re: guns and Lilith - Had a chill go up my spine when the breaking news of the LAX shooting hit today. I had just read the article this morning on Neptunecafe relating BML to guns in the USA Scorpio rising chart. Caused me to check the tri-wheel for the US chart and sure enough the transiting Moon is on the progressed Mean Black Moon Lilith at 15 Libra. Wow!
re: top five - First the 4th U-P square on the 1st, then the eclipse on the 3rd, then Merc going direct trine Neptune: Does this bode well for the ACA (Obamacare) going through a difficult transformation, and coming out much more positively later in the month, much as the administration is saying? I hope so. I know too many people who need reliable health coverage for this to fail. As always, great info on your site.
re: Obamacare - Our President and country are headed for more dysfunction over the next 15 months. Is Affordable Health Care ever going to succeed? Other than being the first black president, will Obama ultimately be considered a great president?
re: Scorpio Rising - The latest development in the embarrassing scandal concerning the close Allies of the USA , has to be a text-book happening between Uranus and Pluto. It also supports your belief , that the USA has a Scorpio Ascendent. Love reading your stuff, you are the Best.
re: graphics - Love reading your column every Monday morning. It's quite informative and well written. I was wondering how you make the horoscope graphics for your columns. If you could let me know where I could obtain software that re-creates images like these that would be great. Thanks very much! Keep up the great work!
A. I use SolarFire to create the charts, and then fine-tune those and add some artistic touches with some very simple graphics software, so it's a combination.
re: neptunecafe - I really like reading and thinking about your articles; they offer the best information on the internet. Recently I read about the asteroid Juno. Please help me understand it better in my chart.
A. Juno and Venus are both about relationships. Juno is more interested in forming a long term commitment than Venus, while Venus is interested in sex, romance, and intimacy. If Venus and Juno are harmoniously aspected in your chart, you can marry for love, otherwise commitments may suffer from wandering affections. You can get a full description of your natal Juno and the other three major asteroids (Ceres, Vesta, and Pallas) by ordering an Asteroid Goddess Report.
re: Rahm Emanuel - Take a look at Rahm Emanuel's chart. He says he is running for re-election in February 2015. He has to file petitions at the end of 2014. How does his chart look for re-election?

re: Tea Party - The current articles at NeptuneCafe are more indicative of a well written article with less COMMENTARY compared to other articles around the net that had me so dismayed---until you get to the Tea party nasty-ass comments. As a former upstate (Communist state of) New York Tea Party Founder and Leader during the 2010 mid-terms, I have to wonder how many Tea Party people like myself you may know. If you met me in person, would you hate me and call me the kinds of things you call the Tea Party?
re: Tea Party - I have gone searching for astrologers who do political astrology...but have been sorely disappointed so far because of the liberal/progressives being so hateful towards anything that they don't like which is usually anything about FREE MARKET CAPITALISM, Freedom, Constitutional, etc. They are all for SOCIAL JUSTICE which has a communist history of its own.

re: Ted Cruz - The stellium of 8th house planets (3 of them in Scorpio, natural ruler of the 8th house) can indicate he would do well with and for other people's money. But can it also lead to life-threatening plots against him? Cruz does have 1st house chiron (which I find to be a little worrisome) opposed 7th house of open enemies Uranus but it is not quite in orb.
Yes Sun Pluto can have a 'fascination' with power. But Cruz' 'fascination with power' may indicate his ability to work successfully with power and his 7th house/Libra placement of planets shows indomitable ability towards discernment and fairness - and holding the line.
I suspect that balancing the budget and refusing the debt ceiling will be next on his list - which might upset a lot of people who want the 'free' goodies to continue, caring not what debt they straddle future generations with - but we will see.
A. Please note that Cruz's birth time is unknown, and so I use 12 noon by default. This means we don't know which houses his various planets fall in...
re: NewsScope slant - why is it that there are no really fair astrologers out there anywhere??? I was hoping you were different. the leftist slant on EVERTHING is such a disappointment. You have good insight astrologically but then wreck it by inserting your hatred of conservatives.
A. I know, it's really difficult. I go the same reaction from Democrats when I forecast that Romney would win.
re: slant - I really enjoy your site and send the link to many people frequently. You would be a person I would trust on the astrology of the US and how it will probably be consumed for the next 100 or so years under socialists/communists /progressives----but only IF you would write it with NO SLANT whatsoever. You are better than the rest, that is certain. As a metaphysical conservative - I am an anomaly. But, I still think that there is an answer someplace within astrology for why this is happening.... hoping you will go in depth at some point SOON on what our future may hold as foretold by the heavens.

re: Miley Cyrus data - Love your Neptune Café blog.... What is your source for that Miley Cyrus' birthday? Astrodatabank has 6:37 am, but it looks like a solar rising chart to me. Their source is some comment on facebook.

re: geodetics - One can correlate the zodiac with areas on the planet, which is called geodetic astrology. Zero degres Aries runs through Greenwich and the signs advance east from there. So Washington DC would have 12 degrees Capricorn at the MC. It would be interesting to to see you taking a position on this, with reasons.
A. I just read a book which definitively proves that the 0 degrees Aries meridian goes through Jerusalem. It's called Astrogeographia by Robert Powell. The thing is, I'm already involved with so many controversial stances (Scorpio Rising US chart, asteroids and Lilith), that I don't feel up to deciphering the geodetic puzzle. National charts work very well, so for the time being I'll stick with those.
re: royal baby - Thanks for your very interesting Newscope articles -- I always like your topics. I hope someone will be interested in doing the Royal baby's chart---I didn't think it would quite be a Leo - it isn't, right?
A. If George were born 32 minutes later, he would be a Leo. Many astrologers have written good profiles on the young prince, so I'll pass on this story. But I hope you enjoy the Royal Succession angle.

re: Newcomers - I want to thank you for your "Newcomers" page. I've been introducing some friends to astrology and this page will be very helpful to them. I'm pleased, too, that my library includes several of the recommended books. I may pick them up and re-read them as a good review!

