re: the candidates' solar returns - Have you compared Romney's and Obama's Solar Return Charts for 2012? Wouldn't this give a more accurate prediction for who will win the election than their transits on Inauguration day?
A. I don't think the technique of using Solar Returns has evolved to the point where it provides accurate, reliable information. The problem is that there is no agreement among astrologers about which location to use, whether that should be the birth place, current residence, or wherever one happens to be at the time of the return. Some astrologers also consider precession, which leaves six possible solar return charts to intepret. I may have what I think is a reliable technique, but it will only convince those who use the same technique. I recommend reading Lee Lehman's new book Classical Solar Returns for a critical look at the confusing mess the astrological community is in regarding the use of solar returns. This is why I rely on transits and secondary progressions since we have near unanimous agreement on the validity of these techniques.
re: Aurua shooting - Your piece on the USA horoscope and the Aurora massacre was excellent. Very smart. And yet another--as if we really need more--reason for adopting the Scorpio-rising chart for the US.... One other bit of news is about the Toronto mall shooting survivor--it happened in early June of this year--Jessica Ghawi was killed in Aurora. How bizarre. Of course, it's just a "coincidence." Yeah, right. I wonder what her horoscope looks like.

re: commodity prices - I read your posts on Newscope every Monday and follow this blog on a regular basis. You mentioned that sun and ceres conjunction in the coming year. Can I ask you when it will be exact???
A. The U.S. progressed Sun will be conjunct natal Ceres on August 7, 2013, so this connection gets stronger between now and then. The influence of this challenging connection to Ceres doesn't wane though, because the progressed Sun goes on to square Uranus, becoming exact on October 29, 2013. The price of corn, wheat, soybeans and other agricultural products may continue to rise even after that, sijnce transiting Neptune conjoins the U.S. Ceres beginning in 2015. Global warming is upon us, and the progressions and transits reflect the stress on the agricultural industry.
re: Condi Rice - How does Condi's chart look around the Inauguration? Thanks, as always, for your deep, fascinating work.
A. Her chart actually looks very good on Jan 20, 2013. The transiting North Node is right on her Midheaven, her progressed Mars is exactly trine her 6th house Uranus, her progressed Midheaven is sextile her Venus, transiting Uranus is precisely sextile her Ascendant. These measurements suggest a new start, a tremendous career boost. If she's not the VP choice, I suspect she'll at least get a key cabinet post.
re: inauguration date - In my studies of the Inauguration 2013 horoscope I've been using January 21 since January 20 falls on a Sunday (as was Reagan's 2nd Inauguration) so am wondering if the official 'noon' time Jan 20 is what should be used for the horoscope or the actual date the Oath of Office will be taken on Monday? Thanks for all your excellent work and for your book--I link to and cite your website and articles whenever I can!
A. Have a look at each candidate’s chart for January 20, 2013 (noon; Washington DC), which is the official time and date mandated by the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution when the president’s term begins. In 2013, January 20 happens to fall on a Sunday, and is the date and time used here. The Oath of Office will be given before noon on January 20. Then, the public ceremony will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013.

re: rectified charts - I'm disappointed that you use rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Anne Romney to justify your opinion that Romney will win. Rectified charts are no substitute for accurate birth data.
A. I totally agree that accurate birth data should be the basis for any solid forecast. Please notice that I rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Ann Romney before I concluded that Romney would win. The wives' charts are speculative, and clearly labeled as such. The June 4 NewsScope forecast of a Romney victory was my first analysis of the candidates' respective chances, which was inspired by the UAC panel's unanimous conclusion that Obama would win. If you want to criticize my forecast of a Romney win, look at what I said about his and Barack Obama's charts, not their wives' charts.
re: Katie Holmes divorce - Any astrological markers to the TomKat breakup, and/or the number 33, the age of all his wives when the got divorced?

re: Larry Ellison - in the 80's i lived a native style life on an undeveloped Hawaiian island for 7 years. There was an ancient kapu put on the island by the kahunas of old which was to protect the island from outsiders. and 2 or 3 millionaires could not beat our political fighting and certain natural happenings. Ellison is not a good person and plans to move the Hawaiians out for a typical luxe resort. but like my island the water supply is poisoned by 100 years or more of chemicals to produce the best pineapples. I never went to so many funerals in my life as I did on my island, most of it cancer of folks below 55. i would like to say that Oracle will steadily go down and now he has an ancient powerful curse on himself for buying lanai. at some point he has to implode and hopefully Hawaii will do him in as it has so many others.

