"The natal chart is like a seed and progressions are the unfolding in time of that into the plant it is to become. Transits, are like a daily weather report. In political astrology, these three factors have to be taken into account!"

re: Israel - You said Israel's progressed moon is at TWELVE DEGREES CAPRICORN????!!!! Isn't that where transiting Pluto is right now? geesh... Couldn't you squeak that in there somehow? It just seems noteworthy. I know how much rage I felt when my progressed Moon was conjunct transiting Pluto a few years ago.

A. Yes, you're absolutely correct. Actually, there are quite a few items I could have added to the narrative, but I try to avoid getting too much astrologese in. Anyway, I'm glad you noticed.

re: Elizabeth Warren - Glad you brought up Elizabeth Warren and her possible presidential run but really, do you have to join the Anybody But Hillary Bandwagon? I have yet to understand the hostility which both right and left wing pundits seem to hold towards her. It is not a product of her political actions but seems personal and malicious. I know of no other politician who has such critical, and pointless, scrutiny of her every action. You could at least try to maintain a veneer of civility towards her.

re: Elizabeth Warren - You didn't mention how much of a damned LIAR Elizabeth Warren is and how she lied to get freebies by saying she is a Cherokee.... It has been proven that her ancestors actually helped to massacre the native americans.... i really wish you would be a little more fair and stop showing your desire for socialism to destroy the country.

re: First Trade charts - I know you have written some things about first trade charts in your NewsScope column, but they seem contradictory. For YHOO you use 9:30 AM even though Michael Munkasey's Companies Database has 9:48 AM. For FB you used 11:30 AM. For BIDU you used 11:40 AM. Do you mostly use the actual time of the trade? Why one instead of the other? Have you tried researching the issue with many stocks? The problem with making predictions with FT charts is their complexity. Not only do you have to look at the natal chart, but both the P2 and P3 charts.

A. Your observations on FT charts are on target. I've been studying these charts for at least three years, but not until I got Munkasey's database did I realize that so many FTs are not set for 9:30 am. I analyzed YHOO and wrote about before I got his database, but have been using 9:48 since then. It's a real challenge to understand how the transits and P2 and P3 charts interact, but worth the effort. When the same message appears on all three levels, you get a strong indication of a big move and the direction.

re: Hillary and Neptune - You wrote about the physically weakening influence of Hillary's upcoming Neptune transits, but isn't it the case that Americans do kinda like Neptunian leaders? Isn't it also the case that she can come across as being too tyrannical? Couldn't Neptune softening her be a benefit...make her more appealing?

A. Yes, Neptune softens, and may have other effects. A prominent Neptune may be associated with deception, poor advice from her lieutenants, misinformation, and most likely, promising more than she can keep.

Reader feedback

re: Cuba - As of this week, we are revisiting our Cuban relationship with the USA. Do you believe this is tied to the Eclipse in the 60’s coming full circle (54 year eclipse cycle)? Does this also tie into the current T-Pluto opposition to the US-N-Sun – (bypassing Congress)?

A. I don't know about the eclipses, could be... But it's certainly related to transiting Pluto opposite the U.S. Sun. Obama's historic arrangement was expressed as an Executive Order. It remains up to Congress to lift the economic embargo that's been in place since the early 1960s.

re: Paul Revere - Thank you for your Paul Revere story in the 12/15 NewsScope. I have always wished I was there on 4/18/75, hey, maybe I was. Interesting, the 3/20/15 and 9/27/15 eclipses fall on his Mars and Moon, will keep watch on the news then.

re: Emancipation Proclamation - This week's Neptune Cafe is outstanding. Thank you for looking at the big picture for the rest of us. Having a way to understand and hold the intensity of the world is so valuable.

re: Emancipation Proclamation - I agree that race is the prime issue going on here however it's the issue of race plus police enforcement which is the main focus. Without analyzing that, you're still not getting to the heart of the problem. It seems to me that the role of the state police departments around America have been quite different from that of western European countries.

A. Yes, you're correct, the police have become militarized due to mega-funding of Homeland Security. I did allude to that in the first paragraph of the third article, but it could surely use a more in depth discussion as Pluto in Capricorn opposes the U.S. Sun.

re: Emancipation Proclamation - What I have learned about Black Moon Lilith is that it mainly has to do with a drive for freedom and human dignity. When I look at the EP chart for the date of Obama's election, I see that transiting Pluto exactly opposed the EP Black Moon Lilith. When I look at the current progressed EP chart, I see that progressed BML opposes the EP Mercury, which creates a dialog about how to treat black people.
If you look at Martin Luther King's natal chart, he has Jupiter sesquiquadrate (135d) to Black Moon (orb 0d 09m). The interpretation for anyone with this aspect is:
"You can be creative, versatile, brilliant, and prolific. You could excel at anything that requires a high level of mental functioning. You are probably more analytical and perceptive than are your peers. You like to keep changing, trying to do new things. Depending on your field, your ideas can be seen as radical or revolutionary. You function better as an individual than you do as part of a team, although you can be well complemented by more practical or business-oriented partners. You can be an inspiration or influential teacher to the younger generation."

