re: astrology rising - Actually, I don't "believe" in Astrology! I tell people: "It is not a Religion. It is not something to 'believe' in." It is simply Plane Geometry -- the study of repetitive geometrical patterns. Particular patterns will repeat themselves, often with the same results. That is where we, Astrologers, get our predictions from.
re: America's plutocracy - I'm struck by the sudden blockbuster best seller "Capital in the 21st Century" by Thomas Piketty. As an exposition of our current economic situation and trending direction, could this book be major force for change?
re: Susan Miller - Interesting to see Susan's chart. I used to work for her, and have met her in person as well a couple of times. Yes, she is one of the hardest working astrologers out there. She told me that she has a keen interest in how words work together, and she had very definite views of how to craft a sentence. For example, she also said to never use 'ing' in a sentence

re: Wal-Mart - Thanks so much for all you do. I especially enjoyed the Wal-Mart story. Wal-Mart is a major contemporary symbol of the US psychic landscape, at least for the common people of the US. I note the perfect conjunction between Wal-Mart's natal Mars and the USA's natal Pluto (and ruling planet). What do you think of that?
A. Yes, that's a major connection. The U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet, describes the power of corporate America, and Wal-Mart is a major manifestation of that, a corporate warrior, if you will.
re: Wal-Mart - Wal-Mart's Saturn is also being eclipsed by the Solar Eclipse on the 28th. And its opposing its Sun as well. I don't think eclipses to Saturn are viewed as beneficial.
re: Colbert - I love Stephen Colbert! In his case, we can see how Saturn rewards hard work. You get what you deserve with Saturn. What he started 14 years ago has reached full flower and will now transition into something new.
re: America's plutocracy - I especially love your last line in the "Rise of America's Plutocracy" post. Yes, that and more. At least a few of us have noticed... It looks like the April 15 "Blood Moon" will be one degree off of both my Sun in Aries, and Moon in Libra. I'm thinking about staying "under the covers," but that doesn't seem to be what your advice is.
re: America's plutocracy - It's turning out more Brave New World than 1984 in some ways... I am constantly shocked by how much pharma my American friends ingest... and it's happening here too in the UK. The only thing that has put the brakes on it is the NHS, and that's not for a good reason, but simply because the government is cheapskate.... Yes -- Pluto is winning the Uranus-Pluto square at the moment...

re: MH370 - Just wanted to share a few comments & questions about the current mystery regarding the missing plane from some fellow astrologers. Like you, we feel that hidden hands set this in motion and that the plane is most likely not in the ocean but landed & hidden for now in another country pending some future action. We have been following the moon in the departure chart to watch the revelations & false starts to current hunt in south Indian sea under the recent Scorpio moon 12th house of that chart then into Sag... high hopes dashed back to square one for the hunt.
So our questions to you... when do you think the world will start searching on land... who do you think will solve this & how long do you feel this could drag on.. lastly we feel not so good about the outcome for the passengers long term... do you agree?
A. The technique of making forecasts about developments in the case based on the transits to the Departure chart is solid. For example, the last communication at 1:30 am happened as the Moon in Gemini reached the Descendant. I suspect transiting Saturn's square to Mercury relates to bad news about the prospects.
re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!
re: Grace and Nicole - Even though Nicole Kidman does have a Scorpio rising, its her Gemini Sun which I feel more, so I agree she doesn't have that deeper sensual vibe thing going on like Grace did.

re: Marianne Williamson - Since I recently relocated for good in Rīga, being of dual citizenship and in retirement, I had not heard of Ms Williamson's foray into politics! As always, appreciate your nuanced and yet objective way of doing a reading. Having read a lot of New Age authors, possibly starting with numerous writings by Williamson, I'll be anticipating paying attention to summer developments. It's sort of like a grand experiment, to see if self-actualization translates, somewhat literally, into earthly success...and in politics. Also appreciate the tape with the Oprah interview.
It might just have hit the right note with me, as I return to the land of my birth. Only 1/3 of those exiled by WWII have done so, I recently heard on a Latvian current events channel. That's more than I presumed would return. And certainly, not growing up in a Latvian-American community, I hardly thought that I'd be returning. That's why Williamson's own vision, as you've captured it, is of such interest to me. Seems to point to a Providence, you know? Thanks for an illuminating article.

Chiron - I want to thank you for your comments on Jeff Bezos, and Chiron in your January 13th column. My brother was born on November 24, 1963 less than 2 days following JFK's assassination. About 7 days after my brother's 50th birthday, he suddenly and unexpectedly lost his eyesight in both eyes to cataracts. Jeff Bezos and my brother were born seven weeks apart from each other, and both of them had transiting Chiron within one degree of their natal Chirons when they experienced their respective sudden and unexpected health issues! My gratitude for all your fine service.
re: your writing - Your work, your writing seems very Virgo: very clear, very precise. You are also a fine writer, such a rare thing. But you feel that magic and it is there in your work if someone is subtle enough to notice it. Astrology is very lucky to have you: someone with so much integrity, precision, professionalism and someone who transmits that magic, although I suspect that is done unwittingly.

re: Donald Sterling - Your evaluation of Donald Sterling is outstanding. I live here in Southern California and have been glued to the coverage of Sterling and the Clippers since the news broke. Underscoring the generational and cultural impacts of Sterling’s Pluto in Cancer era makes the analysis more meaningful. We can we can “see” Sterling through his own historical lens and thus comprehend the origins of his belief system more readily. Too many astrologers neglect the importance of this.

