re: Romney - I've read many times that a candidate must have a connection with the US Moon at 25 degrees Aquarius in order to be elected. I see that Obama has 3 planets/asteroids at 25 degrees of their respective signs, but I'm not seeing anything in Romney's natal chart. Am I missing something? Progressions, maybe?
A. Thanks for asking. Looks like the link to the Romney page was broken, but it's fixed now. Yes, several progressions, especially his Sun. From NeptuneCafe's Romney page: "On Election Day – November 6, 2012 – Romney’s progressed Sun will be only 0º03’ from squaring the U.S. Moon. This gives him a clear emotional connection with the American people, making him a potential winner."
Re: Biden - I wondered, just to have all sides of the matter inspected, whether or not Joe Biden's horoscope was also favorably (or unfavorably) aspected to be the next VP (re) elect. You've done Obama, and Romney, and now Ryan. I know that you have done Joe Biden's horoscope in the past, but you haven't covered it up through this coming election. He's the last one of the key players needing to be looked at for the next three months.
re: the candidates' solar returns - Have you compared Romney's and Obama's Solar Return Charts for 2012? Wouldn't this give a more accurate prediction for who will win the election than their transits on Inauguration day?
A. I don't think the technique of using Solar Returns has evolved to the point where it provides accurate, reliable information. The problem is that there is no agreement among astrologers about which location to use, whether that should be the birth place, current residence, or wherever one happens to be at the time of the return. Some astrologers also consider precession, which leaves six possible solar return charts to intepret. I may have what I think is a reliable technique, but it will only convince those who use the same technique. I recommend reading Lee Lehman's new book Classical Solar Returns for a critical look at the confusing mess the astrological community is in regarding the use of solar returns. This is why I rely on transits and secondary progressions since we have near unanimous agreement on the validity of these techniques.
re: Aurua shooting - Your piece on the USA horoscope and the Aurora massacre was excellent. Very smart. And yet another--as if we really need more--reason for adopting the Scorpio-rising chart for the US.... One other bit of news is about the Toronto mall shooting survivor--it happened in early June of this year--Jessica Ghawi was killed in Aurora. How bizarre. Of course, it's just a "coincidence." Yeah, right. I wonder what her horoscope looks like.

re: commodity prices - I read your posts on Newscope every Monday and follow this blog on a regular basis. You mentioned that sun and ceres conjunction in the coming year. Can I ask you when it will be exact???
A. The U.S. progressed Sun will be conjunct natal Ceres on August 7, 2013, so this connection gets stronger between now and then. The influence of this challenging connection to Ceres doesn't wane though, because the progressed Sun goes on to square Uranus, becoming exact on October 29, 2013. The price of corn, wheat, soybeans and other agricultural products may continue to rise even after that, sijnce transiting Neptune conjoins the U.S. Ceres beginning in 2015. Global warming is upon us, and the progressions and transits reflect the stress on the agricultural industry.
re: Condi Rice - How does Condi's chart look around the Inauguration? Thanks, as always, for your deep, fascinating work.
A. Her chart actually looks very good on Jan 20, 2013. The transiting North Node is right on her Midheaven, her progressed Mars is exactly trine her 6th house Uranus, her progressed Midheaven is sextile her Venus, transiting Uranus is precisely sextile her Ascendant. These measurements suggest a new start, a tremendous career boost. If she's not the VP choice, I suspect she'll at least get a key cabinet post.
re: inauguration date - In my studies of the Inauguration 2013 horoscope I've been using January 21 since January 20 falls on a Sunday (as was Reagan's 2nd Inauguration) so am wondering if the official 'noon' time Jan 20 is what should be used for the horoscope or the actual date the Oath of Office will be taken on Monday? Thanks for all your excellent work and for your book--I link to and cite your website and articles whenever I can!
A. Have a look at each candidate’s chart for January 20, 2013 (noon; Washington DC), which is the official time and date mandated by the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution when the president’s term begins. In 2013, January 20 happens to fall on a Sunday, and is the date and time used here. The Oath of Office will be given before noon on January 20. Then, the public ceremony will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013.

re: rectified charts - I'm disappointed that you use rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Anne Romney to justify your opinion that Romney will win. Rectified charts are no substitute for accurate birth data.
A. I totally agree that accurate birth data should be the basis for any solid forecast. Please notice that I rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Ann Romney before I concluded that Romney would win. The wives' charts are speculative, and clearly labeled as such. The June 4 NewsScope forecast of a Romney victory was my first analysis of the candidates' respective chances, which was inspired by the UAC panel's unanimous conclusion that Obama would win. If you want to criticize my forecast of a Romney win, look at what I said about his and Barack Obama's charts, not their wives' charts.

