re: MH370 - Just wanted to share a few comments & questions about the current mystery regarding the missing plane from some fellow astrologers. Like you, we feel that hidden hands set this in motion and that the plane is most likely not in the ocean but landed & hidden for now in another country pending some future action. We have been following the moon in the departure chart to watch the revelations & false starts to current hunt in south Indian sea under the recent Scorpio moon 12th house of that chart then into Sag... high hopes dashed back to square one for the hunt.
So our questions to you... when do you think the world will start searching on land... who do you think will solve this & how long do you feel this could drag on.. lastly we feel not so good about the outcome for the passengers long term... do you agree?
A. The technique of making forecasts about developments in the case based on the transits to the Departure chart is solid. For example, the last communication at 1:30 am happened as the Moon in Gemini reached the Descendant. I suspect transiting Saturn's square to Mercury relates to bad news about the prospects.
re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!
re: Grace and Nicole - Even though Nicole Kidman does have a Scorpio rising, its her Gemini Sun which I feel more, so I agree she doesn't have that deeper sensual vibe thing going on like Grace did.
re: Mars Rx and war - Is Mars Rx a classic signature for war? I've read that in a few places. Here's one of them: " The Grand Cross in March and April of 2014 is especially violent in nature because Mars is retrograde in Libra, a classical astrological sign of war." Also, Lynn Koiner says that whoever initiates war under Mars retro will lose. And that includes litigation. I always thought that was interesting: " In an international war, whoever fires first will automatically lose or ultimately withdraw".
A. Yes, starting a conflict when Mars is Rx doesn't bode well, agreed. But I don't see it as an indicator for war. Don't forget that Mars goes through a retrograde cycle every two years. The major wars generally correspond to hard aspects between the outer planets. So the hard aspects Mars makes during the Grand Cross is another story, and that may surely lead to some open conflicts.

re: Marianne Williamson - Since I recently relocated for good in Rīga, being of dual citizenship and in retirement, I had not heard of Ms Williamson's foray into politics! As always, appreciate your nuanced and yet objective way of doing a reading. Having read a lot of New Age authors, possibly starting with numerous writings by Williamson, I'll be anticipating paying attention to summer developments. It's sort of like a grand experiment, to see if self-actualization translates, somewhat literally, into earthly success...and in politics. Also appreciate the tape with the Oprah interview.
It might just have hit the right note with me, as I return to the land of my birth. Only 1/3 of those exiled by WWII have done so, I recently heard on a Latvian current events channel. That's more than I presumed would return. And certainly, not growing up in a Latvian-American community, I hardly thought that I'd be returning. That's why Williamson's own vision, as you've captured it, is of such interest to me. Seems to point to a Providence, you know? Thanks for an illuminating article.

Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.
re: UR-PL square - I have been keeping a diary of the hits of the Uranus Pluto square and especially when it forms a cross with personal planets and during January, July, October, etc. It has indeed been wreaking havoc in millions of people’s lives. As far as our current Economy goes, I think you are right when you say that the Cancer Jupiter and Scorpio Saturn are supporting or upholding our current Markets and Business situation. However, when Jupiter goes into Leo and Squares Scorpio I think Business as usual and the Overinflated Market will begin to DEFLATE like a punctured Balloon. By the end of Obama’s Lame Duck Term, we may indeed go into another unwanted RECESSION. That is my take on all this. What do you think?
re: your writing - Your work, your writing seems very Virgo: very clear, very precise. You are also a fine writer, such a rare thing. But you feel that magic and it is there in your work if someone is subtle enough to notice it. Astrology is very lucky to have you: someone with so much integrity, precision, professionalism and someone who transmits that magic, although I suspect that is done unwittingly.
A. Thank-you. My Mercury is in Virgo. Much of the credit for having grammatically correct copy every week goes to my proofreader, Kathie Hornyak. She has four planets in Virgo, including her Sun, which makes her a stickler when it comes to using the right word or phrase.
re: Political Astrology - I recently mentioned your book "Political Astrology" on an astrology e-mail list. Unfortunately, your book is not only out of print, the copies that are available are ridiculously priced, one going for over $2000!

