"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: Katie Holmes divorce - Any astrological markers to the TomKat breakup, and/or the number 33, the age of all his wives when the got divorced?
Thanks for anything you can say about this in the Neptune Cafe blog.
re: Larry Ellison - in the 80's i lived a native style life on an undeveloped Hawaiian island for 7 years. There was an ancient kapu put on the island by the kahunas of old which was to protect the island from outsiders. and 2 or 3 millionaires could not beat our political fighting and certain natural happenings. Ellison is not a good person and plans to move the Hawaiians out for a typical luxe resort. but like my island the water supply is poisoned by 100 years or more of chemicals to produce the best pineapples. I never went to so many funerals in my life as I did on my island, most of it cancer of folks below 55. i would like to say that Oracle will steadily go down and now he has an ancient powerful curse on himself for buying lanai. at some point he has to implode and hopefully Hawaii will do him in as it has so many others.
re: who will win - Your insights into the upcoming election+Mercury Rx were insightful. I didn't think of that. But, I feel Obama will win handily because America wants its first black president to have a 2nd term. He will be forgiven much.
re: who will win - I think that we must also remember that Obama's secret strength is his ability to beat the odds (Jupiter conjunct Saturn in 12th house), and thereby best his opposition (Saturn inconjunct Uranus, and trine Mars in 7th house). Ever see videos of Obama shooting swish hoops, one after another, from way back around mid-court? First African American President in our history, in a country with the ruling class (ruling dynasty?) being of all northern European extraction. I continue to enjoy "Neptune Cafe", and your other writings.
re: who will win - I enjoy your insight very much. Your latest comments on the election are thought provoking. In looking at the dates of National Conventions, it appears that the Moon will be void all day on Obama's nomination day. I have read that Presidential nominees on a void moon always lose. Do you have any thoughts on that?
re: who will win - In your last column, you predicted a Romney win because among other things, Saturn will transit Scorpio during 2013, indicating that "voters turn conservative and elect a business-oriented Republican." However, I would argue that Romney is more of a radical than a Conservative. He, along with the GOP, is running on a platform of radical change, such as repealing ACA, voucherizing Medicare, reforming social security, reforming our tax code to benefit the rich, and rolling back most environmental and financial regulations. To me Obama is more of the status quo. So wouldn't Saturn in Scorpio be related more to actual conservative policies rather than party labels?
re: Election day snafus - Or the infamous computer hacking/vote tampering that SURELY went on in the past 2 elections! There was even an Ohio court case brought, and Karl Rove was heavily implicated, along with an Ohio IT guy whose private plane, with him piloting, went down on his way back from D.C. after supposedly telling the Bush PTB that he would testify about the vote manipulation. Does Mars have anything to do with stuff like this? "Computer wars" or something? ;-)
re: Meditations for Obama - I too am psychic and do healing meditations for people. Can continuing meditations, surrounding Obama with light help protect him from all the negativity surrounding him and help him get re-elected?
re: U.S. empire - Love your work, to me you are the best in the field. I wonder though why not one astrologer has written about the end of the time as World-power for the USA. Brittain held it for over 300 years. Spain ruled the world for awhile and who can forget Rome. But not one held it past a certain time. Maybe the USA will hunker down and do what it does best, do the Phoenix-Thing. The crowning achievement of any Scorpio! But what do you think? Believing in a Scorpio ascendent, Pluto coming full circle migjht make it happen. Thanks for all the interesting work you do, I have learned a lot.

Roberts Saves Obamacare
In a stunning 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act last Thursday with Chief Justice John Roberts breaking from his conservative ranks to join the liberal side of the bench. Roberts found a way to uphold the law as an exercise in Congress’ taxing power, and in the process, sent the message that the high court is an independent institution.
Roberts was born with his Sun and Mercury in objective, detached Aquarius (January 27, 1955; Buffalo, NY; time unknown), placements which tend to think outside the box and avoid partisan politics. However, until now, he has sided with his conservative colleagues, so that no one knew he might have a different opinion. Mercury squares Saturn, which works against independent thinking.
