re: Colbert - I love Stephen Colbert! In his case, we can see how Saturn rewards hard work. You get what you deserve with Saturn. What he started 14 years ago has reached full flower and will now transition into something new.
re: America's plutocracy - I especially love your last line in the "Rise of America's Plutocracy" post. Yes, that and more. At least a few of us have noticed... It looks like the April 15 "Blood Moon" will be one degree off of both my Sun in Aries, and Moon in Libra. I'm thinking about staying "under the covers," but that doesn't seem to be what your advice is.
re: America's plutocracy - It's turning out more Brave New World than 1984 in some ways... I am constantly shocked by how much pharma my American friends ingest... and it's happening here too in the UK. The only thing that has put the brakes on it is the NHS, and that's not for a good reason, but simply because the government is cheapskate.... Yes -- Pluto is winning the Uranus-Pluto square at the moment...

re: MH370 - Just wanted to share a few comments & questions about the current mystery regarding the missing plane from some fellow astrologers. Like you, we feel that hidden hands set this in motion and that the plane is most likely not in the ocean but landed & hidden for now in another country pending some future action. We have been following the moon in the departure chart to watch the revelations & false starts to current hunt in south Indian sea under the recent Scorpio moon 12th house of that chart then into Sag... high hopes dashed back to square one for the hunt.
So our questions to you... when do you think the world will start searching on land... who do you think will solve this & how long do you feel this could drag on.. lastly we feel not so good about the outcome for the passengers long term... do you agree?
A. The technique of making forecasts about developments in the case based on the transits to the Departure chart is solid. For example, the last communication at 1:30 am happened as the Moon in Gemini reached the Descendant. I suspect transiting Saturn's square to Mercury relates to bad news about the prospects.
re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!
re: Grace and Nicole - Even though Nicole Kidman does have a Scorpio rising, its her Gemini Sun which I feel more, so I agree she doesn't have that deeper sensual vibe thing going on like Grace did.
re: Mars Rx and war - Is Mars Rx a classic signature for war? I've read that in a few places. Here's one of them: " The Grand Cross in March and April of 2014 is especially violent in nature because Mars is retrograde in Libra, a classical astrological sign of war." Also, Lynn Koiner says that whoever initiates war under Mars retro will lose. And that includes litigation. I always thought that was interesting: " In an international war, whoever fires first will automatically lose or ultimately withdraw".
A. Yes, starting a conflict when Mars is Rx doesn't bode well, agreed. But I don't see it as an indicator for war. Don't forget that Mars goes through a retrograde cycle every two years. The major wars generally correspond to hard aspects between the outer planets. So the hard aspects Mars makes during the Grand Cross is another story, and that may surely lead to some open conflicts.

re: Marianne Williamson - Since I recently relocated for good in Rīga, being of dual citizenship and in retirement, I had not heard of Ms Williamson's foray into politics! As always, appreciate your nuanced and yet objective way of doing a reading. Having read a lot of New Age authors, possibly starting with numerous writings by Williamson, I'll be anticipating paying attention to summer developments. It's sort of like a grand experiment, to see if self-actualization translates, somewhat literally, into earthly success...and in politics. Also appreciate the tape with the Oprah interview.
It might just have hit the right note with me, as I return to the land of my birth. Only 1/3 of those exiled by WWII have done so, I recently heard on a Latvian current events channel. That's more than I presumed would return. And certainly, not growing up in a Latvian-American community, I hardly thought that I'd be returning. That's why Williamson's own vision, as you've captured it, is of such interest to me. Seems to point to a Providence, you know? Thanks for an illuminating article.

Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.
re: UR-PL square - I have been keeping a diary of the hits of the Uranus Pluto square and especially when it forms a cross with personal planets and during January, July, October, etc. It has indeed been wreaking havoc in millions of people’s lives. As far as our current Economy goes, I think you are right when you say that the Cancer Jupiter and Scorpio Saturn are supporting or upholding our current Markets and Business situation. However, when Jupiter goes into Leo and Squares Scorpio I think Business as usual and the Overinflated Market will begin to DEFLATE like a punctured Balloon. By the end of Obama’s Lame Duck Term, we may indeed go into another unwanted RECESSION. That is my take on all this. What do you think?
re: your writing - Your work, your writing seems very Virgo: very clear, very precise. You are also a fine writer, such a rare thing. But you feel that magic and it is there in your work if someone is subtle enough to notice it. Astrology is very lucky to have you: someone with so much integrity, precision, professionalism and someone who transmits that magic, although I suspect that is done unwittingly.
A. Thank-you. My Mercury is in Virgo. Much of the credit for having grammatically correct copy every week goes to my proofreader, Kathie Hornyak. She has four planets in Virgo, including her Sun, which makes her a stickler when it comes to using the right word or phrase.
re: Political Astrology - I recently mentioned your book "Political Astrology" on an astrology e-mail list. Unfortunately, your book is not only out of print, the copies that are available are ridiculously priced, one going for over $2000!

