re: Condi Rice - How does Condi's chart look around the Inauguration? Thanks, as always, for your deep, fascinating work.
A. Her chart actually looks very good on Jan 20, 2013. The transiting North Node is right on her Midheaven, her progressed Mars is exactly trine her 6th house Uranus, her progressed Midheaven is sextile her Venus, transiting Uranus is precisely sextile her Ascendant. These measurements suggest a new start, a tremendous career boost. If she's not the VP choice, I suspect she'll at least get a key cabinet post.
re: inauguration date - In my studies of the Inauguration 2013 horoscope I've been using January 21 since January 20 falls on a Sunday (as was Reagan's 2nd Inauguration) so am wondering if the official 'noon' time Jan 20 is what should be used for the horoscope or the actual date the Oath of Office will be taken on Monday? Thanks for all your excellent work and for your book--I link to and cite your website and articles whenever I can!
A. Have a look at each candidate’s chart for January 20, 2013 (noon; Washington DC), which is the official time and date mandated by the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution when the president’s term begins. In 2013, January 20 happens to fall on a Sunday, and is the date and time used here. The Oath of Office will be given before noon on January 20. Then, the public ceremony will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013.
re: Romney win - I always respect your analyses. But honestly, this is one time I hope you're wrong, even thought I suspect you're right... Damn...
re: rectified charts - I'm disappointed that you use rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Anne Romney to justify your opinion that Romney will win. Rectified charts are no substitute for accurate birth data.
A. I totally agree that accurate birth data should be the basis for any solid forecast. Please notice that I rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Ann Romney before I concluded that Romney would win. The wives' charts are speculative, and clearly labeled as such. The June 4 NewsScope forecast of a Romney victory was my first analysis of the candidates' respective chances, which was inspired by the UAC panel's unanimous conclusion that Obama would win. If you want to criticize my forecast of a Romney win, look at what I said about his and Barack Obama's charts, not their wives' charts.
re: Katie Holmes divorce - Any astrological markers to the TomKat breakup, and/or the number 33, the age of all his wives when the got divorced?
Thanks for anything you can say about this in the Neptune Cafe blog.
re: Larry Ellison - in the 80's i lived a native style life on an undeveloped Hawaiian island for 7 years. There was an ancient kapu put on the island by the kahunas of old which was to protect the island from outsiders. and 2 or 3 millionaires could not beat our political fighting and certain natural happenings. Ellison is not a good person and plans to move the Hawaiians out for a typical luxe resort. but like my island the water supply is poisoned by 100 years or more of chemicals to produce the best pineapples. I never went to so many funerals in my life as I did on my island, most of it cancer of folks below 55. i would like to say that Oracle will steadily go down and now he has an ancient powerful curse on himself for buying lanai. at some point he has to implode and hopefully Hawaii will do him in as it has so many others.
re: who will win - Your insights into the upcoming election+Mercury Rx were insightful. I didn't think of that. But, I feel Obama will win handily because America wants its first black president to have a 2nd term. He will be forgiven much.
re: who will win - I think that we must also remember that Obama's secret strength is his ability to beat the odds (Jupiter conjunct Saturn in 12th house), and thereby best his opposition (Saturn inconjunct Uranus, and trine Mars in 7th house). Ever see videos of Obama shooting swish hoops, one after another, from way back around mid-court? First African American President in our history, in a country with the ruling class (ruling dynasty?) being of all northern European extraction. I continue to enjoy "Neptune Cafe", and your other writings.
re: who will win - I enjoy your insight very much. Your latest comments on the election are thought provoking. In looking at the dates of National Conventions, it appears that the Moon will be void all day on Obama's nomination day. I have read that Presidential nominees on a void moon always lose. Do you have any thoughts on that?
re: who will win - In your last column, you predicted a Romney win because among other things, Saturn will transit Scorpio during 2013, indicating that "voters turn conservative and elect a business-oriented Republican." However, I would argue that Romney is more of a radical than a Conservative. He, along with the GOP, is running on a platform of radical change, such as repealing ACA, voucherizing Medicare, reforming social security, reforming our tax code to benefit the rich, and rolling back most environmental and financial regulations. To me Obama is more of the status quo. So wouldn't Saturn in Scorpio be related more to actual conservative policies rather than party labels?
re: Election day snafus - Or the infamous computer hacking/vote tampering that SURELY went on in the past 2 elections! There was even an Ohio court case brought, and Karl Rove was heavily implicated, along with an Ohio IT guy whose private plane, with him piloting, went down on his way back from D.C. after supposedly telling the Bush PTB that he would testify about the vote manipulation. Does Mars have anything to do with stuff like this? "Computer wars" or something? ;-)
re: Meditations for Obama - I too am psychic and do healing meditations for people. Can continuing meditations, surrounding Obama with light help protect him from all the negativity surrounding him and help him get re-elected?
re: U.S. empire - Love your work, to me you are the best in the field. I wonder though why not one astrologer has written about the end of the time as World-power for the USA. Brittain held it for over 300 years. Spain ruled the world for awhile and who can forget Rome. But not one held it past a certain time. Maybe the USA will hunker down and do what it does best, do the Phoenix-Thing. The crowning achievement of any Scorpio! But what do you think? Believing in a Scorpio ascendent, Pluto coming full circle migjht make it happen. Thanks for all the interesting work you do, I have learned a lot.

