re: trioctile - You said in the Top Five Astro-Events Oct. 2012 that Jupiter and Saturn form a Trioctile... I was wondering if that Trioctile is the same as the Sesquisquare? Anyways... love your site... thanks.
A. yes, same thing - 165 degree aspect. And an octile is the same as a semisquare. I prefer the terms "octile" and "trioctile" because they're clearly aspects made by dividing the circle into eighths, while "sesquisquare" is such an archaic tongue-twister...
re: North Nodes & Chiron - With Obama's Chiron at 5 degrees of pisces in his 1st house (where it currently is by transit as well), is it that he one way or another - is his own undoing? The 15-year-old Freedom Fighter also has Chiron in the 1st. I hope to learn more about Chiron and the North node. Thanks so much for your articles. I eat them all up.
A. - Obama's Chiron Return is not an easy one since natally it's under stressful aspects to his Moon and Pluto. This in itself doesn't necessarily mean he will lose the election, but it doesn't help. As for Malala, the freedom fighter, her birth time is unknown, so we don't have the planets and North Node in the correct houses. A noon time is the default when time is unknown.

You are so very insightful in affirming (based on your astrology studies) that islamic extremism will only abate when women are empowered. So it has been for most religions, don't you think? re: Scorpio Rising - Long before I started reading your articles in Dell Horoscope magazine, I had always felt and assumed that Scorpio Rising was perfect to describe America because the motto on our Great Seal reveals it succinctly: Novus Ordo Seclorum---a New Order of the Ages. Indeed, America is all about order and control in the world as our hegemonic activities prove. Of course, the EAGLE symbol augments this! Sibley be damned!!!

re: Nobel Prize winners - Do you look at the transits, progressions, etc. for the moment when they receive the happy news from the Nobel committee, or for the moment when they actually receive the prize in Stockholm, Sweden? I would just want to look for the significators of great news about a great achievement and the public recognition that goes along with it.
A. Great news is often seen in great aspects to Mercury, planets in the third house, or the ruler of the third house. And when the career is involved or a sudden elevation in status, the Midheaven, ruler of the Midheaven, or planets in the 10th house will be favorably aspected. However, we can only know this if exact birth time is available. Jupiter's favorable aspect by transit is generally involved, since Jupiter is associated with honors. See Ben Affleck's chart in this week's column, for example.
re: ads - I realize advertisers pay for website ads in one shape or form and we all need income for our business. It is just that I was somewhat shocked to find an ad from the National Organization for Marriage on your site. I guess I would have expected it on many other sites which of course I won't patronize but again shocked to find it on yours. After finding this ad banner on your site and knowing the distortions and untruths this organization promulgates I will no longer be patronizing your site. Though maybe there is some logical explanation or reason that I am not aware of
for the ad being on your site and if so I would be interested to know that reason.
A. You're barking up the wrong tree. I do not have any ad agreement with National Organizastion for Marriage. If you saw such an ad on my site, it's because I do have google ads which post ads according to the visitor's web history. So look in the mirror to find out why you found that ad on my site. If you feel your web browsing history does not warrant such an ad, I can have it blocked. Just let me know. Personally, I have never seen this ad, and didn't know about it until you just told me.
re: Romney elected - Love your website & work... Just some food for thought here.... There are a few writings appearing at this point reflecting what Romney’s & his wife’s charts look in the future... hints of her being really unsettled... possible he won’t live a term putting Paul Ryan in the hot seat... I would be interesting to see your take on the long view if indeed Romney pulls it off... I have an uneasy feeling if Romney gets in things won’t be as he thinks in many area’s... any insight in a weekly review would be great...
A. My main concern at this point is Romney's progressed Mars, which at 27 Capricorn, is heading into a square with the U.S. Pluto. That's a very prominent war indicator. If he becomes the Commander-in-Chief, it likely won't be long before the U.S. is engaged in a major military conflict, and a potentially devastating one.
re: Black Moon Lilith - Thank you for covering the Black Moon Lilith in this week's NewScope.
I noted that you are using the "mean" setting for calculating the Black Moon Lilith in natal charts, and that in this week's NewScope you referenced "Sun conjunct Black Moon Lilith (orb <2 degrees)".
An Astrodienst Black Moon Lilith article refers to the "mean" node as only being "true" twice each month. I would appreciate any comments you might have regarding the accuracy of Black Moon Lilith calculations in individual natal charts, as there appears to be a wide orb of potential variance in any "mean" calculations as well as the "true" calculations with the exception of 2 specific dates and times each month.
A. Both the mean and true Black Moon Lilith positions are valid points. The mean position moves at a fairly consistent rate while the true position jumps forward and backwards, and occasionally can be over 30 degrees different from the mean position. I've been using the mean, but one will also find that the true apogee position resonates with this archetype whenever it's activated by major transit or progression. My colleague Divine Harmony has studied the difference between the two. She tells me: "the true is more appropriate to the wild, potent and naturally chaotic energy of the dark feminine - while the mean is how it gets civilized or NOT. Perhaps the mean when negatively expressed is how the person who has it represses it and the shadow comes out."
re: Black Moon Lilith - I've really enjoyed your election analysis and I found the article today very interesting. But what I couldn't tell was whether Black Moon Lilith changes your outcome, or do you still think Romney will win on Election Day?