The American Oil Boom
Since 2011, oil production in the U.S. has increased 30%, due largely to improvements in drilling technology. Combining hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) with the application of horizontal wells from a single underground point has led to vast increases in the estimate of recoverable shale oil. North Dakota’s Bakken formation is especially productive, with reserve estimates recently increasing 25-fold from the 1995 figure.
Astrologically, the boom corresponds to two major outer planet cycles: the shape-shifting Uranus-Pluto square, and the entrance of Neptune into Pisces. While the Arab Spring dominated the news when Uranus first entered Aries in 2011, six major oil basins in the domestic United States were experiencing their own “awakenings”. The technological breakthroughs associated with Uranus-Pluto are sparking the quantum leap toward energy independence.
Neptune, the natural ruler of oil, gained strength when it entered its own sign of Pisces in April 2011, which was when news began to circulate that the U.S. was having an oil renaissance and needed workers. Economic refugees began flooding into Texas and North Dakota, which now have the lowest unemployment rates in the nation and per capita incomes higher than Silicon Valley. In the Scorpio Rising U.S. chart, Neptune is transiting the 4th house of domestic conditions, shaping the boom according to its nature.
Transiting Neptune is forming a Water Grand Trine with the U.S. Venus and Jupiter in early Cancer and progressed Saturn in early Scorpio. Astrologers often refer to the benefit of Grand Trines as promoting self-sufficiency. With transiting Neptune favorably aspecting Venus-Jupiter, the oil wealth has proved immeasurably abundant. Transiting Neptune’s trine to productive, efficient progressed Saturn makes it all happen. Small wonder politicians aren’t talking about the connection between global warming and the burning of fossil fuels.
North Dakota Breaks Out of the Pack
Although fracking technology has been around since the 1980s, drilling laterally from one or two miles underground is a more recent development. In late 2009, an oil company working in North Dakota’s Bakken formation* split a single lateral leg into 25 legs, each of which was separately fracked. This breakthrough made it possible to reach vast quantities of oil from a single drill rig.
North Dakota’s horoscope (November 2, 1889; 2:40 pm; Bismarck, ND) has several tight connections with the U.S. national horoscope, notably the Aquarius Ascendant which is only one degree from the U.S. Aquarius Moon. A transiting Jupiter-Neptune conjunction landed on ND’s Ascendant in late 2009 when the multi-leg fracking technique was developed. Simultaneously, ND’s progressed Sun was at 12º Pisces where it conjoined the natal Pisces Moon, and the boom was on.
North Dakota’s Neptune-Pluto conjunction squares Saturn in Virgo, a set-up that promises periodic and dramatic restructuring. This configuration occupies the critical degrees that have been and will continue to be activated by transiting Neptune in Pisces. Also, ND’s
progressed Mars is currently at 2º Sagittarius, where it opposes natal Neptune-Pluto and squares natal Saturn. This progressed Mars provides the aggressive development that is re-shaping North Dakota, without regard to the environmental consequences.
North Dakota’s Venus is another key planet since it’s exactly conjunct the U.S. Saturn and in line with next year’s transiting Uranus-Pluto square. When the multi-leg fracking technique kicked off the oil boom in 2010, ND’s progressed Midheaven opposed natal Venus. ND’s many connections to the U.S. chart indicate that its spectacular transformation influences the entire nation. Most importantly, ND’s Sun-Juno conjunction in Scorpio coincides with the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, making it the lead state in the national quest for energy independence.

The World’s Most Powerful Person
Last week Forbes magazine came out with its annual list of the world’s most powerful people, and surprisingly, Vladimir Putin topped the list, replacing Barack Obama, who fell to the #2 spot. The Russian president is also reputed to be the world’s wealthiest man, worth some $40 to $70 billion due to his hidden control of Russia’s oil and gas monopolies, namely Surgutneftegaz and Gazprom.
Putin* was born with his Libra Sun conjunct Saturn and Neptune (October 7, 1952; 9:30 am; Petrograd, RU), a signature that naturally finds personal power (Sun) through the control (Saturn) of the oil business (Neptune). With Scorpio Rising, Pluto is the ruler of his chart. Its placement at his Midheaven confirms a dominating leadership position. Pluto’s conjunction with Black Moon Lilith infers a master of intrigue, knowing how to manipulate the unseen levers of power.
The real test for Putin came in 2003 when his progressed Mars was squaring his Ascendant. The challenge came from oil billionaire Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who claimed Russian politics were marred by corruption. Putin had him arrested on charges of fraud and tax evasion, and on December 19, 2004 auctioned off his Yukos oil properties to pay for back taxes. The winning bid came from a group secretly controlled by Putin himself.
The astrological indicators at the time of the auction suggest Putin had achieved total control: his progressed Midheaven was conjunct his Sun, and transiting Pluto trined his tenth house Pluto. Another peak in Putin’s status is taking place right now: his progressed Moon is exactly conjunct his Midheaven, perhaps indicating that he is proud of his #1 billing from Forbes. Watch for fireworks next year when the transiting Uranus-Pluto square aligns with Putin's Sun as Kodorkovsky is released from prison.