The Activated Uranus-Pluto Dynamic
One of the effects of the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square is that what used to be an interesting but minor local event may now be broadcast and discussed across our global village. While the influence of this transformational dynamic minimally covers from 2011 through 2015, the peak events within this phase unfold when faster-moving transits form aspects to the square to activate the underlying tension.
Such was the case last week when transiting Mercury in Leo and Venus in Cancer simultaneously formed aspects to Uranus and Pluto. Long simmering problem areas burst into the news with sudden and dramatic developments. Last week global citizens discussed the shocking violence at a South African platinum mine after 34 people were killed and 78 wounded when police opened fire on striking workers.
Concurrent with the activation of the Uranus-Pluto square was the conjunction of Mars and Saturn in diplomatic Libra. Saturn’s restraint can only hold Mars back for so long, and just after the aspect, Mars feels free to use force or take action. Last week, Ecuador’s president finally granted Wikileaks founder Julian Assange political asylum in his country. British authorities threatened to break international law by invading Ecuador’s embassy to nab the fugitive.
Nowhere were the important Venus transit and simultaneous Mars-Saturn conjunction more influential than in Moscow, where three members of the feminist punk rock band Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years in prison for “hooliganism”. President Putin’s conservative, patriarchal brand of politics has successfully isolated the more liberal elements of Russian society, while across Europe and the United States, support for the young women has been passionate and overwhelming. This chart is set for last Friday's New Moon and shows how the faster-moving Mercury and Venus activate Uranus-Pluto. Also, the New Moon squares Black Moon Lilith.
Russia’s Black Moon
Putin’s natural alliance with the Russian Orthodox Church was explored in NewsScope’s June 18 edition but it’s worth looking at Russia’s horoscope (June 12, 1990; 1:45 pm; Moscow) to see the larger context. After the collapse of the atheistic communist regime, the new Russia began falling back to its religious heritage to gain validation, as evidenced by the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in the 4th house of roots.
Mercury, the chart’s ruling planet, is found in the 9th house of religion, and a Jupiter-Chiron conjunction in the 10th house reiterates the theme of an empowered religious faction. One of the tightest aspects in this chart is the Mars-Uranus square, which pits radical conservatism (Uranus in
Capricorn) against a bold, independent opposition (Mars in Aries in the 7th house). This configuration was activated last week by the transiting Venus-Uranus-Pluto dynamic. Plus, Russia’s authoritarian Saturn in Capricorn was squared by the transiting Mars-Saturn conjunction.
The issue of radical feminism can be associated with Black Moon Lilith. Feminist icon Helen Gurley Brown, who died last week, was born with a Venus-Black Moon-Uranus triple conjunction in Pisces. Jessica Alba, who identified herself as a feminist at age 5, was born with her Venus opposite Black Moon Lilith, which when activated in 2000, brought her swift fame as TV’s Dark Angel.
Vladimir Putin has his elevated Pluto conjunct Dark Moon Lilith, so his task is to ruthlessly repress the feminist movement as best he can. In Russia’s chart, BML is placed at 24º Virgo where it forms a tight Yod with Saturn and the Midheaven. Last week when the judicial system handed down its verdict, transiting BML was opposing natal BML. Undoubtedly, this fateful Yod involving the irrepressible Lilith archetype will continue to shape Russia’s destiny.
Jessica Alba, On a Roll
Jessica Alba’s current film projects include a comedy, a horror flick, an animated movie and the sequel to Sin City – all of which will be released in 2013. She’s on the September cover of Self and Sierra magazines, and a prominent item in most every tabloid. She’ll host a DNC party after the Democratic convention, and she’s busy managing her eco-friendly business, An Honest Company.
Jessica Alba was born with five planets, including her Sun and Mars, in the calm sign of Taurus (April 28, 1981; 1:51 pm; Pomona, CA). What takes her out of this internal serenity is her 4th house Uranus, which is an unsettling, destabilizing placement due to its challenging aspects to her Mars, Moon, and Leo Ascendant -- all of which make her eternally restless and often anxious.
Jessica’s Venus-Chiron conjunction in Taurus is near the Midheaven, where it’s defined her professional career as a popular and attractive actress. Her fans wouldn’t understand the insecurities that Chiron has had over her Venus, because she appears to be so beautiful and in demand. Those with hard Venus-Chiron aspects tend to feel unloved and unlovable, but may compensate by being a celebrity. Other starlets with this aspect include Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, Heather Locklear, Sophia Loren, and Angelina Jolie.
Jessica has numerous close ties to the U.S. horoscope, which enhance her prominence as a national star. Her Sun at 8º Taurus is exactly aligned with the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, and her Moon in Aquarius is in the same degree and sign as the U.S. Moon, as is her North Node and the U.S. North Node. Her Ceres at 24º Cancer conjoins the U.S. Mercury, a combination which has found passionate expression as the concerned spokesperson for the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families coalition.
