re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!
re: Grace and Nicole - Even though Nicole Kidman does have a Scorpio rising, its her Gemini Sun which I feel more, so I agree she doesn't have that deeper sensual vibe thing going on like Grace did.
re: Mars Rx and war - Is Mars Rx a classic signature for war? I've read that in a few places. Here's one of them: " The Grand Cross in March and April of 2014 is especially violent in nature because Mars is retrograde in Libra, a classical astrological sign of war." Also, Lynn Koiner says that whoever initiates war under Mars retro will lose. And that includes litigation. I always thought that was interesting: " In an international war, whoever fires first will automatically lose or ultimately withdraw".
A. Yes, starting a conflict when Mars is Rx doesn't bode well, agreed. But I don't see it as an indicator for war. Don't forget that Mars goes through a retrograde cycle every two years. The major wars generally correspond to hard aspects between the outer planets. So the hard aspects Mars makes during the Grand Cross is another story, and that may surely lead to some open conflicts.

re: Marianne Williamson - Since I recently relocated for good in Rīga, being of dual citizenship and in retirement, I had not heard of Ms Williamson's foray into politics! As always, appreciate your nuanced and yet objective way of doing a reading. Having read a lot of New Age authors, possibly starting with numerous writings by Williamson, I'll be anticipating paying attention to summer developments. It's sort of like a grand experiment, to see if self-actualization translates, somewhat literally, into earthly success...and in politics. Also appreciate the tape with the Oprah interview.
It might just have hit the right note with me, as I return to the land of my birth. Only 1/3 of those exiled by WWII have done so, I recently heard on a Latvian current events channel. That's more than I presumed would return. And certainly, not growing up in a Latvian-American community, I hardly thought that I'd be returning. That's why Williamson's own vision, as you've captured it, is of such interest to me. Seems to point to a Providence, you know? Thanks for an illuminating article.

Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.
re: UR-PL square - I have been keeping a diary of the hits of the Uranus Pluto square and especially when it forms a cross with personal planets and during January, July, October, etc. It has indeed been wreaking havoc in millions of people’s lives. As far as our current Economy goes, I think you are right when you say that the Cancer Jupiter and Scorpio Saturn are supporting or upholding our current Markets and Business situation. However, when Jupiter goes into Leo and Squares Scorpio I think Business as usual and the Overinflated Market will begin to DEFLATE like a punctured Balloon. By the end of Obama’s Lame Duck Term, we may indeed go into another unwanted RECESSION. That is my take on all this. What do you think?
re: your writing - Your work, your writing seems very Virgo: very clear, very precise. You are also a fine writer, such a rare thing. But you feel that magic and it is there in your work if someone is subtle enough to notice it. Astrology is very lucky to have you: someone with so much integrity, precision, professionalism and someone who transmits that magic, although I suspect that is done unwittingly.
A. Thank-you. My Mercury is in Virgo. Much of the credit for having grammatically correct copy every week goes to my proofreader, Kathie Hornyak. She has four planets in Virgo, including her Sun, which makes her a stickler when it comes to using the right word or phrase.
re: Political Astrology - I recently mentioned your book "Political Astrology" on an astrology e-mail list. Unfortunately, your book is not only out of print, the copies that are available are ridiculously priced, one going for over $2000!

re: market collapse - I am a big fan of yours and I'm on your site almost daily...often Sunday nights waiting for midnight so I can read your Newscope articles. Last week I was sent a video by Joni Patry a Vedic Astrologer. Joni Patry is predicting the collapse of the world markets in January and she goes on to predict that 2014 will be the most significant year of our life times filled with wars, disasters, earthquakes etc. So I have always been questioning if Vedic astrologers have insights that are not available to western astrologers. Could you comment on this?
A. In the video, she explains that she's referring to April's Grand Cross between Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto. She also calls herself a "neo-Vedic astrologer" because she uses the outer planets and Vedic astrologers in general don't use them.So she's more of a western astrologer than Vedic, although she uses the sideral zodiac rather than the western tropical zodiac.
As for a market collapse, or other calamity, no one knows for sure, but it is indeed a signature for major disruption in one form or another. It's particularly relevant for the U.S. since the Grand Cross aligns with the U.S. Sun. NewsScope has been and will continue to feature the major celebrities, political players and national horoscopes being influenced by this Grand Cross.
In my view, adding the outer planets is only a small step toward deploying the most effective celestial bodies. The four major asteroids and Black Moon Lilith add gender balance to the horoscope, and reflect the Awakening Goddess archetypes that traditional astrology, and especially Vedic astrology, ignores.

The Mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370
In the greatest aviation mystery since the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, the fate of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 remains the subject of intense geopolitical interest as numerous clues and theories continue to develop. Pilot suicide? Hijacking? Alien abduction? Cyberwarfare? The horoscope set for the jetliner’s departure (March 8, 2014; 12:41 am*; Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia) can help verify or discount various claims.
The closest planetary aspects and connections to the angles define the overall tone of the chart. Neptune at 5º Pisces is exactly conjunct the 4th house cusp, emphasizing the intrigue and mystery of this particular flight. Neptune squares the Moon in Gemini near the Descendant, adding to the flavor of deception, espionage, and sabotage – nothing is what it seems under this kind of Moon-Neptune set-up.
Venus is a key planet: her opposition to Black Moon Lilith and squares to Mars, Vesta, and Ceres create a dynamic T-square, potentially indicating terrorism. The target becomes evident when we notice that Venus (at 1º32’ Aquarius) is exactly conjunct China’s Ascendant (1º33’ Aquarius). Venus’s close opposition to Lilith and the square to Mars suggest an attack on China’s sense of community. Of the 239 aboard, 153 were Chinese passengers.
Pallas is the most elevated placement in this chart, and gains influence by being conjunct the royal star Regulus and opposite the Part of Fortune. Pallas by nature is a strategist, and in Leo, given a sense of imperial righteousness, implying a politically motivated attack on Chinese interests. All this arrives just as Jupiter has turned direct in Cancer and become engaged with the radical Uranus-Pluto square, which heightens geopolitical tensions. Jupiter in Cancer seeks to expand the homeland culture, religion and autonomy, and it becomes willing to use extreme measures to get it.

East Turkestan Separatists: Hijackers?
East Turkestan is a semi-autonomous province in China’s far west. Like Tibet, East Turkestan seeks independence and has separatist factions around the global village, including in the United States. The majority of the population is Uyghur, which is ethnically related to the Turks. East Turkestan is located along the legendary Silk Road and has been an important cultural link between the East and West for the last 2,000 years.*
The Eastern Turkestan Republic (ETR) declared its independence on November 12, 1944 (Kashgar, China; time unknown) when the Sun and Mars were conjunct in Scorpio and widely squaring Pluto. This intensely militant combination led to a brief existence since Chinese troops occupied the province in 1949, essentially claiming it for its own. However, this date continues to be celebrated by the Uyghur diaspora, and can be used to track the separatist movement.
Capricorn, a degree that was recently contacted by transiting Pluto in Capricorn, and is currently being hit by transiting Uranus.
In fact, as Flight MH370 disappeared, transiting Uranus was exactly squaring the ETR’s progressed Mars. Also, transiting Jupiter had just turned direct and was precisely conjunct the ETR Saturn in Cancer, which one could speculate, offers the hope for increased homeland autonomy. Other factors: the ETR’s progressed Sun just entered Aquarius, expanding its network and interest in self-government. Transiting Mercury was at 20º Aquarius on March 8, where it squared the ETR Mars. Mercury acts as an agent for Mars, i.e., a terrorist or saboteur.
Grace Kelly and Nicole Kidman, Part 2
My statement last week that “Gemini Nicole Kidman doesn’t have the depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality of Scorpio Grace Kelly” evoked some intense reader feedback, with opinions both agreeing and disagreeing. It’s true that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, and it’s also true that Nicole Kidman is incredibly talented and beautiful. Let’s look deeper…
Nicole Kidman was born with a Sun-Pallas conjunction in Gemini (June 20, 1967; 3:15 pm; Honolulu, HI), a combination that enhances her ability to artistically re-create and personify a wide range of film characters, including the luminous Grace Kelly. Her Sun forms a tight octile (45º) to Venus in Leo, which adds to her artistic sense, and gives a highly amorous, affectionate, and loving nature.
Kidman’s Venus is prominently placed in her 10th house of career and exceptionally well aspected. Venus is part of a Fire Grand Trine that connects her money (2nd) and work (6th) houses, making her one of the wealthiest, most admired actresses in show business. Venus sextile Mars just adds to her sex appeal. And having Ceres-Jupiter conjunction at her Midheaven has made her a
generous philanthropist and earned her an appointment as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF.
In contrast to all these wonderful placements, Kidman has some major challenges in her chart: her Mercury-Mars square can be argumentative, and often displays a sharp tongue. Her Moon-Pluto square indicates emotional insecurities and control issues. Mars in the 12th house opposite Black Moon Lilith shows hidden or repressed anger. While these more challenging aspects have stimulated her competitive drive, they don’t evoke Grace Kelly’s general sense of inner calm and serenity. The most tumultuous year of Grace’s life was 1962, which is the episode Kidman captures in Grace of Monaco.