A. This letter is from astrologer John Halloran. Visit his website at www.halloran.com to find out more about Lilith in aspect to the planets. Yes, Lilith is all over the EP chart.

Regulus - In November's astro-event #5 you said that around November 22 there would be news about celebrities and royalty because Lilith was conjuncting the royal asteroid Regulus. I notice that Marilyn Monroe has her natal Lilith at 29 Leo and she has been in the news lately because of her letters being auctioned. So it was spot on in regards to Marilyn who is American royalty. And the news came out that William and Kate are heading to New York soon.

re: Bill Cosby - I would also add that transiting Saturn in Scorpio has passed over his Mars in Scorpio in the 7th and now transiting the 8th house has also brought all those 8th house hidden sexual/rape/criminal activities to light in a big KARMIC way.... I’ll leave black moon Lilith out of the equation because my ex-husband has Venus in Gemini, and I know just how much men with this placement think that the grass (the girl) is greener on the other side because they can’t make up their mind who they love or why until they’ve lost it! FICKLE FICKLE FICKLE! And remember what they say in Astrology: SATURN is KARMA.

re: Jessica Alba - She is most impressive. You didn't say anything about Ceres in her chart. I wonder if it's also relevant.

A. Ceres trines Uranus, which is angular and near the 4th house cusp. She's revolutionizing home life, with special attention to baby products.

re: Scott Walker - When doing Scott Walkers chart wouldn't you do a relocation chart from Colorado to Wisconsin instead?

A. It's certainly possible to look at a politician's chart relocated to his current residence, but that depends on having an accurate birth time. For Scott Walker, his birth time is unknown, so we don't know his Ascendant or Midheaven, and relocating the chart won't change that unknown.

re: Princess Charlotte - She has an interesting chart...I wonder, could this little one become a Legal Eagle or Judge one day!?! ;)

A. Yes, the strong, elevated Pluto and Libra planets do indicate that as a real possibility.

re: Stephen Collins - As an astrologer I have been watching the alleged fall from grace of actor Stephen Collins (10/1/1947). Is this something (child molestation) in his chart or is this part of the drama from his current divorce with wife Faye Grant (7/16/1957)? He's a fine actor and I'm sad to see this surface. Will this get resolved or change his reputation/life forever?

re: NCAA upsets - Should I just attribute all the NCAA football upsets on Saturday to Mercury turning retrograde? I don't remember ever seeing so many upsets happening together on one weekend like that. There must have been some general cosmic influence. Do you have a theory about that?

A. Ideally, one would check the NCAA chart, but the Lunar Eclipse aligned with the U.S. Sun-squ-Saturn which in itself can mean an upset of the status quo. Notice the simultaneous major upsets (extreme volatility) in the stock market as well.

re: Neptune - In your discussion of transiting Neptune and the U.S. Ceres, I was surprised you never discussed water and farming at all. I've heard that some in California want to break the state up into 4 states to govern water because of the drought.

A. Yes, you've spotted another manifestation of this dynamic, and there will certainly be more. Keep your eyes peeled and let me know what else you find.

re: Teddy Roosevelt We've been enjoying the PBS series on the Roosevelts too. Another aspect of Teddy's life that is very sad, but causes one to question the role of fate, is that he lost his first wife and mother on the same day. I have to wonder what the astrological factors behind that were. Also, did this loss have anything to do with his Uranus in the 12th house in Gemini (etc.)? This is the kind of biographical information, along with the story about him getting wounded yet surviving, that makes one wonder about the "fated" aspects in such a famous/history shaping person's life.

A. The date this coincidence happened was February 14, 1884. Transiting Saturn was in fact conjunct his 12th house Uranus at the time, suggesting the duality, difficulty and surprising nature of this loss. However, there were quite a few other major transits and progressions taking place at the same time. Especially relevant is that the preceding Solar Eclipse on October 30, 1883 took place on his Scorpio Sun and was activated by transiting Mars when his wife and mother died 3 1/2 months later.

re: Susan Miller - Gee, that's terrible--Susan Miller's fans getting angry at her for being sick. I receive 3 or 4 Astro-Newsletters. Whenever the Astrologers complain of being "stressed out," I email them telling them to "take a break!" from our receiving Newsletters--"We'll live" I tell them. Who are these people to complain about Susan?!

re: Susan Miller - That was a nice shout-out in support of Susan Miller. I've seen some of the comments on-line and they are shameful.

re: Rob Ford - We were told by the lead doctor at a news conference yesterday at 5:00 that Rob Ford has malignant liposarcoma--essentially cancer of the fat. It's metastasized to his left buttock. They'll figure out how to proceed based on how he responds to the chemo. As an astrologer, does this surprise you?