Ceres and Commodity Prices
Scientists have just confirmed that the last twelve months were the warmest on record. One of the hardest hit areas has been the midwest where drought and intense heat have caused corn crops to dry up and prices to rise. While technical analysts say the price of corn will continue to rise until it rains, the astrological picture looks a bit bleaker.
As the Goddess of the Grains, Ceres is specifically associated with agricultural production, and in the U.S. horoscope, Ceres is generally very well placed. The U.S. Ceres is located at 8º Pisces where it forms a favorable trine to the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant and another trine to Jupiter in Cancer. The U.S. Grand Trine connecting Ceres, the Ascendant, and the planet of abundance has helped the U.S. to become the greatest agricultural power the world has ever seen.
Ceres also squares Uranus, which periodically fosters a crisis of production. The record high for corn prices was set in May 1988 when low production coincided with progressed Ceres squaring the U.S. Mars. The most devastating drought took place in the 1930s during that era’s Uranus-Pluto square. Now, one Uranus cycle later, drought conditions have returned.
Over the next two weeks, transiting Chiron conjoins the U.S. Ceres while transiting Mars activates the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square. During this double whammy, we can expect corn, soybeans, and wheat prices to reach a short-term peak. However, the U.S. progressed Sun is now at 7º Pisces, only one degree from conjoining the U.S. Ceres. Next year when this astro-event becomes exact, we may see an even larger price spike in key agricultural commodities.
This triwheel segment shows the U.S. Ceres, progressed Sun and transiting Chiron.
Condi Rice Rumors Abound
Last Thursday Matt Drudge sent the political blogosphere into overdrive when he reported that Condoleezza Rice was one of Romney’s top choices for vice president. Although Rice has said she’s not interested, the report received much credence because of Drudge’s close ties to the Romney campaign. A recent poll gave her an 80 percent approval rating – 25 points higher than her nearest competitor.
Condi Rice was born with a magnetic Sun-Venus conjunction in Scorpio (November 14, 1954; 11:37 am; Birmingham, AL), which is prominently placed near her Scorpio Midheaven. Mercury and Saturn are also in Scorpio and located in her 9th house of foreign affairs – her diplomatic calling card. Mars in her first house squares Saturn, giving her a toughness well liked by many Republicans.
Comparing Rice’s chart with Romney’s, her Scorpio planets are closely connected to his Moon-Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio, so that she activates and energizes this patrician combination in a way that presents a more diverse worldview than most voters suspect. Rice’s Sun is exactly trine Romney’s Sun, and with Juno turning direct right on her Sun, a political marriage is evidently shaping up.
The main drawback is her pro-choice stand, which rankles Romney’s religious right. With Ceres - associated with birth control issues - square Pluto, this stand will definitely create waves, especially since her progressed Moon is now activating this aspect. The Drudge Report appears as Mercury is turning retrograde, so it’s clearly a trial balloon to see how well Republicans warm up to her. Watch for the final decision when Saturn conjoins Condi’s Juno just as Mercury turns direct around August 7.
Woody Guthrie, the Dust Bowl Troubadour
On the occasion of Woody Guthrie’s 100th birthday last weekend, centennial gatherings and folk festivals large and small celebrated the singer’s songs about migrant farm workers, trade unions, and other socialist causes. It’s been a good year for Woody Guthrie, who died in 1967, with new books being published and his daughter Nora hiring musicians to record many of his 3,000 songs for the first time.
Woody (“Woodrow Wilson”) Guthrie was born with a Venus-Neptune-Sun triple conjunction in Cancer (July 14, 1912; Okemah, OK; time unknown), which happens to align with the U.S. Mercury in Cancer. This link between his personal planets and the U.S. Mercury allowed him to personify a message about the American condition that needed to be heard. The Venus-Neptune influence suggests his romanticism, artistry, and yearning for the ideal home.
However, with his Moon most likely in late Cancer where it opposes Uranus in Aquarius, Woody Guthrie was a restless wanderer, never able to stay home for very long. The Moon-Uranus influence points to his humanitarianism, and how he identified with the millions of poor migrants who were uprooted by the dust bowl. Mars in Leo conjoins caring Ceres, helping to make him a hero in the eyes of the downtrodden.
Guthrie’s Mercury at 16º Leo is exactly conjunct the U.S. Midheaven, which reiterates his role as a messenger about the American condition. During his travels, he wrote his most famous song “This Land is Your Land”, which was later popularized by Bob Dylan and other folk singers.* As Woody Guthrie is going through his second Chiron Return, we are reminded about the suffering that Chiron in Pisces can bring, and how to find solace in song and community.
Woody Guthrie variations:
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.
Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.
In the squares of the city, In the shadow of a steeple;
