re: astrology rising - Actually, I don't "believe" in Astrology! I tell people: "It is not a Religion. It is not something to 'believe' in." It is simply Plane Geometry -- the study of repetitive geometrical patterns. Particular patterns will repeat themselves, often with the same results. That is where we, Astrologers, get our predictions from.
re: America's plutocracy - I'm struck by the sudden blockbuster best seller "Capital in the 21st Century" by Thomas Piketty. As an exposition of our current economic situation and trending direction, could this book be major force for change?
re: Susan Miller - Interesting to see Susan's chart. I used to work for her, and have met her in person as well a couple of times. Yes, she is one of the hardest working astrologers out there. She told me that she has a keen interest in how words work together, and she had very definite views of how to craft a sentence. For example, she also said to never use 'ing' in a sentence

re: Wal-Mart - Thanks so much for all you do. I especially enjoyed the Wal-Mart story. Wal-Mart is a major contemporary symbol of the US psychic landscape, at least for the common people of the US. I note the perfect conjunction between Wal-Mart's natal Mars and the USA's natal Pluto (and ruling planet). What do you think of that?
A. Yes, that's a major connection. The U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet, describes the power of corporate America, and Wal-Mart is a major manifestation of that, a corporate warrior, if you will.
re: Wal-Mart - Wal-Mart's Saturn is also being eclipsed by the Solar Eclipse on the 28th. And its opposing its Sun as well. I don't think eclipses to Saturn are viewed as beneficial.
re: Colbert - I love Stephen Colbert! In his case, we can see how Saturn rewards hard work. You get what you deserve with Saturn. What he started 14 years ago has reached full flower and will now transition into something new.
re: America's plutocracy - I especially love your last line in the "Rise of America's Plutocracy" post. Yes, that and more. At least a few of us have noticed... It looks like the April 15 "Blood Moon" will be one degree off of both my Sun in Aries, and Moon in Libra. I'm thinking about staying "under the covers," but that doesn't seem to be what your advice is.
re: America's plutocracy - It's turning out more Brave New World than 1984 in some ways... I am constantly shocked by how much pharma my American friends ingest... and it's happening here too in the UK. The only thing that has put the brakes on it is the NHS, and that's not for a good reason, but simply because the government is cheapskate.... Yes -- Pluto is winning the Uranus-Pluto square at the moment...

re: MH370 - Just wanted to share a few comments & questions about the current mystery regarding the missing plane from some fellow astrologers. Like you, we feel that hidden hands set this in motion and that the plane is most likely not in the ocean but landed & hidden for now in another country pending some future action. We have been following the moon in the departure chart to watch the revelations & false starts to current hunt in south Indian sea under the recent Scorpio moon 12th house of that chart then into Sag... high hopes dashed back to square one for the hunt.
So our questions to you... when do you think the world will start searching on land... who do you think will solve this & how long do you feel this could drag on.. lastly we feel not so good about the outcome for the passengers long term... do you agree?
A. The technique of making forecasts about developments in the case based on the transits to the Departure chart is solid. For example, the last communication at 1:30 am happened as the Moon in Gemini reached the Descendant. I suspect transiting Saturn's square to Mercury relates to bad news about the prospects.
re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!
re: Grace and Nicole - Even though Nicole Kidman does have a Scorpio rising, its her Gemini Sun which I feel more, so I agree she doesn't have that deeper sensual vibe thing going on like Grace did.

re: Marianne Williamson - Since I recently relocated for good in Rīga, being of dual citizenship and in retirement, I had not heard of Ms Williamson's foray into politics! As always, appreciate your nuanced and yet objective way of doing a reading. Having read a lot of New Age authors, possibly starting with numerous writings by Williamson, I'll be anticipating paying attention to summer developments. It's sort of like a grand experiment, to see if self-actualization translates, somewhat literally, into earthly success...and in politics. Also appreciate the tape with the Oprah interview.
It might just have hit the right note with me, as I return to the land of my birth. Only 1/3 of those exiled by WWII have done so, I recently heard on a Latvian current events channel. That's more than I presumed would return. And certainly, not growing up in a Latvian-American community, I hardly thought that I'd be returning. That's why Williamson's own vision, as you've captured it, is of such interest to me. Seems to point to a Providence, you know? Thanks for an illuminating article.

Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.
re: your writing - Your work, your writing seems very Virgo: very clear, very precise. You are also a fine writer, such a rare thing. But you feel that magic and it is there in your work if someone is subtle enough to notice it. Astrology is very lucky to have you: someone with so much integrity, precision, professionalism and someone who transmits that magic, although I suspect that is done unwittingly.

re: Donald Sterling - Your evaluation of Donald Sterling is outstanding. I live here in Southern California and have been glued to the coverage of Sterling and the Clippers since the news broke. Underscoring the generational and cultural impacts of Sterling’s Pluto in Cancer era makes the analysis more meaningful. We can we can “see” Sterling through his own historical lens and thus comprehend the origins of his belief system more readily. Too many astrologers neglect the importance of this.