Russia Flexes its Muscles
Following U.S. economic sanctions against Russia for its incursions into Crimea, Russia initiated its own round of economic warfare last week by raising the price of gas 80% -- which Ukraine has declined to pay. Meanwhile, some 40,000 Russian troops supported by hundreds of tanks were positioned near Ukraine’s eastern frontier “at a state of advanced readiness”, according to NATO high command.
Russia’s horoscope (June 12, 1990; 1:45 pm; Moscow) accurately reflects the crisis atmosphere, since its progressed Sun is now at 13º Cancer – exactly in line with April’s Grand Cross. Transiting Mars, the fastest-moving planet involved in the Grand Cross, activates the other three outer planets (Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto) over the next ten days when the most militant elements may strike. But Mars returns to this critical degree in June and also opposes Russia’s progressed Mars in July, creating an ongoing, intense military situation.
If Russia is serious about not wanting to invade eastern Ukraine, even as pro-Russian activists in Donetsk have seized government buildings, then the next potential conflict is the escalation of economic warfare. Russia’s chart features Neptune, the natural ruler of
oil and gas, in the 4th house of domestic assets. Its location at 13º Capricorn places it in the midst of the Grand Cross, forcing us to recognize that some 40% of Russian gas exports to Europe pass through Ukraine.
Currently, transiting Pluto is turning retrograde while exactly conjunct Russia’s Neptune, allowing it to manipulate gas supplies as a political and economic lever. Transiting Jupiter is conjunct Russia’s progressed Sun in Cancer, which brings opportunities for making grandstand plays. Transiting Uranus in Aries squaring these planets lends itself to sudden and unexpected developments. Using a combination of military threats and Europe’s dependence on Gazprom, Russia’s influence over Ukraine is strong.
Wal-Mart Goes Organic
Last week Wal-Mart announced that about half of its U.S. stores will start carrying organic products at a substantial discount to other national organic brands. The initiative is a natural response to USDA reports that sales of organic food and beverages are growing about 10 percent annually. Wal-Mart’s own research found that 91 percent of consumers would purchase affordable organic products.
Wal-Marts’ incorporation chart (October 31, 1969; 10:00 am*; Dover, DE) reflects the immense role this big box retailer plays in the American landscape. Jupiter, the ruler of the chart, conjoins Venus in the tenth house, and describes the vast wealth generated by this business. The Sun at 8º Scorpio is exactly conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, so that the company has become identified as the archetypal American shopping experience.
Wal-Mart will sell anything, but groceries are specifically associated with Ceres. Wal-Mart’s Ceres is located at 2º Aquarius and is supported by a network of aspects around the horoscope. Over the last year, as management considered adding organic produce, the progressed Ascendant was conjoining Ceres. The announcement came last Thursday when a transiting North Node-Ceres conjunction conjoined Wal-Mart’s Mercury.
Juno plays an important role in this story. Wal-Mart will be supplied with organic products by Wild Oats, its new business partner. Wal-Mart’s Juno is located at 12º Capricorn, a position currently being activated by the Grand Cross, and most intensely, by a conjunction with transiting Pluto. A significant problem may arise in the not-too-distant future, which is shown by Wal-Mart’s progressed Saturn squaring Ceres: there are simply not enough organic products available to supply Wal-Mart’s enormous market place.

Stephen Colbert, Are You Serious?
Last week Rush Limbaugh decried the selection of satirist Stephen Colbert to replace Late Night host David Letterman, saying that CBS has declared war on America’s heartland. Limbaugh aside, Colbert is a devout Roman Catholic, and started in show business as a serious dramatic actor. His ability to look straight while delivering a quip landed him his first job as a comedian.
Stephen Colbert was born with his Taurus Sun opposite Neptune (May 13, 1964; 1:45 pm*; Washington, DC) which describes his religious sentiments (Sun is in the 9th house of religion), as well as his chameleon-like ability to present himself as something other than he is. Virgo Rising evokes an uptight, conventional personality, but with Uranus conjunct the Ascendant, his quirkiness has become his most recognizable trait.
On October 16, 2007, Colbert announced on his television show that he was running for president, which was generally considered to be a gag, an extension of his projected persona as a blustery rightwing pundit. At the time, transiting Saturn was conjunct his Ascendant, and his progressed Mars was near his Midheaven while exactly squaring his Ascendant. As befits his Sun opposite Neptune, he sent all campaign donations to charity.
Critical, judgmental transiting Saturn was opposing his Sun when CBS announced he would replace Letterman. In this case, we can see how Saturn is beneficial in that he overcame all CBS’s doubts. Of course it helps that transiting Jupiter just turned direct while conjoining his progressed Sun in Cancer. Yet progressed Mars entering into a square with his natal Pluto suggests the intense political turmoil that his appointment is and will continue generating.