Henry Waxman vs. Big Pharma
In 2005, Congressman Henry Waxman (D. CA) revealed how Merck paid doctors to present a distorted view of Vioxx, a best-selling prescription drug with known lethal side effects. Vioxx was pulled from the market, and Waxman became known as Big Pharma’s biggest enemy. Last week Waxman questioned the $84,000 price tag of Sovaldi, which analysts project will become the best-selling drug of all time.
Henry Waxman was born with his Virgo Sun conjunct Neptune, the natural ruler of pharmaceuticals (September 12, 1939; 3:15 am; Los Angeles, CA). The Virgo Sun forms an Earth Grand Trine, connecting Uranus in fiscally conservative Taurus (at the Midheaven), and a forthright Mars in Capricorn. This practical, self-sufficient configuration has made him one of the most enduring, influential liberal politicians in Washington.
Virgo’s natural inclination toward analysis becomes heated criticism in Waxman’s chart since his Mars is under heavy pressure from its square to Saturn and opposition to Pluto. The Mars-Saturn-Pluto T-Square provides intense determination and will power, and often gets involved in exhausting power struggles. When he was investigating Merck in 2004-2005,
transiting Saturn was in his 12th house and conjoining his natal Pluto, how pharmaceutical companies pay doctors to prescribe their drugs. Also, transiting Pluto was squaring his Sun-Neptune conjunction.
Currently, Waxman’s progressed Moon is in his tenth house and conjoining Uranus as he made one more push against Big Pharma. Last week, when transiting Mars was squaring Waxman’s natal Mars, he made a direct attack on Sovaldi as a political act meant to shame Gilead (the manufacturer of Sovaldi) and other drug-makers. The biotech industry as a whole panicked at this public spanking, and the sector fell 10% in a few days.
Waxman will retire in 2016, but with his progressed Mars opposite his Moon, he won’t be going quietly. As a principle architect of Obamacare, he pushed to have transparency about the financial arrangements made between drug companies and doctors. This coming September, the federal government will release details on these payments.* Then you’ll know if your doctor is prescribing drugs because they’re good for you, or because he has a financial incentive to do so.

Conscious Uncoupling
Always a trendsetter, last week actress Gwyneth Paltrow announced that she and her British rocker husband Chris Martin were separating. She described the process not as a hostile break, but a “conscious uncoupling.” The phrase has suddenly become vogue, with psychotherapists, gurus, lawyers and pundits of all stripes weighing in on its pros and cons, and especially how the institution of marriage is evolving.
Gwyneth Paltrow is, of course, an ultra-Libra, with a Sun-Pluto conjunction in the sign of partnership along with Mercury, Ceres, and Uranus. Libras dislike messy emotions and heated conflicts, and so taking the rational approach to inevitable dissolution is a natural expression of the Libra temperament. Transiting Mars in Libra heading into April’s Grand Cross informs us that many couples are going through a similar shift.
Astrologically, the same dynamic can be seen at the geopolitical level, although frequently not as amiable. Crimean citizens consciously uncoupled from Ukraine in their recent referendum. New Jersey’s Governor Chris Christie was back in the news as he touted his conscious uncoupling from former aides who caused the scandalous four-day traffic snarl. Even geophysical uncoupling has occurred, with catastrophic landslides in the state of Washington and an earthquake in Los Angeles.
Separating Aspects, a new book by Armand Diaz, describes the astrological indicators present during a break-up. Focusing primarily on the outer four planets, the author refers to a relationship not as a static object, but as a process in a constant state of flux, developing, evolving and changing into new forms. Since the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the 1960s (and the advent of “The Pill”), marriage has ceased being a fixed institution. With Mars in Libra heading into the Uranus-Pluto square, the morphing process has become intensely conscious for many couples.
Russell Crowe as Noah
Getting Noah to the Big Screen has been a long and controversial task, and now that this religious epic film has arrived during the epic Cardinal Grand Cross, the controversy kicks into high gear. Critics have given very positive reviews, but the film has been banned in Islamic countries and some Christian groups don’t like its “inaccurate” portrayal. Russell Crowe has called these criticisms “irrational”.
Russell Crowe was born with his Aries Sun closely quincunx (150º) Neptune (April 7, 1964; 2:00 pm; Wellington, NZ), which makes him a great cinematic hero. Mars in Aries is especially strongly placed due to its network of aspects, not the least of which is an exact quincunx to Uranus. The Mars-Uranus aspect thrives in dangerous situations, which Crowe has repeatedly demonstrated in his many film roles. Mars also closely squares Ceres in Capricorn, which is ideal for portraying Noah.
Ceres in Capricorn is the patriarchal elder, and the square to Mars shows the conflict and danger he must face. Because Ceres is exactly conjunct the fateful South Node, it carries extra weight in his chart and his life. The intersection between art and reality hit in late October 2012 when filming flood scenes in New York had to be stopped due to Hurricane Sandy. At the time, the transiting Uranus-Pluto square was right on Crowe’s Mars-Ceres.
Another astrological signature further identifies Crowe with the role of Noah: he has a progressed Sun-Saturn square which is being activated by transiting Neptune. He’s eloquently personifying (Sun in Gemini) a Christian patriarchal icon (Saturn in Pisces). Transiting Neptune continues to square his progressed Sun over the next year, and will soon square his natal Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius. This troublesome set-up could make him the target of religious zealots.