Jeb Bush and the Saturn Cycle

One of astrologers’ most popular techniques for judging a candidate’s chances of winning an election is the Saturn cycle, as described by Grant Lewi in his classic book Astrology for the Millions. If transiting Saturn is rising toward the Midheaven, the politician is gaining in power and more likely to win. And when transiting Saturn is below the horizon, a loss is likely.

When Jeb Bush (February 11, 1953; 8:50 pm; Midland, TX) first ran for Governor of Florida in 1994, transiting Saturn was in his 6th house, just below the horizon. He narrowly lost then, but in 1998 he ran again. This time transiting Saturn was in his 8th house and heading for his Midheaven. He won his re-election bid in 2002 in a relative landslide when transiting Saturn was in his 10th house, and very near the Midheaven.

As transiting Saturn entered his 12th house in 2007, Jeb left office and tried his hand at various business ventures. Now, as he’s preparing for a presidential run in 2016, transiting Saturn is in what Lewi called the “obscure sector”. It’s generally characterized by withdrawal from life, with ambitions frequently met with setbacks. With the exception of JFK in 1960, no candidate in the modern era has won an election when transiting Saturn is in the obscure sector.
The JFK exception is instructional when we look to see why he did win. His progressed Midheaven at 5º Virgo was empowered by a conjunction from transiting Pluto. Plus his progressed Sun was 4º from his MC. In 2016, Jeb Bush has several activations of his 10th house, including a very favorable progressed Ceres conjunct his Midheaven. Oddly enough, in Hillary Clinton’s chart, transiting Saturn is also in the obscure sector.
Top Five Astro-Events for January

1. The Full Moon on the 4th (EST, 5th PST) activates the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square, promising stunning new developments, severe weather events, technological breakthroughs, and major corporate mergers and buy-outs. The action-oriented Cardinal Grand Cross (including the North Node) favors taking bold steps toward co-creating a better future. Expect much resistance where isolated mindsets and cultures block overall integration. New Year’s resolutions that break bad habits are favored.

2. The 7th and final Uranus-Pluto square will be exact in March, but this dynamic is a powerful geopolitical influence now since both planets are aligned with the U.S. Sun. Pluto opposite the U.S. Sun manifests as Obama issuing executive orders, while Uranus squaring the Sun brings domestic and international crises. From the 4th to 10th we might expect the most disruptions, including major winter storms, when Mars hits the UR-PL midpoint.

3. Neptune opposes Black Moon Lilith on the 20th, but is an influence all month. Expect an eerie sense of foreboding, of hidden influences shaping manifest events. Those with their Sun or other prominent placement in the first few degrees of the mutable signs may feel strangely disconnected. For those with a metaphysical sense of vibrations, be ready for visitations, visions, and magic. Meditate on your third eye.

4. Mars enters Pisces on the 12th, energizing spiritual warriors through February 20th when it enters Aries. The 12th to 20th is the most dangerous or self-defeating phase since Mars squares Saturn and then conjoins Neptune. Geopolitically, marginal oil companies face insolvency, and we can expect coastal disasters. Work to overcome dependencies and false beliefs. Recreational activities involving water are favored, as are music and art.

5. Mercury turns retrograde on the 21st in Aquarius. Mercury is exalted in Aquarius and is making very few challenging aspects during its three week retrograde phase. However, the usual caveats to avoid signing contracts and mend technological devices still goes. Mercury’s main challenge is an opposition to Juno, which means juggling friendship with partnership needs. How does your loose social circle mesh with your personal commitments?
Alexander Gerst and the Blue Dot Mission

Taurus is said to be a personal sign, interested in financial security, a stable home life and a predictable professional life. But when Taurus planets are configured with the outer planets, the concerns become transpersonal. For example, the first Earth Day on April 21, 1970 was celebrated when four planets in Taurus were each aspecting one or more outer planets.
Last week European astronaut Alexander Gerst (May 3, 1976; Kunzelsau, Germany; time unknown) released a spectacular six-minute film* made of time lapse photos taken from the International Space Station (ISS). With his Taurus Sun conjunct Jupiter, Gerst naturally seeks to understand the Big Picture. His Sun also conjoins Pallas, which bestows a keen visual sense. And with his Sun closely quincunx Neptune, he turns to photography to express his creativity.

"Seen from a distance, our planet is just a blue dot, a fragile spaceship for humankind," he says. Gerst’s Jupiter is aligned with Uranus, a combination known for its farsightedness and progressive optimism. The Jupiter-Uranus connection evokes the 1968 Earth Rise photos taken by astronaut William Anders on the Apollo 8 mission when Jupiter and Uranus were conjunct.
Gerst has a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Cancer, and from traditional astrological lore, both are said to be poorly placed here. They’re too defensive, sentimental, and indirect. Yet when the essential nature is tuned to the collective, Mars and Saturn here become the necessary tools for universal co-existence and co-creation. Mars and Saturn were previously conjunct in Cancer in 1945 when the United Nations was established. Gerst’s scientific mind expresses it this way: "We need to understand the universe we live in to protect our home."
