re: Romney elected - Love your website & work... Just some food for thought here.... There are a few writings appearing at this point reflecting what Romney’s & his wife’s charts look in the future... hints of her being really unsettled... possible he won’t live a term putting Paul Ryan in the hot seat... I would be interesting to see your take on the long view if indeed Romney pulls it off... I have an uneasy feeling if Romney gets in things won’t be as he thinks in many area’s... any insight in a weekly review would be great...
A. My main concern at this point is Romney's progressed Mars, which at 27 Capricorn, is heading into a square with the U.S. Pluto. That's a very prominent war indicator. If he becomes the Commander-in-Chief, it likely won't be long before the U.S. is engaged in a major military conflict, and a potentially devastating one.
re: calculating BML - How do I figure my progressed black moon? My birthdate is 9/29/1927.
A. BML moves very slowly by progression. You can do a chart for 85 days after you were born, and that will tell you were your progressed BML is at age 85. There are online services for making charts like that, such as alabe.com, although I’m not sure if they have an option to include BML. The alternative is to get some astrology software, and then plug in the data for your current progressed chart. Try halloran.com for some inexpensive software that includes BML.
re: Black Moon Lilith - Thank you for covering the Black Moon Lilith in this week's NewScope.
I noted that you are using the "mean" setting for calculating the Black Moon Lilith in natal charts, and that in this week's NewScope you referenced "Sun conjunct Black Moon Lilith (orb <2 degrees)".
An Astrodienst Black Moon Lilith article refers to the "mean" node as only being "true" twice each month. I would appreciate any comments you might have regarding the accuracy of Black Moon Lilith calculations in individual natal charts, as there appears to be a wide orb of potential variance in any "mean" calculations as well as the "true" calculations with the exception of 2 specific dates and times each month.
A. Both the mean and true Black Moon Lilith positions are valid points. The mean position moves at a fairly consistent rate while the true position jumps forward and backwards, and occasionally can be over 30 degrees different from the mean position. I've been using the mean, but one will also find that the true apogee position resonates with this archetype whenever it's activated by major transit or progression. My colleague Divine Harmony has studied the difference between the two. She tells me: "the true is more appropriate to the wild, potent and naturally chaotic energy of the dark feminine - while the mean is how it gets civilized or NOT. Perhaps the mean when negatively expressed is how the person who has it represses it and the shadow comes out."
re: Black moon Lilith - Thanks for including Black Moon Lilith and explaining her potential influence, especially in the case of Mitt Romney. I follow your articles and your earlier prediction that Romney will win the next election. After his 47% remark I began wondering how he could win. It's all so interesting; isn't it? I think he could benefit from a consultation with you!

re: Black Moon Lilith - Interesting analysis regarding Mitt Romney's BML. The next question for me is: what's the impact of Obama's BML? Another question is: what is stronger, the rest of one's chart or the BML? What is the BML for the USA on election day or Inauguration day? I enjoy your analysis and look forward to your column each Monday.
A. Obama's BML is located at 20º34’ Leo where it is conjunct his Descendant. His progressed BML is currently at 26º14’ Leo and conjoined by his North Node and Uranus. Natally, his BML could very well be personified as Michelle, who is an empowered woman and expresses the creative, constructive side of this archetype. During the debate, transiting Mars in Scorpio was squaring his progressed BML, which seemed to confound him, flattening his style. Later this month, the transiting Lunar Nodes square his progressed BML, which doesn't look helpful at all.

A. Yes, Kerry's chart looks not bad, and he reached the pinnacle of his career. Did you look at Bush's? He had his progressed Midheaven conjunct his Uranus-North Node, and his progressed Sun conjunct Mars, the ruler of his Midheaven. Plus, progressed Mars (ruling the Midheaven) conjunct his Chiron-Moon-Juno...

re: U.S. progressed Moon-Mars conjunction - I always enjoy reading your Newscope articles and endeavor to learn from them. I'm curious if you will update your analysis of the Libya protests and September 11th deaths of our citizens in Libya now that news reports are indicating that initial explanations from the White House weren't consistent with what they knew and that indeed terrorism may have been involved. Wouldn't that still be in line with your assessments of the dangers of the U.S. progressed Mars conjunct progressed Moon?

