Winter Olympics - What with all the political unrest in the world, and certainly also around Sochi … how safe will it really be? Some believe that the perimeter is being “sealed/protected” very well, but that just outside this “ring of protection“ is where terrorist activity might take place. What do the stars have to say?
Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.
re: UR-PL square - I have been keeping a diary of the hits of the Uranus Pluto square and especially when it forms a cross with personal planets and during January, July, October, etc. It has indeed been wreaking havoc in millions of people’s lives. As far as our current Economy goes, I think you are right when you say that the Cancer Jupiter and Scorpio Saturn are supporting or upholding our current Markets and Business situation. However, when Jupiter goes into Leo and Squares Scorpio I think Business as usual and the Overinflated Market will begin to DEFLATE like a punctured Balloon. By the end of Obama’s Lame Duck Term, we may indeed go into another unwanted RECESSION. That is my take on all this. What do you think?
re: your writing - Your work, your writing seems very Virgo: very clear, very precise. You are also a fine writer, such a rare thing. But you feel that magic and it is there in your work if someone is subtle enough to notice it. Astrology is very lucky to have you: someone with so much integrity, precision, professionalism and someone who transmits that magic, although I suspect that is done unwittingly.
A. Thank-you. My Mercury is in Virgo. Much of the credit for having grammatically correct copy every week goes to my proofreader, Kathie Hornyak. She has four planets in Virgo, including her Sun, which makes her a stickler when it comes to using the right word or phrase.
re: Political Astrology - I recently mentioned your book "Political Astrology" on an astrology e-mail list. Unfortunately, your book is not only out of print, the copies that are available are ridiculously priced, one going for over $2000!

re: market collapse - I am a big fan of yours and I'm on your site almost daily...often Sunday nights waiting for midnight so I can read your Newscope articles. Last week I was sent a video by Joni Patry a Vedic Astrologer. Joni Patry is predicting the collapse of the world markets in January and she goes on to predict that 2014 will be the most significant year of our life times filled with wars, disasters, earthquakes etc. So I have always been questioning if Vedic astrologers have insights that are not available to western astrologers. Could you comment on this?
A. In the video, she explains that she's referring to April's Grand Cross between Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto. She also calls herself a "neo-Vedic astrologer" because she uses the outer planets and Vedic astrologers in general don't use them.So she's more of a western astrologer than Vedic, although she uses the sideral zodiac rather than the western tropical zodiac.
As for a market collapse, or other calamity, no one knows for sure, but it is indeed a signature for major disruption in one form or another. It's particularly relevant for the U.S. since the Grand Cross aligns with the U.S. Sun. NewsScope has been and will continue to feature the major celebrities, political players and national horoscopes being influenced by this Grand Cross.
In my view, adding the outer planets is only a small step toward deploying the most effective celestial bodies. The four major asteroids and Black Moon Lilith add gender balance to the horoscope, and reflect the Awakening Goddess archetypes that traditional astrology, and especially Vedic astrology, ignores.

re: guns and Lilith - Had a chill go up my spine when the breaking news of the LAX shooting hit today. I had just read the article this morning on Neptunecafe relating BML to guns in the USA Scorpio rising chart. Caused me to check the tri-wheel for the US chart and sure enough the transiting Moon is on the progressed Mean Black Moon Lilith at 15 Libra. Wow!
re: top five - First the 4th U-P square on the 1st, then the eclipse on the 3rd, then Merc going direct trine Neptune: Does this bode well for the ACA (Obamacare) going through a difficult transformation, and coming out much more positively later in the month, much as the administration is saying? I hope so. I know too many people who need reliable health coverage for this to fail. As always, great info on your site.

