re: astrology rising - Actually, I don't "believe" in Astrology! I tell people: "It is not a Religion. It is not something to 'believe' in." It is simply Plane Geometry -- the study of repetitive geometrical patterns. Particular patterns will repeat themselves, often with the same results. That is where we, Astrologers, get our predictions from.
re: America's plutocracy - I'm struck by the sudden blockbuster best seller "Capital in the 21st Century" by Thomas Piketty. As an exposition of our current economic situation and trending direction, could this book be major force for change?
re: Susan Miller - Interesting to see Susan's chart. I used to work for her, and have met her in person as well a couple of times. Yes, she is one of the hardest working astrologers out there. She told me that she has a keen interest in how words work together, and she had very definite views of how to craft a sentence. For example, she also said to never use 'ing' in a sentence

re: Wal-Mart - Thanks so much for all you do. I especially enjoyed the Wal-Mart story. Wal-Mart is a major contemporary symbol of the US psychic landscape, at least for the common people of the US. I note the perfect conjunction between Wal-Mart's natal Mars and the USA's natal Pluto (and ruling planet). What do you think of that?
A. Yes, that's a major connection. The U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet, describes the power of corporate America, and Wal-Mart is a major manifestation of that, a corporate warrior, if you will.
re: Wal-Mart - Wal-Mart's Saturn is also being eclipsed by the Solar Eclipse on the 28th. And its opposing its Sun as well. I don't think eclipses to Saturn are viewed as beneficial.
re: Colbert - I love Stephen Colbert! In his case, we can see how Saturn rewards hard work. You get what you deserve with Saturn. What he started 14 years ago has reached full flower and will now transition into something new.
re: America's plutocracy - I especially love your last line in the "Rise of America's Plutocracy" post. Yes, that and more. At least a few of us have noticed... It looks like the April 15 "Blood Moon" will be one degree off of both my Sun in Aries, and Moon in Libra. I'm thinking about staying "under the covers," but that doesn't seem to be what your advice is.
re: America's plutocracy - It's turning out more Brave New World than 1984 in some ways... I am constantly shocked by how much pharma my American friends ingest... and it's happening here too in the UK. The only thing that has put the brakes on it is the NHS, and that's not for a good reason, but simply because the government is cheapskate.... Yes -- Pluto is winning the Uranus-Pluto square at the moment...

re: MH370 - Just wanted to share a few comments & questions about the current mystery regarding the missing plane from some fellow astrologers. Like you, we feel that hidden hands set this in motion and that the plane is most likely not in the ocean but landed & hidden for now in another country pending some future action. We have been following the moon in the departure chart to watch the revelations & false starts to current hunt in south Indian sea under the recent Scorpio moon 12th house of that chart then into Sag... high hopes dashed back to square one for the hunt.
So our questions to you... when do you think the world will start searching on land... who do you think will solve this & how long do you feel this could drag on.. lastly we feel not so good about the outcome for the passengers long term... do you agree?
A. The technique of making forecasts about developments in the case based on the transits to the Departure chart is solid. For example, the last communication at 1:30 am happened as the Moon in Gemini reached the Descendant. I suspect transiting Saturn's square to Mercury relates to bad news about the prospects.
re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!
re: Grace and Nicole - Even though Nicole Kidman does have a Scorpio rising, its her Gemini Sun which I feel more, so I agree she doesn't have that deeper sensual vibe thing going on like Grace did.

re: Marianne Williamson - Since I recently relocated for good in Rīga, being of dual citizenship and in retirement, I had not heard of Ms Williamson's foray into politics! As always, appreciate your nuanced and yet objective way of doing a reading. Having read a lot of New Age authors, possibly starting with numerous writings by Williamson, I'll be anticipating paying attention to summer developments. It's sort of like a grand experiment, to see if self-actualization translates, somewhat literally, into earthly success...and in politics. Also appreciate the tape with the Oprah interview.
It might just have hit the right note with me, as I return to the land of my birth. Only 1/3 of those exiled by WWII have done so, I recently heard on a Latvian current events channel. That's more than I presumed would return. And certainly, not growing up in a Latvian-American community, I hardly thought that I'd be returning. That's why Williamson's own vision, as you've captured it, is of such interest to me. Seems to point to a Providence, you know? Thanks for an illuminating article.

Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.

re: First Trade charts - I know you have written some things about first trade charts in your NewsScope column, but they seem contradictory. For YHOO you use 9:30 AM even though Michael Munkasey's Companies Database has 9:48 AM. For FB you used 11:30 AM. For BIDU you used 11:40 AM. Do you mostly use the actual time of the trade? Why one instead of the other? Have you tried researching the issue with many stocks? The problem with making predictions with FT charts is their complexity. Not only do you have to look at the natal chart, but both the P2 and P3 charts.
A. Your observations on FT charts are on target. I've been studying these charts ofr at least three years, but not until I got Munkasey's database did I realize that so many FTs are not set for 9:30 am. I analyzed YHOO and wrote about before I got his database, but have been using 9:48 since then. It's a real challenge to understand how the transits and P2 and P3 charts interact, but worth the effort. When the same message appears on all three levels, you get a strong indication of a big move and the direction.
re: Hillary and Neptune - You wrote about the physically weakening influence of Hillary's upcoming Neptune transits, but isn't it the case that Americans do kinda like Neptunian leaders? Isn't it also the case that she can come across as being too tyrannical? Couldn't Neptune softening her be a benefit...make her more appealing?
A. Yes, Neptune softens, and may have other effects. A prominent Neptune may be associated with deception, poor advice from her lieutenants, misinformation, and most likely, promising more than she can keep.
re: Donald Sterling - Your evaluation of Donald Sterling is outstanding. I live here in Southern California and have been glued to the coverage of Sterling and the Clippers since the news broke. Underscoring the generational and cultural impacts of Sterling’s Pluto in Cancer era makes the analysis more meaningful. We can we can “see” Sterling through his own historical lens and thus comprehend the origins of his belief system more readily. Too many astrologers neglect the importance of this.

