re: NewsScope - Appreciate your topics -- "Int'l Day of Peace, women, and Ms. Middleton" ... and reading your take on these items of concern and interest. On the International Day of Peace chart: Since Pluto is 25 degrees of Libra in the 8th house, does that mean the United States will be able to "hang in there" and help bring about this sorely needed peace in the "world community" one of these days -- at long last? ... Plus, I've long thought that Ms. Middleton was a sweet young woman -- now it looks like we can see it in her birth chart too. All the best from Alaska (hoping we have no more candidates for POTUS coming out of Alaska for quite some time ...)

some time and I am amazed at your wisdom and balance in this time of chaos and confusion. The astrological community is so polarized at one
end that does not see the light at the other end. They demand to be recognized as the scientist, yet do not understand that you have to prove your are worthy. I stopped going to they conventions since I do not feel I am excepted since I am different. Keep doing good work and be brave being different too !
re: election - Your article about using the Inaugeration Day chart instead of the Election Day chart was very interesting. My personal feeling about the election is that it doesn't matter who wins. My concern is-- will the person elected bring forth the changes to strengthen our country? What do the next 4 years look like in the US chart? Have you written any articles on the future of our country, regarding China, the Middle East or our economy?
A. I haven't written any articles yet, but have mentioned the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square that aligns with the U.S. Sun-Saturn in 2014 and 2015. This looks like trouble and whoever is president will certainly have their hands full maintaining a vibrant economy and smooth relations in foreign policy.

A. No, it's my speculation that LeAnn Rimes and Patsy Cline are the same soul. LeAnn's first hit Blue was actually written for Patsy Cline, but she died in a 1963 plane crash before she could record it. Then LeAnn Rimes arrived in 1982, connected with Patsy Cline's manager, and he gave her that song. LeAnn's and Patsy's voices sound very similar, almost indistinguishable from each other. LeeAn went on to sing all Patsy's top hits.
re: Scorpio Rising and house systems - I notice you use the Placidus house system. What are the pros and cons of this system versus the Koch Houses? Your Scorpio Rising chart, plus your ongoing interpretations using this chart, is converting me. Maybe I'll also convert to the Placidus houses. Please elucidate your thinking on this.
A. I'm glad you're seeing the benefits of the U.S. Scorpio Rising chart. It's not really my chart, since it was first rectified by Marc Penfield, but I've done my best to promote it.
As for the Placidus v. Koch house systems, the main thing here is that each rests on the same angles, that is, they have the same Ascendant and Midheaven. The other house cusps are derived by trisecting these angles by space or by time, with the spatial division corresponding to the Placidus system. I've noticed repeatedly that when the house cusps change signs because of these trisection methods, that the Placidus system holds true when interpreting a chart, and not so much in the Koch system. Those who use the Koch system say that's because the temporal division relates more to the spiritual or perhaps psychological side, while the Placidus refers to the material plane. Although the difference is minor, since 80 percent of astrologers use Placidus and I'm communicating with a diverse audience, I prefer the common denominator here.
re: Medicare and Hillary - I'll be 64 on my next birthday -- Nov. 6! -- and have been a freelancer for the last 30 years, always buying my own health insurance. I can't wait till I get to Medicare age and can save all that money I spend on health insurance, and be free of the crazies you get from too much choice. But that's all in jeopardy? Give me some HOPE! What are Hilary's prospects in 2016, or will she even run?
A. Transiting Pluto will trine the Medicare Moon, Uranus and Pluto over the next few years, so I think the benefits will be fine. No, I don't think Hillary will run in 2016.
re: Uranus-Pluto - How long is the uranus-pluto square in effect?
A. There are seven UR-PL squares between June 2012 and March 2015. The current one is the 2nd, and is exact this month (September 2012). The effective range is 4-5 years for the collection of UR-PL squares, but for people with planets at 6-7 degrees of cardinal signs, the influence is on and off for a year, and strongest right now.
re: political bias - It would be really nice if you would admit you are right leaning. Obama will win in 2012 because the libertarians are really angry and they will probably be spoilers for Romney. But Romney has no chance as he has alienated every voting bloc but the old white duffers!
A. It's too bad people use astrology to prove their political point of view. I prefer to use astrology to determine outcomes, not validate my personal politics. My main interest here is to promote the craft of astrology. If you have any astrological reasons why my forecast is in error, please let me know.

re: Iran - I heard from very reliable sources that plans are on the way to attack Iran and possibly just before the election for Obama to win. Any insights on wether this would be possible for Israel and the USA to attack Iran at this time?
A. Yes, this week's Top Five Astro-Events mentions just such a conflict, although without the conspiratorial overtone... Plus, the U.S. progressed Moon-Mars conjunction is shaping up, and could very welll be an indicator for war. Since it takes place in the 12th house, a proxy war like having Israel do the work is a real possibility.