Pluto’s Opposition to the U.S. Sun
Pluto is in the midst of a relatively long-term opposition to the U.S. Sun, having made its second of five exact alignments on May 24. The first opposition took place on March 7, and the third will be on January 2, 2015. The fourth and fifth hits take place relatively close to each other on August 24, 2015 and October 25, 2015.
We can look at these five hits individually as phases in long-term social, political, and economic trends. And the possible manifestations can refer to domestic developments or foreign relations, but either way, this dynamic astro-event is about the realignment of power. The first hit in March coincided neatly with Russia’s seizure of Crimea and Obama establishing economic sanctions against Putin’s oligarchs. In simplest terms, transiting Pluto opposite the U.S. Sun became Putin versus Obama.
The second hit on May 24 arrived only a few days after Russia and China signed a massive natural gas deal, worth some $400 billion over ten years. For Russia, the economic pact served the dual purpose of navigating around U.S. economic sanctions and undercutting the dominance of the dollar as the international currency. As a side note, at some point during Pluto’s five oppositions to the U.S. Sun, China will overtake the U.S. as having the world’s largest economy.
In domestic affairs, the plutocrats are having a banner year. Last week, during Pluto’s second opposition to the U.S. Sun, the AFL-CIO headlined the fact that in 2013 the average CEO was paid 331 times what the average worker earned, up dramatically from previous years. And then a major realtor reported that home sales for the priciest one percent of the market were up 21% so far this year, while for the other 99 percent, sales were down 8%. For America’s wealthiest citizens, Pluto in Capricorn has brought a Golden Age.
Overhauling the Veterans Administration
President Obama announced the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki last Friday following revelations that the VA’s massive hospital system conspired to hide long wait times. Watchdog groups have been reporting this scandalous state of affairs since at least 2000, so why now? In part, it’s because the U.S. now has 21 million vets due to two long engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But the horoscope for the Veterans Administration, set for Herbert Hoover’s signing of Executive Order 5398 (July 21, 1930; Washington, D.C.; time unknown), tells the tale. The Sun in the patriotic sign of Cancer conjoins Ceres, the caretaking asteroid. As the ruler of the Cancer Sun, the Moon takes on added importance, and its conjunction with Mars reflects how this chart is about soldiers.
The VA came into being under a Uranus-Pluto square, which resonates with the current Uranus-Pluto square. By secondary progression, Jupiter now conjoins natal Pluto, which suggests that the VA has become a bloated bureaucracy. The VA’s progressed Sun is now at 19º Libra, and forming an exact square to natal Pluto at 19º Cancer. Thus, the VA scandal is in synch with transiting Pluto opposing the U.S. Sun, which symbolizes the breaking down and regeneration of proud American systems.
Uranus is associated with crises, and it was exactly one Uranus cycle ago that the VA was founded. Shinseki resigned precisely as transiting Uranus conjoined its natal position (orb: 0º04’). Of course Neptune, the natural ruler of scandal, is also involved: transiting Neptune opposed natal Neptune when the problems with the VA hospital in Arizona first became public four months ago. Since transiting Uranus and Pluto are just entering the VA’s natal Uranus-Pluto dynamic, the VA overhaul will not be easily resolved, but continuous dramatic action is assured.
Steve Ballmer and the Los Angeles Clippers
Last week, Microsoft’s former CEO Steve Ballmer was the highest bidder to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers for a reported price of $2 billion. The previous highest price paid for an NBA team was $550 million for the Milwaukee Bucks. But Ballmer had missed out on attempts to buy the Seattle Supersonics and Sacramento Kings, so he made sure he would get this one.
Steve Ballmer was born with his Sun in exuberant Aries (March 24, 1956; Detroit, MI; time unknown), where it trines Saturn and Uranus, making a Grand Trine. This configuration blends innovation (Uranus) with a solid business sense (Saturn) and pioneering, creative leadership (Aries Sun). Mars in ambitious Capricorn conjoins Juno, showing how his career advancement was facilitated by his partnership with Bill Gates.
Ballmer’s Mars becomes the focus when we consider his interest in sports. Its location at 16º Capricorn is also part of a Grand Trine (linked with Venus in Taurus and the Moon in Virgo). It’s energized by a square to Jupiter, and given an interest in managing by a sextile to Ceres in Pisces. This last aspect is the key right now, since by secondary progression, Ceres is exactly conjunct his Sun. His persona is assuming the nature of Ceres, the caretaker (owner) of the Los Angeles Clippers.
However, the process of assuming control of the Clippers has a significant hurdle: current owner Donald Sterling is suing the NBA for $1 billion, and he may launch another suit to block the sale to Ballmer. Sterling has a history of launching lawsuits to get his way. Astrologically, we can see the coming conflict since transiting Uranus and Pluto will be aligning with Ballmer’s natal Mars over the coming year.