A. I use SolarFire to create the charts, and then fine-tune those and add some artistic touches with some very simple graphics software, so it's a combination.
re: neptunecafe - I really like reading and thinking about your articles; they offer the best information on the internet. Recently I read about the asteroid Juno. Please help me understand it better in my chart.
A. Juno and Venus are both about relationships. Juno is more interested in forming a long term commitment than Venus, while Venus is interested in sex, romance, and intimacy. If Venus and Juno are harmoniously aspected in your chart, you can marry for love, otherwise commitments may suffer from wandering affections. The Transformational Politics
of Marianne Williamson
What was Marianne Williamson thinking when she decided to challenge Henry Waxman for his congressional seat? Waxman has represented California’s elite 33rd District since 1974 and Williamson’s claim to fame is her New Age spirituality, not politics. Yet she felt called to transform American politics by applying enlightened principles. Surprisingly, last week Waxman announced he’s retiring, which suddenly makes Williamson’s bid more realistic.
Marianne Williamson was born with her Cancer Sun conjunct Venus (July 8, 1952; 3:53 am; Houston, TX) and aspecting four of the five outer planets, which in itself pushes her to dramatically influence the collective in some way. With Pisces on her Midheaven, Neptune becomes the most relevant outer planet. Its close square to her Sun-Venus infuses her personality and professional expression with the urge for transcendental (“miraculous”) experiences.
Williamson’s 3rd house is strongly emphasized. A Mercury-Lilith conjunction there squares Mars in Scorpio, which gives her an intense desire to communicate her understanding of life’s esoteric mysteries. She expresses this through her writing and lectures, and has had several New Age books on the New York Times best-seller list.
Also in the 3rd house is Pluto on the South Node and square Jupiter, the signature of the True Believer, a passionately religious personality. This 3rd house Pluto conjunct the South Node can indicate a charismatic priestess archetype, especially one who teaches about the power of personal transformation (in Leo).
The North Node in the networking sign of Aquarius is more about collective transformation. Transiting Saturn is now squaring her Lunar Node axis, testing her ability to shift her focus from personal to collective change. Her first hurdle arrives on June 3 (California’s primary) when transiting Neptune is exactly conjunct her Midheaven. That presents an overly idealistic, starry-eyed situation. But with transiting Saturn simultaneously trine her Sun-Venus, she has the organizational skills and financial resources to pull it off.
The Winter Olympics and Black Widows
A reader asks what the stars have to say about the potential for terrorist activity outside Sochi’s “ring of protection” during the Winter Olympics. American officials acknowledge that the resort city of Sochi is well secured, but a terrorist attack anywhere in Russia would spoil Putin’s dream of pulling off a glitch-free event. Russia’s horoscope (June 12, 1990; 1:45 pm; Moscow) provides insights into this possibility.
Natally, Russia has Mars strongly placed in Aries, which reflects its military strength and competitive spirit. The potential for terrorist activity is shown by the exact square to Uranus in the 4th house of domestic activity. Over the last several months, transiting Uranus has conjoined Russia’s Mars as beefed-up security teams dealt with a few isolated but serious threats. The activated natal Mars-Uranus configuration points to Sochi as being surrounded by radical and revolutionary extremists.
Russia’s progressed Mars is now at 25º Aries, a critical degree when considering terrorist threats. During the course of the Winter Games, between February 7 and 23, transiting Mars ranges from 24º to 27º Libra. In other words, it will be opposing Russia’s progressed Mars during this entire interval, a huge red flag that warns of enemy action.
Security forces are especially concerned about “black widow” terrorists, since women have played central roles in suicide bombings. Black Moon Lilith is the obvious carrier for this black widow archetype. Located at 24º Scorpio in Russia’s chart, Lilith forms hard aspects to the tense Mars-Uranus square, which provides the astrological association to the black widows. By transit, Lilith squares Russia’s progressed Mars and transiting Mars, marking black widows as a clear and present danger.
Amanda Knox Re-Convicted
Last Thursday Amanda Knox watched the guilty verdict handed down by the Italian appeals court on the internet from her Seattle home. Knox was initially found guilty of murdering her roommate while she was an exchange student living in Perugia, Italy. She spent four years in an Italian prison, but the decision was eventually overturned based on flawed DNA evidence. Now she’s convicted again.
Amanda Knox was born with Gemini Rising (July 9, 1987; 2:47 am; Seattle, WA), which makes Mercury the ruler of her chart. The surprising news arrived as transiting Uranus squared her Mercury, a classic signature for unexpected and shocking news. By secondary progression, her Midheaven is at 4º Pisces, which puts her fate in limbo since that point is being exactly hit by transiting Neptune.
As to whether or not Amanda and her boyfriend killed her roommate, Meredith Kercher, there’s no astrological evidence to support this. On November 1, 2007, the night of the grisly event, transiting Mars was at 11º Cancer, and not making any connections to Amanda’s horoscope. Nor were there any aspects involving her progressed Mars or progressions to her natal Mars.

With transiting Pluto opposing her Cancer Sun, she will most likely be pursued by the Italian justice system next year when the final appeals are upheld. Fortunately for her, transiting Jupiter will conjoin her progressed Sun in her 4th house of home and family. Over the next two years, she will find safety in Seattle and be protected by the American legal system as her progressed Sun goes on to trine natal Saturn in Sagittarius.
