re: the candidates' solar returns - Have you compared Romney's and Obama's Solar Return Charts for 2012? Wouldn't this give a more accurate prediction for who will win the election than their transits on Inauguration day?
A. I don't think the technique of using Solar Returns has evolved to the point where it provides accurate, reliable information. The problem is that there is no agreement among astrologers about which location to use, whether that should be the birth place, current residence, or wherever one happens to be at the time of the return. Some astrologers also consider precession, which leaves six possible solar return charts to intepret. I may have what I think is a reliable technique, but it will only convince those who use the same technique. I recommend reading Lee Lehman's new book Classical Solar Returns for a critical look at the confusing mess the astrological community is in regarding the use of solar returns. This is why I rely on transits and secondary progressions since we have near unanimous agreement on the validity of these techniques.
re: Aurua shooting - Your piece on the USA horoscope and the Aurora massacre was excellent. Very smart. And yet another--as if we really need more--reason for adopting the Scorpio-rising chart for the US.... One other bit of news is about the Toronto mall shooting survivor--it happened in early June of this year--Jessica Ghawi was killed in Aurora. How bizarre. Of course, it's just a "coincidence." Yeah, right. I wonder what her horoscope looks like.
A. If anyone has her birth data, please send it in...
re: commodity prices - I read your posts on Newscope every Monday and follow this blog on a regular basis. You mentioned that sun and ceres conjunction in the coming year. Can I ask you when it will be exact???
A. The U.S. progressed Sun will be conjunct natal Ceres on August 7, 2013, so this connection gets stronger between now and then. The influence of this challenging connection to Ceres doesn't wane though, because the progressed Sun goes on to square Uranus, becoming exact on October 29, 2013. The price of corn, wheat, soybeans and other agricultural products may continue to rise even after that, sijnce transiting Neptune conjoins the U.S. Ceres beginning in 2015. Global warming is upon us, and the progressions and transits reflect the stress on the agricultural industry.
re: Condi Rice - How does Condi's chart look around the Inauguration? Thanks, as always, for your deep, fascinating work.
A. Her chart actually looks very good on Jan 20, 2013. The transiting North Node is right on her Midheaven, her progressed Mars is exactly trine her 6th house Uranus, her progressed Midheaven is sextile her Venus, transiting Uranus is precisely sextile her Ascendant. These measurements suggest a new start, a tremendous career boost. If she's not the VP choice, I suspect she'll at least get a key cabinet post.
re: inauguration date - In my studies of the Inauguration 2013 horoscope I've been using January 21 since January 20 falls on a Sunday (as was Reagan's 2nd Inauguration) so am wondering if the official 'noon' time Jan 20 is what should be used for the horoscope or the actual date the Oath of Office will be taken on Monday? Thanks for all your excellent work and for your book--I link to and cite your website and articles whenever I can!
A. Have a look at each candidate’s chart for January 20, 2013 (noon; Washington DC), which is the official time and date mandated by the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution when the president’s term begins. In 2013, January 20 happens to fall on a Sunday, and is the date and time used here. The Oath of Office will be given before noon on January 20. Then, the public ceremony will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013.
re: Romney win - I always respect your analyses. But honestly, this is one time I hope you're wrong, even thought I suspect you're right... Damn...
re: rectified charts - I'm disappointed that you use rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Anne Romney to justify your opinion that Romney will win. Rectified charts are no substitute for accurate birth data.
A. I totally agree that accurate birth data should be the basis for any solid forecast. Please notice that I rectified charts for Michelle Obama and Ann Romney before I concluded that Romney would win. The wives' charts are speculative, and clearly labeled as such. The June 4 NewsScope forecast of a Romney victory was my first analysis of the candidates' respective chances, which was inspired by the UAC panel's unanimous conclusion that Obama would win. If you want to criticize my forecast of a Romney win, look at what I said about his and Barack Obama's charts, not their wives' charts.
re: Katie Holmes divorce - Any astrological markers to the TomKat breakup, and/or the number 33, the age of all his wives when the got divorced?
Thanks for anything you can say about this in the Neptune Cafe blog.
re: Larry Ellison - in the 80's i lived a native style life on an undeveloped Hawaiian island for 7 years. There was an ancient kapu put on the island by the kahunas of old which was to protect the island from outsiders. and 2 or 3 millionaires could not beat our political fighting and certain natural happenings. Ellison is not a good person and plans to move the Hawaiians out for a typical luxe resort. but like my island the water supply is poisoned by 100 years or more of chemicals to produce the best pineapples. I never went to so many funerals in my life as I did on my island, most of it cancer of folks below 55. i would like to say that Oracle will steadily go down and now he has an ancient powerful curse on himself for buying lanai. at some point he has to implode and hopefully Hawaii will do him in as it has so many others.

