's not the only one up for election: What do you see in Congress? Will the Republicans get both houses, or the Democrats, or split?” According to the polls, the Democrats might gain a few seats in the House, while the Senate remains close to the 50-50 balance point.
The nature of the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square tends to polarize politicians into their extremist positions. Considering that neither party will gain a large enough majority to get anything done, we can expect Congress to remain gridlocked for years to come.
Chiron in this configuration conjoins the U.S. Ascendant at 8º Scorpio, which will be activated right around the Winter Solstice, the fateful conclusion of the Mayan calendar.
In the mainstream news media, that time period – the end of December 2012 – is known as the Fiscal Cliff*. Transiting Saturn will first conjoin Romney’s Chiron (setting off his T-square) and the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant on December 21, 2012. He will likely be fully engaged at that point, attempting to resolve the crisis as the president-elect. However, Saturn turns retrograde in February 2013, and makes two more passes over this critical 8º Scorpio, indicating a lengthy negotiation process. In late December Congress will likely kick the can further down the road, leading the U.S. into recession in the coming year.
Looking at Romney’s chart, his elevated Venus at 8º Aquarius describes his attention to economic systems of thinking. Its opposition to Pluto and square to Chiron forms a dynamic T-square which resolves itself through financial makeovers and transformations.
September’s Top Five Astro-Events
1. Mars is in Scorpio all month while making numerous challenging aspects, most notably, from the 1st-5th, 16th-20th, and 23rd -27th. Each of these three phases is extremely volatile and explosive, both personally and geopolitically. Watch out for individuals on the edge and avoid all potentially violent situations. Intense arguments, hostile confrontations, and impulsively aggressive acts are to be expected.
2. Saturn squares the U.S. Pluto on the 13th but is a major influence all month. The simultaneous martial influences indicate the Pentagon may be forced into action at one of the world’s hotspots, probably Syria or Iran. In spite of the political theater on the campaign trail, the U.S. may be pressed to exert its power and influence in several areas, including in the financial markets, on the diplomatic front, and especially in war zones.
3. The Virgo New Moon on the 15th is a good time to start a new diet or health regimen. A powerfully placed Mars this month suggests that aerobic exercises or physically-engaging recreational activities will go a long way toward reducing stress and helping to channel pent-up energy into healthier and more constructive outlets. Since Ceres is well-placed during the New Moon, improving one’s nutritional habits is especially favored.
4. Uranus squares Pluto on the 19th as Pluto turns direct, making this one of the most powerful of the seven squares between these two radical, transformative planets. Activists, fanatics, and militants are on the move, attempting to overturn the status quo. Oppression and constraint meet rebellion and liberation. Those with the Sun or other important placement at 5º-7º of any sign may be going through major life changes this month.
5. Juno enters Sagittarius on the 16th and then squares Neptune on the 20th. Due to its retrograde cycle, Juno has been in intense, sexually-oriented Scorpio for nearly a year, forcing couples to understand their physical rapport and to balance possessiveness with personal freedom. In Sagittarius, shared philosophical or spiritual views take priority, but watch out for deception or half-truths between the 16th and 21st.
Lance Armstrong, Guilty?
A reader asks, “Can you tell from Lance Armstrong’s chart if he was guilty? It sounds like he has Saturn on him somewhere right now, but that doesn't prove he did it.” Unfortunately, we don’t have a birth time for Armstrong (September 18, 1971; Plano, TX; time unknown). We do know that he has a relentless Sun-Pluto conjunction in Virgo, which might use any means to achieve perfection.
Using a noon birth time, transiting Saturn is not making any adverse hits to his natal chart. To the contrary, transiting Saturn is trine his progressed Mars in Aquarius where it conjoins the U.S. Moon. This might indicate that he may do well in the court of public opinion.
Like most super athletes, Armstrong was born with a powerfully placed Mars. His Mars is closely trine Uranus which gives him courage and the irrepressible confidence of a winner. His Mars is also trioctile his Sun, which adds vitality, and trine Saturn, giving him discipline and endurance. Mars conjunct the North Node suggests the philanthropic drive associated with Aquarius as his path forward in life.
Natally, Jupiter conjunct Neptune might infer that he used drugs to expand his potential, but the opposition to Saturn is the devil to pay. Currently, transiting Neptune is squaring natal Neptune, bringing all these Neptune-related drug charges to a head.
Armstrong’s Ceres in Leo forms an exact trine to his Neptune, a harmonious, life-enhancing placement that saved him from cancer. Progressed Ceres opposed his Mars when Armstrong separated from Sheryl Crow in February 2006. He said her ticking biological clock was too irritating, which fits with nurturing Ceres opposite angry Mars. Currently, his progressed Ceres is exactly conjunct his arrogant, egocentric South Node in Leo, bringing ruin to a once enviable career.