The Presidential Debates
Astrologers who use progressions* to make forecasts generally accept that they are more telling than transits. For example, Carol Rushman in The Art of Predictive Astrology, writes “When progressions are positive and the transits are adverse, matters can turn out in a constructive manner. However, that often is not the case when the progressions are difficult and transits are easy.”
Considering this basic principle and the traditional planets, Romney’s progressed chart is doubly blessed by a progressed Moon-Midheaven conjunction that trines his natal Pluto. It’s helped him overcome the vagueness and elusiveness associated with transiting Neptune squaring his Gemini Ascendant. Neptune’s influence is now past. Romney’s chart is now under the influence of his progressed Moon trine natal Pluto, which will be exact on October 18. This allows him to gain momentum through the next debate.
Obama’s progressed chart has only one favorable aspect (progressed Sun sextile Mercury) and five others are adverse when considering the aspects less than 1/4º from exact (notably, progressed Midheaven trioctile Moon, progressed Fortuna conjunct Neptune, progressed Juno opposite Mars). Looking at his transits, Saturn was in the last degree of Libra during last week’s debate and heading into a dispiriting, serious square with his Jupiter. It showed.
Saturn’s square to Jupiter may also indicate that he was feeling his responsibilities as Commander-in-Chief. Transiting Mars was prominently conjoining his Midheaven and squaring natal Uranus, inferring he may have been preoccupied with a military crisis. For the next presidential debate on October 16, Obama’s progressions are pretty much the same. However, transiting Saturn will be past its square to Jupiter and more favorably trine Venus. Also, transiting Mars will square his Pluto, putting him in an intensely combative mood. It’s going to be a close finish.

Turkey’s Cardinal Grand Cross
Last week a Syrian mortar round hit a Turkish border town, killing five civilians. Turkey quickly responded by firing artillery shells into northern Syria. The tension has been escalating ever since, threatening to turn the Syrian civil war into a regional conflict. Inside Turkey, where anti-Syrian rebels have found refuge, the sentiment is that the U.S. has offered nothing but empty promises.
Turkey’s horoscope (October 29, 1923; 8:30 pm; Ankara, Turkey) features a powerful Mars-Pluto square, which corresponds to its regional military strength. Mars is located at 7º Libra where it squares Pluto near the Cancer Ascendant. Over the last month, the transiting Uranus-Pluto square at 7º Aries-Capricorn has activated Turkey’s Mars-Ascendant square, creating an extremely volatile Grand Cross in these action-oriented cardinal signs.
Transiting Uranus is retrograding away from this critical degree area, but will return in March 2013. Pluto, on the other hand, is entering into Turkey’s Mars-Ascendant square as it heads into the seventh house of open enemies. Pluto will square natal Mars on October 30, a violent, revenge-oriented aspect that becomes the dominant influence over the coming month. Turkey’s military will likely be unusually aggressive over the coming week since transiting Mars will conjoin and activate Turkey’s progressed Mars in Sagittarius.
Turkey’s progressed Moon will conjoin natal Mars in February, an astrological vibration that tends to foster hostile confrontations and open conflicts beginning in January. In 2013 and 2014 transiting Uranus and Pluto will align with Turkey’s Pluto, assuring that the Syrian border problem won’t go away anytime soon. Currently, transiting Saturn is heading toward Turkey’s Sun, suggesting that the national leaders are seriously weighing their isolation, responsibilities, and difficult options.
Miguel Cabrera, Triple Crown Winner
For the first time since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967, a baseball player led the leagues in home runs, batting average and runs-batted-in. Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers secured the coveted Triple Crown by batting .330 with 139 RBIs, and capturing the home run derby just last week with 44. Cabrera has over 100 RBIs in each of the last nine seasons.
Cabrera was born with a Sun-Vesta conjunction in forceful Aries (April 18, 1983; Maracay, Venezuela; time unknown), a determined combination that pushes hard to be the best, to be number one. The Sun’s aggressiveness is amplified by a wide conjunction to Mars, and given tremendous obstacles (opponents) to overcome by an opposition to a Saturn-Pluto conjunction. Mars is closely quincunx a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, which adds daring and extraordinary reaction speed.
Cabrera started his baseball career in the Florida Marlins farm system and was making steady, but normal progress until late 2002 when he suddenly started hitting at an astonishing pace. At that turning point, his progressed Mercury was turning retrograde just as his progressed Mars
conjoined it. Evidently, he had mastered timing and power with that rare alignment. In June 2003 he was called up to the majors and helped the Marlins win the 2003 World Series.
Currently, Cabrera is experiencing his Saturn Return. Although his Sun-Saturn-Pluto polarity has gotten him into some intense arguments and fights, it also describes the athlete’s path filled with opponents, which he has overcome day-by-day, year after year. Mars by secondary progression is at 0º Gemini and being squared by transiting Neptune. For those with the talent and discipline, this Mars-Neptune influence can put an athlete “in-the-zone”, where he fulfills the collective’s need for a super-hero.
