re: Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.
re: UR-PL square - I have been keeping a diary of the hits of the Uranus Pluto square and especially when it forms a cross with personal planets and during January, July, October, etc. It has indeed been wreaking havoc in millions of people’s lives. As far as our current Economy goes, I think you are right when you say that the Cancer Jupiter and Scorpio Saturn are supporting or upholding our current Markets and Business situation. However, when Jupiter goes into Leo and Squares Scorpio I think Business as usual and the Overinflated Market will begin to DEFLATE like a punctured Balloon. By the end of Obama’s Lame Duck Term, we may indeed go into another unwanted RECESSION. That is my take on all this. What do you think?
re: your writing - Your work, your writing seems very Virgo: very clear, very precise. You are also a fine writer, such a rare thing. But you feel that magic and it is there in your work if someone is subtle enough to notice it. Astrology is very lucky to have you: someone with so much integrity, precision, professionalism and someone who transmits that magic, although I suspect that is done unwittingly.
A. Thank-you. My Mercury is in Virgo. Much of the credit for having grammatically correct copy every week goes to my proofreader, Kathie Hornyak. She has four planets in Virgo, including her Sun, which makes her a stickler when it comes to using the right word or phrase.
re: Political Astrology - I recently mentioned your book "Political Astrology" on an astrology e-mail list. Unfortunately, your book is not only out of print, the copies that are available are ridiculously priced, one going for over $2000!

re: market collapse - I am a big fan of yours and I'm on your site almost daily...often Sunday nights waiting for midnight so I can read your Newscope articles. Last week I was sent a video by Joni Patry a Vedic Astrologer. Joni Patry is predicting the collapse of the world markets in January and she goes on to predict that 2014 will be the most significant year of our life times filled with wars, disasters, earthquakes etc. So I have always been questioning if Vedic astrologers have insights that are not available to western astrologers. Could you comment on this?
A. In the video, she explains that she's referring to April's Grand Cross between Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto. She also calls herself a "neo-Vedic astrologer" because she uses the outer planets and Vedic astrologers in general don't use them.So she's more of a western astrologer than Vedic, although she uses the sideral zodiac rather than the western tropical zodiac.
As for a market collapse, or other calamity, no one knows for sure, but it is indeed a signature for major disruption in one form or another. It's particularly relevant for the U.S. since the Grand Cross aligns with the U.S. Sun. NewsScope has been and will continue to feature the major celebrities, political players and national horoscopes being influenced by this Grand Cross.
In my view, adding the outer planets is only a small step toward deploying the most effective celestial bodies. The four major asteroids and Black Moon Lilith add gender balance to the horoscope, and reflect the Awakening Goddess archetypes that traditional astrology, and especially Vedic astrology, ignores.

re: guns and Lilith - Had a chill go up my spine when the breaking news of the LAX shooting hit today. I had just read the article this morning on Neptunecafe relating BML to guns in the USA Scorpio rising chart. Caused me to check the tri-wheel for the US chart and sure enough the transiting Moon is on the progressed Mean Black Moon Lilith at 15 Libra. Wow!
re: top five - First the 4th U-P square on the 1st, then the eclipse on the 3rd, then Merc going direct trine Neptune: Does this bode well for the ACA (Obamacare) going through a difficult transformation, and coming out much more positively later in the month, much as the administration is saying? I hope so. I know too many people who need reliable health coverage for this to fail. As always, great info on your site.

A. I use SolarFire to create the charts, and then fine-tune those and add some artistic touches with some very simple graphics software, so it's a combination.
re: neptunecafe - I really like reading and thinking about your articles; they offer the best information on the internet. Recently I read about the asteroid Juno. Please help me understand it better in my chart.
A. Juno and Venus are both about relationships. Juno is more interested in forming a long term commitment than Venus, while Venus is interested in sex, romance, and intimacy. If Venus and Juno are harmoniously aspected in your chart, you can marry for love, otherwise commitments may suffer from wandering affections. You can get a full description of your natal Juno and the other three major asteroids (Ceres, Vesta, and Pallas) by ordering an Asteroid Goddess Report.

re: Tea Party - The current articles at NeptuneCafe are more indicative of a well written article with less COMMENTARY compared to other articles around the net that had me so dismayed---until you get to the Tea party nasty-ass comments. As a former upstate (Communist state of) New York Tea Party Founder and Leader during the 2010 mid-terms, I have to wonder how many Tea Party people like myself you may know. If you met me in person, would you hate me and call me the kinds of things you call the Tea Party?

