re: astrology rising - Actually, I don't "believe" in Astrology! I tell people: "It is not a Religion. It is not something to 'believe' in." It is simply Plane Geometry -- the study of repetitive geometrical patterns. Particular patterns will repeat themselves, often with the same results. That is where we, Astrologers, get our predictions from.
re: America's plutocracy - I'm struck by the sudden blockbuster best seller "Capital in the 21st Century" by Thomas Piketty. As an exposition of our current economic situation and trending direction, could this book be major force for change?
re: Susan Miller - Interesting to see Susan's chart. I used to work for her, and have met her in person as well a couple of times. Yes, she is one of the hardest working astrologers out there. She told me that she has a keen interest in how words work together, and she had very definite views of how to craft a sentence. For example, she also said to never use 'ing' in a sentence

re: Wal-Mart - Thanks so much for all you do. I especially enjoyed the Wal-Mart story. Wal-Mart is a major contemporary symbol of the US psychic landscape, at least for the common people of the US. I note the perfect conjunction between Wal-Mart's natal Mars and the USA's natal Pluto (and ruling planet). What do you think of that?
A. Yes, that's a major connection. The U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet, describes the power of corporate America, and Wal-Mart is a major manifestation of that, a corporate warrior, if you will.
re: Wal-Mart - Wal-Mart's Saturn is also being eclipsed by the Solar Eclipse on the 28th. And its opposing its Sun as well. I don't think eclipses to Saturn are viewed as beneficial.
re: Colbert - I love Stephen Colbert! In his case, we can see how Saturn rewards hard work. You get what you deserve with Saturn. What he started 14 years ago has reached full flower and will now transition into something new.
re: America's plutocracy - I especially love your last line in the "Rise of America's Plutocracy" post. Yes, that and more. At least a few of us have noticed... It looks like the April 15 "Blood Moon" will be one degree off of both my Sun in Aries, and Moon in Libra. I'm thinking about staying "under the covers," but that doesn't seem to be what your advice is.
re: America's plutocracy - It's turning out more Brave New World than 1984 in some ways... I am constantly shocked by how much pharma my American friends ingest... and it's happening here too in the UK. The only thing that has put the brakes on it is the NHS, and that's not for a good reason, but simply because the government is cheapskate.... Yes -- Pluto is winning the Uranus-Pluto square at the moment...

re: MH370 - Just wanted to share a few comments & questions about the current mystery regarding the missing plane from some fellow astrologers. Like you, we feel that hidden hands set this in motion and that the plane is most likely not in the ocean but landed & hidden for now in another country pending some future action. We have been following the moon in the departure chart to watch the revelations & false starts to current hunt in south Indian sea under the recent Scorpio moon 12th house of that chart then into Sag... high hopes dashed back to square one for the hunt.
So our questions to you... when do you think the world will start searching on land... who do you think will solve this & how long do you feel this could drag on.. lastly we feel not so good about the outcome for the passengers long term... do you agree?
A. The technique of making forecasts about developments in the case based on the transits to the Departure chart is solid. For example, the last communication at 1:30 am happened as the Moon in Gemini reached the Descendant. I suspect transiting Saturn's square to Mercury relates to bad news about the prospects.
re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!
re: Grace and Nicole - Even though Nicole Kidman does have a Scorpio rising, its her Gemini Sun which I feel more, so I agree she doesn't have that deeper sensual vibe thing going on like Grace did.

re: Marianne Williamson - Since I recently relocated for good in Rīga, being of dual citizenship and in retirement, I had not heard of Ms Williamson's foray into politics! As always, appreciate your nuanced and yet objective way of doing a reading. Having read a lot of New Age authors, possibly starting with numerous writings by Williamson, I'll be anticipating paying attention to summer developments. It's sort of like a grand experiment, to see if self-actualization translates, somewhat literally, into earthly success...and in politics. Also appreciate the tape with the Oprah interview.
It might just have hit the right note with me, as I return to the land of my birth. Only 1/3 of those exiled by WWII have done so, I recently heard on a Latvian current events channel. That's more than I presumed would return. And certainly, not growing up in a Latvian-American community, I hardly thought that I'd be returning. That's why Williamson's own vision, as you've captured it, is of such interest to me. Seems to point to a Providence, you know? Thanks for an illuminating article.

Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.

re: First Trade charts - I know you have written some things about first trade charts in your NewsScope column, but they seem contradictory. For YHOO you use 9:30 AM even though Michael Munkasey's Companies Database has 9:48 AM. For FB you used 11:30 AM. For BIDU you used 11:40 AM. Do you mostly use the actual time of the trade? Why one instead of the other? Have you tried researching the issue with many stocks? The problem with making predictions with FT charts is their complexity. Not only do you have to look at the natal chart, but both the P2 and P3 charts.
A. Your observations on FT charts are on target. I've been studying these charts ofr at least three years, but not until I got Munkasey's database did I realize that so many FTs are not set for 9:30 am. I analyzed YHOO and wrote about before I got his database, but have been using 9:48 since then. It's a real challenge to understand how the transits and P2 and P3 charts interact, but worth the effort. When the same message appears on all three levels, you get a strong indication of a big move and the direction.
re: Hillary and Neptune - You wrote about the physically weakening influence of Hillary's upcoming Neptune transits, but isn't it the case that Americans do kinda like Neptunian leaders? Isn't it also the case that she can come across as being too tyrannical? Couldn't Neptune softening her be a benefit...make her more appealing?
A. Yes, Neptune softens, and may have other effects. A prominent Neptune may be associated with deception, poor advice from her lieutenants, misinformation, and most likely, promising more than she can keep.
re: Donald Sterling - Your evaluation of Donald Sterling is outstanding. I live here in Southern California and have been glued to the coverage of Sterling and the Clippers since the news broke. Underscoring the generational and cultural impacts of Sterling’s Pluto in Cancer era makes the analysis more meaningful. We can we can “see” Sterling through his own historical lens and thus comprehend the origins of his belief system more readily. Too many astrologers neglect the importance of this.