Mars in the Danger Zone
In Seattle, yet another school shooting shocked the nation only two weeks after a sexually frustrated student went on a rampage in Isla Vista, California. The May 23rd incident took place just after Mars turned direct, a danger point fully described in NewsScope’s May 5 edition. Mars is currently heading into the Uranus-Pluto square, providing plenty of celestial stress on the war planet.

This tri-wheel section shows the U.S. chart on the inner wheel, with progressions and transits on the middle and outer wheel. Mars transits through the 12th house June 24-August 9, 2014.
The current transit of Mars is particularly influential when comparing it to the U.S. horoscope, since it’s activating the natal Sun-Saturn square. Last week we looked at transiting Pluto’s opposition to the U.S. Sun, a major astro-event in itself since it implies the breaking down (Pluto) of American institutions (Sun-Saturn) such as the Veteran’s Administration. As Mars comes along, bringing violent events in its wake, we question the loose gun laws once again.
In the Scorpio Rising U.S. chart, progressed Mars is at 18º Libra and in the 12th house. Transiting Mars will arrive at this degree on June 30, undoubtedly highlighting the plight of veterans who need mental and physical assistance. We now have 2.3 million veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, and at least 20% of these suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.* These veterans, along with the 2.6 million vets from the Vietnam War, create tremendous stress on the social fabric.
Progressed Mars in the U.S. 12th house is an apt symbol for the disenfranchised war veterans as well as the isolated, sexually repressed students who vent their rage on the society that has spurned them. As the co-ruler of the Scorpio Rising chart, Mars represents a significant faction within the population, and one that is growing increasingly destructive under the transiting Pluto-opposite-Sun dynamic. These conditions will only get worse until enough violent PTSD cases lead to paradigm shifts regarding gun laws and how we treat our veterans.
Petro Poroshenko,
The Chocolate King President
“European democracy for me is the best form of government invented by mankind,” said Petro Poroshenko when he was inaugurated president of Ukraine last week. His bold statement signaled his intention to not tolerate Russian aggression in Crimea or eastern Ukraine, although his business ties to Moscow led many to believe he could negotiate a peaceful co-existence with Putin and the Russian government.
Poroshenko was born with his Libra Sun square Jupiter (September 26, 1965; Bolgrad, Ukraine; time unknown), giving him a large presence and bigger-than-life personality. Popularly known as “The Chocolate King” for his immensely profitable stake in the confectionary business, Poroshenko is an oligarch worth some $1.4 billion. His Venus, as the natural ruler of sweets, is enriched by favorable aspects to the outer planets.
But in terms of what trouble could arise during his tenure, we look to Mars, also strongly placed in Scorpio. Mars gains missionary zeal by its wide conjunction with Neptune, and is further enhanced by a close trine to Ceres in Pisces. Due to these favorable natal placements, the activation of his natal Mars can generally be a positive, constructive phase. Transiting Saturn is heading into a conjunction with his Mars in November.
The scene gets a bit tricky when we look at his progressed Mars, which is now at 29º Sagittarius. It’s about to enter Capricorn and by the end of this year will oppose Jupiter. Progressed Mars opposite Jupiter can be described as militarily adventurous, and can make the new president over-confident. His chart becomes even more militant over the coming years as progressed Mars squares his Sun and his progressed Sun conjoins natal Mars. This double influence identifies him with the most combative elements in his domain.
John Green’s “The Fault in Our Stars”
The title of John Green’s young adult novel is derived from Shakespeare’s play where the nobleman Cassius tells fellow conspirator Brutus, “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.” Widely acclaimed by critics and ranked the #1 bestselling fiction of 2012, the tragic romance between Hazel and Augustus is now a three-hanky tearjerker* opening in theaters everywhere.
John Green was born with his Sun in hardworking Virgo (August 24, 1977; Indianapolis, Indiana; time unknown), where it picks up ambition and organizational skills by a trine to his Capricorn Moon. The Sun and Moon are both trine Chiron in Taurus, making him familiar with the inconsolable wounds (Chiron) that disrupt one’s sense of stability (Taurus). “The Fault in Our Stars” centers on young cancer victims who fall in love.
As an expression of his own psyche, the story line can be seen through the personification of his Ceres, which is located in the Cinderella sign of Libra. Ceres forms close aspects to the love planets: its trine to Mars awakens sexual attraction and brings the two lovers together. But Ceres, as the natural ruler of loss and grieving, is also square Venus, bringing their fated love to a tragic conclusion.
John Green’s success on the national scene, both as a vlogger and novelist, is facilitated by his natal Uranus, which is exactly conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. By secondary progression, his Ceres is now at 8º Scorpio, where it conjoins his Uranus (and the U.S. Ascendant). This stellar alignment has brought his tale to the American audience and helping to re-awaken traditional reading habits among teens. Does he owe his success to his stars or his innate abilities?