Neptune and the Election
According to astrologers who predict Obama will be re-elected*, one of the main reasons is that transiting Neptune is squaring Romney’s Ascendant. This influence, they say, is so pernicious that it leads to deception, self-delusion, and confusion – and therefore he must lose. Would they be so convinced if they were completely objective? Are these predictions based on knowledge of the craft, or on their political persuasion?

Obama was born with his Leo Sun square Neptune, giving his persona a lifelong Neptunian flavor. Here, astrologers with an irrepressible Democratic bias say he protects the vulnerable, has sympathy for the middle class, and a vision for the future – all positive attributes of Neptune. What has been ignored are the negative Neptunian effects, namely, that he has compromised his core values and disillusioned those who elected him.
What astrologers tend to forget is that Obama ran his entire 2007-2008 campaign when transiting Neptune was conjunct his Aquarius Ascendant. His sway over the populace was mesmerizing, and he won based on Hope – the ultimate Neptunian quality. And don’t forget that Bill Clinton, with Neptune conjunct his Ascendant, is famous for saying “I still believe in a place called Hope”. And Ronald Reagan (Neptune square MC) spoke of America as “a beacon of hope on a shining hill…”.
As Liz Greene writes, “Neptune’s realm is a hall of mirrors.” It’s visionary and deceptive, hopeful and deluded. And it may very well bring chaos at key turning points. Many astrologers have noted that Mercury is turning retrograde on Election Day, and therefore voting irregularities may crop up. This is made even more likely by Neptune’s station a few days later, and that Mercury and Neptune are squaring each other. The candidates are heading into a photo finish.
Solar Eclipse Hits Ohio’s Neptune
Last week stories in several leading publications, including The Washington Post and The Atlantic, cast doubt on the reliability of electronic voting machines, especially in the key battleground state of Ohio.* In 2007, Ohio commissioned a team of computer scientists to evaluate the voting machines, and they concluded that “The systems uniformly failed to adequately address important threats against electronic data and processes.”
Neptune plays a central role in Ohio’s horoscope (March 1, 1803; 9:30 am; Chillicothe, OH), since it’s the planet that rules Ohio’s Sun-Pluto conjunction in Pisces. Located at 23º Scorpio, Neptune’s prominence is increased by a tight quincunx to Ohio’s Moon. Neptune’s influence over the citizenry (Moon) offers a psychic connection with the national trends, reminding us that no Republican president has ever won without winning Ohio.
Neptune also squares a retrograde Mercury, which resonates with the retrograde Mercury-Neptune square this coming Election Day, and suggests the possibility of voting irregularities. If the 9:30 am birth time is correct, then Ohio’s progressed Midheaven is now at 22º Leo, where it forms a square to natal Neptune. Ohio’s evolving importance in national affairs (the progressed Midheaven) is being adversely challenged by the potential for fraud, uncertainty, and inaccuracies (Neptune).
A total Solar Eclipse is coming on November 13 and takes place at 22º Scorpio – right on Ohio’s Neptune. We know that solar eclipses begin to influence events well ahead of the actual eclipse date. Astrologers differ on how much ahead, but at the very least, one month. We can expect that this Solar Eclipse will set off Ohio’s progressed Midheaven-Neptune configuration with dramatic consequences. Computer experts who monitor the voting machines are praying in vain: “Please let this election not be close.”
Queen Elizabeth II, A Bastion of Stability
Among the notables with important placements aligned with this coming eclipse is Queen Elizabeth II, who just finished celebrating her Diamond Jubilee: 60 years on the throne. Only one other British monarch has had a Diamond Jubilee and that was Queen Victoria in 1897. Royalists have praised QEII for being “a bastion of stability in an age of social and moral flux.”
Queen Elizabeth II was born with her Sun in steadfast Taurus (April 21, 1926; 2:40 am; London). With business-first Capricorn Rising, and Saturn, her chart’s ruling planet, placed at the Midheaven, Elizabeth is a natural leader. Her Saturn at 24º Scorpio is only two degrees away from the Solar Eclipse on November 13. This dynamic alignment might indicate that her reign will soon be over.
Prince Charles (November 14, 1948; 9:14 pm; London) has his Sun at 22º Scorpio – less than ½ degree from the Solar Eclipse. This single event will surely bring dramatic changes into his life. Prince William has Venus in Taurus and Prince Henry has a Moon-Ceres conjunction in Taurus – both opposite the eclipse degree. The eclipsing of their feminine Taurus planets might indicate a big change regarding Queen Elizabeth.
Looking at the 1801 U.K horoscope (January 1, 1801; 12:00 am; London), the Solar Eclipse aligns with natal Ceres at 23º Taurus, once again putting the spotlight on the reigning Taurus monarch. Transiting Pluto, representing the transition of power, will soon conjoin the U.K. Sun. If these markers are indeed pointing to a changing of the royal guard, we hope the transition will be a smooth one, as suggested by QEII’s progressed Sun trine Saturn. Perhaps retirement is in order.