ISIS Seeks World Domination
Under the leadership of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the jihadist military group ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) has recently won a string of surprisingly swift victories and is now on the outskirts of Baghdad. Spilling over from the civil war in Syria, the ISIS militia threatens to destabilize the Iraqi government, and bring Iran and the U.S. back into the conflict.
Baghdadi announced the creation of ISIS on April 8, 2013* (nominally set for Aleppo, Syria; noon) in an audio tape released to his followers. The Sun-Mars conjunction in Aries describes the group as fiercely independent fighters. Venus is with the Sun and Mars, and gives ISIS popular appeal among Sunnis. Last week as transiting Jupiter squared this triple conjunction, ISIS took Mosul along with billions in gold to expand its influence.
The Sun and Mars are closely octile (45º) to Neptune in Pisces, reflecting how ISIS followers are religious militants inspired by holy war. A Mercury-Moon conjunction in Pisces squaring Black Moon Lilith in Gemini adds some highly imaginative, unrealistic or even deluded goals: the creation of a caliphate that spans Syria and Iraq, then the Muslim world, and ultimately dominates the entire planet.
Over the next 2-3 years, ISIS can be expected to be a major player in the region. By secondary progression, ISIS’s Sun will be conjoining natal Mars and Venus. Transiting Uranus will be entering this degree zone next year, tremendously animating its military forces. Of course, at the same time transiting Pluto in Capricorn will be squaring the ISIS Sun-Mars, stirring up the regional powers against them. One possibility is that Iraq devolves into Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish states. ISIS is the irrepressible driving wedge that is splitting Iraq.

Eric Cantor’s Surprise Defeat
With the epic Uranus-Pluto square aligning with the U.S. Sun, astrologers should expect some sudden shifts in power and surprising upsets. But Eric Cantor’s loss last week in Virginia’s Republican primary caught everyone off guard. Cantor, the #2 House Republican and most likely to become the next speaker, outspent his tea party opponent 21-1 and still lost. Pundits widely blame his over-confidence.
Cantor was born with his multi-tasking Gemini Sun sextile Jupiter (June 6, 1963; Richmond, VA; time unknown), and also sextile the political asteroid Pallas, creating harmonious connections between these three placements. The Sun-Jupiter-Pallas network combines vocal leadership (Sun in Gemini) with constructive self-assertion (Jupiter in Aries) and dramatic, creative political strategy (Pallas in Leo). It can also be the mark of over-confidence since winning comes so easily.
In general, Cantor is outgoing and optimistic due to his favorable Sun-Jupiter sextile, but with Mercury retrograde, he had more pressing things to think about than his presumed landslide victory. Neptune is associated with falling asleep, and it just turned retrograde at 7º Pisces.
If he was born anywhere around noon, transiting Neptune was squaring his Sagittarius Moon, a strong indicator for spaciness and escapist tendencies.
The clearest indicator of his surprise defeat was his progressed Sun squaring natal Black Moon Lilith, exact within ½ degree. Lilith aims to connect the ego with collective needs, and when this link is ignored, she brings tragedy and failure. Her message may very well be what Cantor’s opponent was saying, that he was closer to Wall Street than Main Street. Cantor may certainly find success as a big wheel in the lobbying industry.
The Subtext in Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent
Last week Angelina Jolie co-hosted the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, and in a follow-up interview, described how she slipped her message about rape into the blockbuster film Maleficent. Jolie’s Maleficent is drugged by King Stefan who then cuts her wings off. “We were very conscious, the writer and I, that this was a metaphor for rape,” said Jolie.
Angelina Jolie’s Gemini Sun forms a perfect square to Black Moon Lilith (June 4, 1975; 9:09 am; Los Angeles, CA), a celestial set-up that naturally attunes her to the dark side of life. Her Lilith is in Pisces, the sign associated with faith and victimization. These themes have played large roles in her life, including her own double mastectomy to ward off breast cancer. She began this operation as transiting Lilith conjoined her Sun in January 2013.
Her role as Maleficent is similarly a passionate embrace of the dark side, and a re-defining of the evil character as depicted in the 1959 classic Snow White. The horned Maleficent is endowed with motherly love and fights those who claim to represent the “Light”. Her screen opponents are thinly disguised Crusaders who
invoked Christ while destroying primitive cultures. Lilith in Pisces takes great pleasure in attacking hypocritical faiths.
Jolie’s Gemini Sun conjoins Juno, the marriage asteroid, so Lilith has a stressful influence over her partnership patterns. We recall that Jolie had little respect for Brad Pitt’s marriage with Jennifer Aniston, and now that she has him, she’s delaying his wish to get married. As Maleficent, she protects her forest with magic, another association of Black Moon Lilith. But her revenge for being betrayed by the king she trusted is hardly a feminist principle. This plotline reflects the uncertainty generated by her Juno-Lilith square.