Cyber Security in the New Age
Two of last week’s top news stories concerned cyber security: what to do about NSA’s surveillance programs, and the massive data breach at Target and at least six other un-named retailers. Developing issues tend to reach a peak around the Full Moon, but last week’s Full Moon was unusually intriguing since it was aligned with the U.S. Mercury-Pluto opposition, and it was conjunct Black Moon Lilith.
In any chart, Pluto can be considered a power point, but when Scorpio is on the Ascendant, Pluto becomes the horoscope’s ruling planet. In the U.S. Scorpio Rising chart, Pluto is located in the third house of communication, travel, and ideas. Pluto’s opposition to Mercury thus becomes a double theme, and represents the national pastime for debate, the interest in persuading, and complex networks of information.
In its extreme, the Mercury-Pluto opposition also represents an obsessive need to know everything about anyone who might threaten national security. In a much anticipated speech, President Obama clarified his position about NSA last Friday when the transiting Sun was exactly conjunct the U.S. Pluto. Around the same time, the Texas cyber security firm iSight reported that the malware responsible for the Target data breach was written by a 17-year-old Russian who probably sold it on the black market.
Astrologically, “black market” is code for Black Moon Lilith’s presence, which by transit was conjunct the U.S. Mercury. Lilith will oppose the U.S. Pluto on February 11, so between now and then we can anticipate more discussion and further developments on these stories. In the long run, transiting Uranus will be activating the U.S. Mercury-Pluto axis beginning in 2016. Transiting Pluto is heading into this same degree zone beginning in 2020. These outer planet hits will surely make cyber security a major issue of our times.
California’s Drought
Last Friday Governor Jerry Brown formally declared a drought emergency which will allow California to receive federal aid as it grapples with what will likely be the driest year in the state’s recorded history. For the third year in a row, water levels are down to a fraction of the norm as metropolitan areas compete with the agricultural industry for precious water resources.
California entered the Union during a Sun-Vesta conjunction in the industrious sign of Virgo (September 9, 1850; San Jose, CA; time unknown). The Sun’s closest aspect is an octile to Venus in Scorpio, which accounts for the pleasure-seeking side associated with the Golden State. The Sun also forms a quincunx (150º) to Saturn in Aries, a placement that classic astrologers associate with excess or problematic dryness.
The developing drought can be seen by progressing this chart: California has a progressed Ceres-Saturn conjunction in the hot and dry sign of Aries. Currently, progressed Ceres and Saturn are a little over one degree from being exact, but getting closer over the next four years. They become exact in September 2018, by which time we can expect that the full deprivation (Saturn) of California’s agricultural abundance (Ceres) will be evident, along with extraordinary wildfires.
Adding to the conundrum is transiting Uranus and Pluto aligning with the progressed Ceres-Saturn conjunction beginning this year. Transiting Uranus and Pluto tell us that this drought is shaping up to be a legitimate crisis, since California produces about half of the nation’s fruits, nuts and vegetables, and is the number one state in cash farm receipts. Governor Brown delayed declaring an emergency, as he hoped and prayed for rain. He finally took action when transiting Mars opposed the progressed Ceres-Saturn conjunction.
Francois Hollande’s
Complicated Love Life
Valerie Trierweiler became the designated First Lady when Francois Hollande was elected president in 2012 since she had been his “spousal equivalent” for the previous five years. But over the last week, rumors of an affair with actress Julie Gayet were substantiated when a photographer captured the two in a late night tryst. Hollande begged for privacy while he worked out his convoluted love life.
Francois Hollande* was born with a Sun-Pluto conjunction in Leo (August 12, 1954; 12:10 pm; Rouen, FR), which motivates him to seek out powerful positions in government. His Leo Sun is given a romantic side with an exact octile to the love planet Venus, but with Pluto’s involvement, his personal relationships have become entangled, complex, and scandalous. Just who exactly is France’s First Lady?
When it comes to committed relationships, Juno is the key archetype. Hollande’s Juno in Virgo represents a very traditional view of marriage, especially since it’s trine his staid Capricorn Moon. But his Juno also squares Vesta in dualistic Gemini, creating the potential for multiple affairs. Those with Gemini Rising also tend to juggle multiple relationships. By secondary progression, Juno is at 11º Libra, a position now being stressfully activated by the transiting Uranus-Pluto square.
Hollande said he would make up his mind by February 11, when he travels to Washington to meet President Obama and his First Lady. A fascinating complication is that his mistress Julie Gayet (b. June 3, 1972) is rumored to be pregnant. Ceres is the indicator to track for this situation, and the potential becomes real when we see that her Ceres conjoins his Sun-Pluto. Also, his progressed Ceres is conjunct (to the minute) his progressed Black Moon Lilith. That’s a surefire celestial signature for a shadowy pregnancy.