Among the beneficial developments generated by the dynamic Uranus-Pluto square has been the Dawn mission to explore Vesta and Ceres. Launched on September 27, 2007 (7:34 am; Cape Canaveral, FL), Dawn is propelled by three xenon ion thrusters and powered by solar energy. While conventional spacecraft would take 2.5 tons of fuel to reach Vesta, Dawn needed only 927 pounds of xenon and has enough left to make the 900-million-mile loop to Ceres.

The Dawn Mission to Vesta and Ceres
Dawn’s horoscope features the Sun and Ascendant in the partnership sign of Libra, which reflects the vast cooperative effort needed to build the lightweight, high-tech craft. The angles are all at 7º and 8º of the cardinal signs, which have been activated this year by the first Uranus-Pluto square. Dawn arrived at Vesta on July 16, 2011 when the progressed Sun was exactly, to-the-minute conjunct the Ascendant.
One of the tightest aspects in this chart is the pioneering Moon in Aries trine exploratory Jupiter in the 3rd house, a configuration which in Star Trek terms might refer to going boldly forth into Earth’s neighborhood. On August 26, 2012 when Dawn leaves its orbit around Vesta, transiting Uranus will be exactly opposite the Ascendant (orb: 0º04’), a natural signature for separation. Dawn is scheduled to arrive at Ceres in February 2015, only a month before the final Uranus-Pluto square.
Coincidentally (!?!), transiting Ceres will be conjunct Pluto then as the two square Uranus, with all three of them aligning with the Dawn Moon. The Moon, as the ruler of the Cancer Midheaven, suggests that one of the unstated goals is to look for conditions similar to our home planet. Project manager Chris Russell says “we think we’re going to find a very water-rich protoplanet out there,” which raises the possibility that Ceres might harbor life.
Oscar Pistorius, Blade Runner
Although it took only 45.44 seconds to run the 400-meter heat, Oscar Pistorius has been fighting for years to compete at the Olympics. In 2007, studies indicated that the double-amputee’s carbon fiber blades gave him an unfair advantage, so he was barred from the 2008 Olympics. He fought the ruling, which was later reversed, but he didn’t quite make the team that year.
With his Sun in regenerative Scorpio square Mars (November 22, 1986; Johannesburg, South Africa; time unknown), Pistorius was born a fighter. The generational aspect of Chiron opposite Uranus is associated with his disability, perhaps because it’s angular in his chart, but also because it’s in the same degree area as his Lunar Nodes. The IAAF ruled against him on January 14, 2008 when his progressed Sun conjoined natal Uranus.
The decision was reversed on May 16, 2008 after he hired a lawyer and went to the U.S. to get more tests. At this time, transiting Uranus was squaring his natal Uranus. Pistorius has several beneficial placements that help him overcome the odds. Among them, a Mercury-Pluto conjunction gives him mental determination, and an exact Mercury-Jupiter trine brings unfailing optimism and sees the higher purpose of events.
Another factor is Ceres in Scorpio, which participates in a Yod formation with Chiron and the North Node. Ceres-Chiron aspects are often found in healer’s charts, especially when Pluto or Scorpio is involved. Currently, the Blade Runner is experiencing a progressed Mars-Jupiter conjunction, leading to this pinnacle of athleticism. Also, his progressed Ceres is conjunct his Sun, bringing him the ultimate healing both personally and in the eyes of the global audience. As he says, “You’re not disabled by the disabilities you have, you are able by the abilities you have.”
James Holmes, Updated Chart
Two weeks ago when NewsScope looked into James Holmes’ shooting rampage, the chief astrological factors that stood out were his Mars-Pluto conjunction, Black Moon Lilith, and Algol. Now that we have a birth time for him, these factors are even more distinct and unusual. And now we can see the importance of his 12th house and his karmic path.
James Holmes’ 9:04 pm birth time, gives him dramatic Leo Rising. His Sagittarius Sun (the ruler of the chart) trines the Ascendant as well as Jupiter in Aries, creating a highly creative, self-contained Fire Grand Trine. The Virgo Moon participates in a mutable Grand Cross, putting his emotional, feeling side under tremendous stress, especially since it’s conjunct the South Node and rules the 12th house of hidden psychological complexes.
Holmes’ powerful Mars-Pluto conjunction sits right on his 4th house cusp, where it dominates his chart by being angular. Eventually, with the emphasis on his Moon and 4th house, we will likely find out more about his volatile family dynamics and how they shaped his personality. While everyone has Black Moon Lilith somewhere in their chart, and most people manage it
well, Holmes’ BML resides in the 12th house where it forms a precise, deadly square to Mars.
The Mars-Pluto-BML configuration suggests the hidden rage lurking below his charming personality. Doubling up on the potential “evil” in his chart is his Part of Fortune at 26º Taurus. It’s exactly conjunct the evil star Algol, and prominently placed in his 10th house of reputation. The transiting BML was (and is) conjunct his Fortuna. Transiting Jupiter, Uranus and Chiron were all aspecting his progressed Midheaven, giving him the need to do something really spectacular. Mercury turned retrograde right on his BML a few days before he went berserk.