Romney’s 47 Percent
Last week’s Gallup poll presented an odd synchronicity: with 47 days to go before the election, Romney and Obama were tied 47%-47%. And last Tuesday Mother Jones released the video of a Romney fundraiser where he made controversial remarks about the 47% of Americans who will never vote for him. Gallup aside, in the key battleground states, Obama is now pulling ahead.
Romney’s campaign is suffering from the most devastating effects of Neptune, which last week was exactly squaring his Gemini Ascendant. With Neptune shaping his dual Gemini personality, Americans don’t know who the real person is. Is he the one speaking to wealthy donors or the one who wants to help 100% of the people, as he re-framed the comments last week?
Neptune’s dissolving influence is long term and has made it difficult for voters to find Romney’s authentic, principled position. On September 12, Black Moon Lilith entered Gemini, and then last week crossed over his Gemini Ascendant, activating the concurrent Neptune square. Lilith is a troublemaker, and although Romney’s progressed Midheaven is very favorably trine his natal Pluto, it’s also entering into a square to his progressed Lilith at 11º Capricorn.
Recalling that Lilith is the one who wants to be treated equally, the faction of voters who feel Romney is ignoring them may be associated with Lilith, who in mythology was spurned and rejected. Voters don’t like to be rejected by their leaders. Romney has a lot of ground to make up by October 3 when the first presidential debate arrives. Neptune and Black Moon Lilith are receding in influence, and the martial influences are heating up. October will be an intense month.
October’s Top Five Astro-Events
1. Saturn enters Scorpio on the 6th and then trines Neptune on the 10th, providing an ideal six-day interval to go with the flow. Following your intuition leads to the development of a solid life path. Over the next 2 ½ years, Saturn in Scorpio may bring deep emotional and sexual satisfaction for those who work on partnership issues, while others may feel helplessly dependent or burdened by obsessions.
2. Jupiter and Saturn form a trioctile (135º aspect) on the 15th, a highly moralistic influence in effect from the 9th-19th. Find the balance between generosity and stinginess, trust and mistrust, and optimism and pessimism. Avoid self-righteous fundamentalists. For some, this Jupiter-Saturn phase may bring sadness or even depression. Expect surges of volatility and dramatic reversals in the stock market.
3. Mercury sextiles Venus on the 16th and 25th and is a steady influence between the 11th and 28th. This idealistic, highly romantic combination enhances all communications with family, friends and loved ones. Individuals with any sense of personal style will sparkle, while those working in the arts or fashion industries may advance now. In areas of conflict, diplomatic discussion can get to the root problem for resolution.
4. The U.S. progressed Moon-Mars conjunction is exact on the 14th, but a major geopolitical influence all month. This rare combination fosters an unusually harsh political climate, and increased incidents of violence and angry confrontations. In the U.S. 12th house of hidden activity, this astro-event may bring sabotage or terrorist activity and increased hostilities wherever U.S. troops are stationed. A significant military clash could disrupt the presidential campaign.
5. The Full Moon in the Scorpio/Taurus polarity arrives on the 29th with some bizarre scandal or surprising developments on the personal level, in business affairs, and/or along the campaign trail. The 28th-30th are power days, and may bring transformational experiences. However, with Mercury squaring Neptune at this time, don’t believe half of what you hear. The clear mind knows which half.
Lindsay Lohan’s Attitude
A reader asks, “Since Lindsay Lohan is in the news again, I was wondering what might be in her chart that keeps her from ’getting it’. She seems like she has no clue.” Yes, Lindsay was arrested again last week, for allegedly hitting a pedestrian and then leaving the scene of the accident. However, as TMZ* reports, the incident may have been a set-up.
Lindsay was born with her Cancer Sun opposite Neptune (July 2, 1986; New York, NY; time unknown), which establishes a potential problem area with drugs and alcohol, both personally and regarding her parents. Her mental attitude is shaped by her Mercury in self-absorbed
Leo, which squares Pluto and is quincunx Neptune. These outer planet modifiers tend to lock her into self-defeating illusions, which may be the case until her progressed Mercury turns direct in 2015.
Mars is in a challenging aspect to Saturn in ethical Sagittarius, which push her to test the limits of what is considered morally acceptable. One of the unusual facets in her chart is that Mars is “out-of-bounds”, which refers to the planet’s extreme declination. Mars OOB indicates actions that are beyond normal boundaries. Also, by secondary progression, Mars is only 2º from opposing her Cancer Sun, which adds to the defiant attitude.
Last week’s incident took place when transiting Uranus and Pluto were exactly square, so it could easily
become a major nuisance for Lindsay, even if she was the victim of a con. Uranus goes on to trine her progressed Sun in Leo, so she will likely get out of this mess. The real challenges come next year when transiting Uranus and Pluto align with her Sun and progressed Mars. This one-two punch could resuscitate her career, or drag her down to new lows. Much depends on her intentions.