Paul Ryan Wins the Veepstakes
Mitt Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan, the fiscal activist from Wisconsin, shores up his conservative credentials and allies him with the younger reformist wing of the party. The Romney-Ryan ticket ensures that the campaign will focus on the economic big picture, and that Romney has now embraced a more dramatic solution to the nation’s fiscal woes than he’s previously discussed.
This triwheel segment of the U.S. Scorpio Rising chart is set for Oct. 11, 2012 and shows the progressed Moon-Mars conjunction in the middle wheel activated by the transiting Sun in the outer wheel. Transiting Mercury conjunct the Ascendant ensures a notable headline news story.

Paul Ryan was born with his Aquarius Sun on the 3rd house cusp of ideas (Jan. 29, 1970; 2:37 am*; Janesville, WI) where it conjoins the political asteroid Pallas on one side and charming Venus on the other. This triple conjunction considered in isolation can make for an attractive candidate. But his Sun-Pallas-Venus is under pressure from Jupiter in Scorpio and Saturn in Taurus, which tends to make him a polarizing figure over his fiscal ideas.
With Neptune on his Sagittarius Ascendant enhanced by a trine to Mars in bold Aries, his supporters call him a pioneering visionary. However, his Mars opposes Uranus and Pluto, which fosters radical proposals to cut federal spending and balance the budget. His nationally debated bill to cut entitlement programs has touched a nerve with the poor and elderly, allowing Democrats an easy target.
Ryan’s Ascendant is 180º from Romney’s Gemini Ascendant, which astrologically, is an ideal partnership. The problem is that transiting Neptune is squaring both their ascendants, which will make it difficult for voters to understand the complex economics behind the slogans. With transiting Uranus and Pluto activating Ryan’s Mars-Uranus opposition, his selection as Veep ensures intense polarization. His progressed Ascendant is favorably sextile Jupiter and growing stronger over the next six months. Since his Jupiter is near the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, it makes him a likely winner.

The U.S. Progressed Moon-Mars Conjunction
Having seen the relevance of the U.S. progressed Moon in the James Holmes rampage (see NewsScope July 23, 2012), it’s worth mapping out what’s coming next for this indicator. The most important aspect it makes over the next few months is a big one: a conjunction with the U.S. progressed Mars* on October 14. This event-oriented combination arrives just three weeks before Election Day and could be decisive.
What makes this progressed Moon-Mars interesting is that it takes place in the 12th house of hidden activity. Note that the U.S. progressed Ascendant (which advances 1º/year while the progressed Moon moves 1º/month) was squaring this progressed Mars on September 11, 2001 (orb: 0º23’). The U.S. progressed Mars in the 12th house correlates to terrorist activity, counter-terrorism efforts, and the military’s preference for covert or low-intensity operations rather than full scale, direct assaults.
Both candidates are turning negative under this influence, and likely to become more so through the debates in mid-October. Another manifestation of this astro-event may be the need to intervene in Syria as the Assad regime becomes ever more
brutal and desperate. Simultaneously, transiting Saturn is heading into a square with the U.S. Pluto, which historically has coincided with military action.
We may see a rash of extreme domestic violence, with the recent shooting in a Sikh temple revealing an undercurrent of explosive racism that may get worse. The transiting Sun helps pinpoint specific dates when we may expect trouble. As it happens, the Sun activates the progressed Moon-Mars conjunction only days before it’s exact. Watch on October 10 or 11 for a pivotal martial incident and/or a turning point in the presidential contest.

When Will Angelina Jolie Marry?
Last week the tabloids were reporting that power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt would marry over the weekend. Friends and family were gathering at their palatial estate in southern France for a huge party, which sent the paparazzi running with rumors of a secret wedding. The rumors were false (Mercury quincunx Neptune), but the two are engaged. When will it happen?
In NewsScope’s April 16, 2012 edition, Brad’s chart showed the strongest portents for marriage since his progressed Midheaven is nearly conjunct his Juno, the marriage asteroid. Angelina’s progressed Juno at 8º Cancer is being awakened by the transiting Uranus-Pluto square, so she’s agreed - in theory. But these aspects are stressful, making it an uneasy leap for her. Juno in Cancer gets married for the children, which is how she explained her reluctant agreement.
Angelina’s first marriage to British actor Jonny Lee Miller on March 28, 1996 took place under a strong Saturn transit: Saturn at 28º Pisces was exactly trine her Cancer Ascendant, and activating her dynamic Venus-Chiron-Uranus T-square. Her second marriage to Billy Bob Thornton on May 5, 2000 took place as her progressed Ascendant was exactly sextile her Juno. These are normal, expected signatures.
One possible wedding date comes in late September when transiting Saturn arrives on her 4th house Uranus. Transiting Jupiter is near her Juno then, but turns retrograde before making contact, indicating that the ceremony may be delayed. The Full Moon in late January looks good when transiting Jupiter turns direct in Gemini while trine her Pluto. Brad’s chart is illuminated with wedding bells then too, since he has a rare progressed Moon-Midheaven conjunction that conjoins natal Juno.
