re: women kidnapped- I’m sure you’re getting piles of e-mails, asking for insight into this horrific occurrence. I imagine you’ll do a horoscope for Ariel Castro. But he’s in custody and the legal system will take care of him. I’m concerned about these women. I’m most concerned for Michelle Knight, as it appears there is estrangement from the little family she has.

re: Gwyneth Paltrow - I love Gwyneth Paltrow. You did not mentioned her Mars Pluto conjunction. I am a Scorpion married to a Libran, who has Mars Pluto conjunction at Leo, at midheaven. People, find a place to hide when Mars and Pluto explode beneath the Venus facade. Expect to see Gwyneth at more violent / action movies. Venus is more beautiful when Mars the beast is channelled positively.

re: drought - I read your blog regularly religiously as it is informative and educating. I live in heartland and I remember your writing last summer that it will be very difficult and those transits will remain in effect till this late this summer also due to lilith. Would you please be kind enough to refresh this prediction if possible because last year's drought here was extremely unbearable and it was extremely disheartening to farmers. So if time permits would you again enlighten us with your astrological thinking about heat and drought in heartland of America.

re: Amanda Knox - I really enjoyed your new page about the Amanda Knox case--excellent work! I do have a question, though--at the very end, you suggest that the hard work for Amanda started when Uranus retrograded right square her Saturn and pr Saturn, but still minutes away. I've often wondered about these spare minutes--Saturn retrograded just minutes before conjuncting my Neptune a few months back (actually, looking at the chart now, it was 1 degree 14 mins...)
My tendency is to say there is no actual effect if there is not actual connection, and well, minutes are still minutes. But it sounds like you feel differently--if so, within how many minutes, or even degrees do you feel a transiting aspect must be to actually create an effect in a retrograde like this? What's your experience with this? The Knox case certainly seems proof. A. Every case is different, but a natal planet doesn't operate in isolation. Consider the progressed planets, and faster moving transits, like the Sun or Mars, or even the Moon, to carry the connection from the transit to the natal planet. This is known as the "translation of the light" in traditional astrology.
In Amanda's case, transiting Uranus turned retrograde while only 0º03’ from her progressed Saturn. The closeness of that station in itself suggests major life events unfolding. That's pretty much as close to a direct hit as one can get.re: Zendaya - I always enjoy your weekly column. I'm wondering if a birthtime of about 11:15 AM might be right for Zendaya Coleman? A. Hmmm... maybe so. It's an interesting concept that Disney girls have a prominent Lilith. I did a quick check and noticed that Britney Spears has her Sagittarius Sun conjunct Lilith and Annette Funicello has Lilith conjunct her Cancer Ascendant.

Jupiter and Big Government
Last week the head of the IRS was ousted for targeting conservative groups like the Tea Party. President Obama noted that “it shouldn’t matter what political stripe you’re from,” and that “the IRS has to act with absolute integrity.” The scandal fed into Americans’ mistrust of Big Government, especially since the IRS will be collecting the information to implement the colossal Obamacare program.
The 8th house is generally associated with taxes, and in the U.S. national horoscope, Jupiter there is prominently placed by its trine to the Scorpio Ascendant. Jupiter is the planet that we associate with everything that’s large, and notably, Big Government. On February 3, 1913, the 16th Amendment was ratified, giving Congress the power to levy an income tax. At the time, transiting Jupiter opposed the U.S. Jupiter, allowing the U.S. government to dramatically expand its role.
The U.S. Jupiter is currently of interest because its position at 5º is being activated by transiting Saturn and Neptune. Saturn is now retrograde at 6º Scorpio and Neptune is at 5º Pisces, which creates a Grand Trine with the U.S. Jupiter. This configuration gets tighter over the coming months as the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) edges toward its mandated start date.
On June 26, Jupiter enters Cancer, and then on July 22, the U.S. has a Jupiter Return. This event takes place every 12 years, but this year it has the support of transiting Saturn and Neptune, ensuring that Big Government is just getting bigger and bigger. With the radical Uranus-Pluto square aligning with the U.S. Sun next year, we can be sure that this trend will be politically, perhaps even violently, contested.
Jupiter and Market Tops
Why do financial analysts say “Sell in May and go away”?* The fact that the transiting Sun opposes the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant around May 1 denotes a plausible inflection point, but another cycle has been in play over the last three years. Using the DJIA, mid-year tops were hit on April 26, 2010, May 1, 2011, and May 1, 2012. Of course this year, the proverb is off the mark.
Jupiter Changes Angelina Jolie’s Life
Last Tuesday (May 14) in a New York Times op-ed piece*, Angelina Jolie revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy to radically reduce her chances of getting breast cancer. Recent advances in reconstructive surgery have made this operation virtually undetectable, but she wanted to let women know what their options are, that it’s not easy, but that it can save your life.
Ms. Jolie was born with Jupiter in pioneering Aries right on her Midheaven (June 4, 1975; 9:09 am; Los Angeles, CA), which is challenged by a square to Saturn. This configuration has made her a beacon of hope and optimism (Jupiter) in the face of adversity (Saturn). When she began the six weeks of surgery on February 2, 2013, transiting Pluto in the 6th house of health was squaring her natal Mars, which is a natural signature for radical surgery.
Also during the procedures, transiting Saturn was opposing her Ceres, and this heavy transit pinpointed the main reason for taking the elective surgery. Ceres represents her role as a mother and is also a symbol for her own mother, who died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56. She wanted to be around long-term for her own children, and Saturn presented her with the difficult options.
During the surgeries, transiting Neptune was opposing her progressed Venus in the 2nd house of self-worth, which must have given rise to doubts about her femininity. But when she completed the surgeries in April, Jupiter was conjunct her Gemini Sun. Jupiter brought a philosophical, uplifting message: “I do not feel any less of a woman. I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity.”
Or is it? Comparing the astrological charts for those three dates, a common factor turns up, and that’s Jupiter’s position at 20º to 22º of its sign. Expansive, optimistic Jupiter takes about one year to advance from one sign to the next, and when it arrives in this degree area, it reaches its peak stimulation. Then Jupiter runs out of fuel, and the U.S. stock markets tend to reverse.
A look at the U.S. national horoscope tells us why this pattern has been so strong. In the Scorpio Rising chart, Pisces is on the cusp of the 5th, the house associated with the speculative nature of the stock markets. This makes Neptune the ruler of the U.S. stock markets, and its position at 22º Virgo squares Mars at 21º Gemini. Mars is the co-ruler of the Scorpio Ascendant, and in the 8th house of capitalism, it represents the nation’s industrial base, its corporatocracy.
The U.S. Mars-Neptune square makes the 20º to 22º degree area highly sensitive to outer planet transits. Currently, transiting Jupiter is at 21º Gemini where it conjoins the U.S. Mars. Considering that we have a concurrent Uranus-Pluto square, this week looks like it will bring an end to the current record-breaking market surge. Perhaps a geopolitical crisis will turn the markets sour. Or, since the Fed’s money-printing policy (QE3) is behind the recent upward trend, news about this policy’s conclusion may trigger the reversal.