World Refugee Day
Last Friday the United Nations released an unsettling report stating that for the first time more than 50 million people are refugees or internally displaced within their own countries. Timed to coincide with the annual World Refugee Day on June 20, the report noted that the huge increase over the previous year was mainly driven by the conflict in Syria and other war-torn areas.
The UN established World Refugee Day on December 4, 2000 (New York, NY; time unknown) when the Sun in the wandering, seeking sign of Sagittarius was exactly conjunct Pluto. The Sun-Pluto dynamic expresses the urgency of the refugee crisis, and the desire to transform conditions in a healthy way. The Moon in a political horoscope often represents the common people and their security needs: in pitiful Pisces and afflicted by Mars, the Moon is lost due to military conflict.
Due to the nature of the problem, Ceres, the caretaking asteroid, becomes an important player in this chart. Ceres conjoins Mercury and opposes Jupiter, which highlights Ceres’ caretaking function through communication of heartbreaking facts (Mercury) and the publishing of trends (Jupiter). Ceres is also sextile a Lilith-Neptune conjunction, which describes her interest in borderless problem areas.
Mars squaring the North Node in Cancer signifies the underlying fateful dynamic: military conflicts are displacing the primary need for domestic security. Last Friday when the new refugee numbers were aired, transiting Uranus was exactly squaring this chart’s North Node (orb: 0º06’). At the same time, transiting Saturn was squaring natal Uranus, sending a double “wake up” message. The transiting, epochal Uranus-Pluto square is heading into hard aspects with natal Mars, ensuring that the refugee problem will get much worse over the coming years.
July’s Top Five Astro-Events
1. Ceres forms a trioctile (135º) to Neptune, exact on the 7th but in effect during the first two weeks of July. These two in combination are about spiritual nurturing, reaching out to lost souls, and focusing on practices and beliefs that heal and regenerate the psyche. Normally a soft combination, Mars is with Ceres, which favors energetic practices in partnership with others, such as yoga, tai chi, massage, and dance.
2. The Full Moon on the 12th activates the Cancer/Capricorn polarity, emphasizing family interactions and places of work which may be influenced by family dynamics. Recreational activities, vacations involving travel, and sharing meals with loved ones are favored. Issues involving authority may arise, or significant interactions between the generations. A Mars-Ceres conjunction aligns with Spica at this time, marking an excellent time for a lavish feast.
3. Jupiter enters Leo on the 16th where it remains for the next 13 months. Those with their Sun, Moon or Ascendant in Leo can expect an increase in opportunities, a surge in confidence, and a renewed sense of well-being. Jupiter here may foster an increase in gold prices, and a reinstated interest in monarchies. Look for an increase in grand gestures, big plans, and amazing generosity.
4. Saturn turns direct on the 20th at 16º Scorpio, a degree which is highly in focus since Uranus and Lilith are at 16º in Aries and 16º Leo, respectively. Those with natal placements at 15º - 17º of any sign will be experiencing significant life changes this month according to the nature of the planet involved. Expect major developments in American foreign policy since the U.S. Midheaven is at 16º Leo.
5. The New Moon on the 26th conjoins Jupiter, and highlights events and people that will be newsmakers over the coming year. Expect a rise in religious fundamentalism since Mars is entering intense Scorpio on this date and squaring Jupiter. Jupiter in Leo has a dark side, and that’s the conviction of religious superiority. Many members of patriarchal religions gain a sense of arrogant self-righteousness that fosters territorial and political conflict.
Howard Schultz, Coffee King
Last week Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks, kicked off his company’s College Achievement Plan* in partnership with Arizona State University, which will provide full tuition reimbursement for any of its 135,000 employees. The generous plan follows Congress’s inability to back a student loan refinance program, and is only the latest example of Schultz’s leadership role as a pioneering, responsible corporate citizen.
With his Cancer Sun energized by a conjunction with Mars and Uranus (July 19, 1953; Brooklyn, NY; time unknown), Schultz has the competitive drive to achieve success in the business world. This triple conjunction helped him excel at sports and brought him an athletic scholarship to college. Later, he bought the Seattle Supersonics and then sold them to an Oklahoma City ownership group. The team relocated and became the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Schultz’s Sun squares a Saturn-Neptune conjunction, a combination that attempts to bring his vision (Neptune) into the manifest world (Saturn). It’s a constant, life-long struggle that would turn many into embittered, hardened souls. But Schultz has some astrological helpers, including a generous Venus-Jupiter conjunction. This lucky pairing falls in Gemini, giving him a fondness for communicating his message: to build a company with values, guiding principles, and culture.

Schultz’s Cancer Sun is also sextile to Black Moon Lilith, giving him full access to the seamy side of life, and a conscious desire to improve conditions. Starbucks was the first company in America to offer comprehensive health insurance and employee-ownership in the form of stock options. With transiting Jupiter heading into a conjunction with his Sun over the next two weeks, he’s bound to get plenty of recognition and honors. He may even get some praise from his Seattle neighbors who are still peeved that he sold the Supersonics to Oklahoma.