But Roberts’ Mercury is placed at 25º Aquarius where it conjoins the U.S. Moon. His opinions, therefore, become unusually relevant to concerns about the people’s security issues. Mercury (the way he processes information) is modulated by close aspects to all five of the outer planets, including an exceptionally tight quincunx to Uranus. And with his Mars located at 8º Aries, he was energized by transiting Uranus to break from the pack.
Roberts has suddenly become immensely well liked, even finding a few apologists on the right. Transiting Venus turned direct last week at 7º Gemini, forming a nice trine to Roberts’ Sun and a sextile to his Mars. Before last Thursday, half of Americans didn’t even know his name, but due to social media, he’s become an overnight celebrity. Now, as transiting Jupiter in Gemini trines his Sun, he’s off to Malta for his summer vacation and to enjoy the enduring imprint he’s left on the court.
European Leaders Surprise with Bold Moves
European leaders agreed on short and long term fixes to the EU’s chronic financial problems, surprising most observers who expected another dreary patch. After 18 disappointing summits, this time they established qualitative reforms that would de-link banks from sovereign debt by creating a permanent central rescue fund. The presidents of France, Spain, and Italy successfully confronted Germany’s Angela Merkel, insisting that she ease up on austerity demands.
Resonating with simultaneous, epic events around the globe, the EU agreement arrived under the influence of a dynamic T-square. Anyone with natal placements at 7-8º in any sign would have an important few days last week. For the European Union (November 1, 1993; 12:00 am; Brussels, Belgium), the Sun at 8º Scorpio received a favorable trine from the transiting Sun in Cancer and a sextile from transiting Pluto. Transiting Uranus quincunx the EU Sun brought the unexpected breakthrough.
The EU Chiron is located in the 2nd house of money where it has brought plenty of wounds to the currency model. But Chiron is interested in fixing problems, and by secondary progression is now at 8º Virgo. The progressed EU Mercury is at 8º Scorpio, where it conjoins the EU Sun and is sextile the progressed Chiron (orb: 0º05’). All these placements were activated by last week’s dynamic T-square.
On Friday, the U.S. and global markets responded euphorically and the trend looks to continue. Europe is showing that it’s serious about becoming stronger and more centralized, but will it last? By secondary progression, Saturn is closing in on its square to the Taurus Moon, which indicates austerity measures will remain a primary sticking point. Also, a progressed Mars-Chiron square is shaping up for mid-2013 as transiting Neptune opposes the EU Chiron at the same time. The devil is in the details….
Katie Holmes Files for Divorce
Astrologers will be able to spot the trouble in their individual charts, but the composite chart of Tom Cruise (July 3, 1962; 3:06 pm; Syracuse, NY) and Katie Holmes (December 18, 1978; 9:32 pm; Toledo, OH) tells the story best. The Libra Sun conjunct Venus and Uranus describes their spontaneous love affair and mutual excitement, as Tom’s unscripted bouncing on Oprah’s sofa so clearly demonstrated.
But with Pluto conjunct their Virgo Ascendant, this relationship was defined by Tom’s domination, his superstar status. Most importantly, with Jupiter in the 9th house of religion trine Pluto, he insisted that Katie get involved in Scientology. Mercury, the ruler of their composite chart, is found in the 12th house of hidden activity where it opposes Mars in faith-oriented Pisces: privately, they were arguing about religion and how their daughter Suri would be brought up.
Uranus rules the 5th house of children, where the Part of Fortune is located. Suri’s Aquarius Ascendant identifies her as that Part of Fortune. Katie filed for divorce in New York, where unlike California, the courts do not favor joint custody. At the time, the transiting Uranus-Pluto square was activated by the transiting Sun and they all aligned with their composite Uranus. In fact, transiting Uranus opposed their natal Uranus with an orb of only 0º02’.
Transiting Mars had just arrived on their Virgo Ascendant, after having spent months in their 12th house. One can only imagine the behind-the-scenes turmoil that Mars instigated, but now that transiting Mars is conjunct Pluto, the dispute is in the open. Transiting Saturn just turned direct right on their 2nd house cusp, so there will be plenty of fighting about money. But Saturn here opposes Ceres, the parenting asteroid, so it’s really about custody of Suri and how she’ll be raised.
