re: astrology rising - Actually, I don't "believe" in Astrology! I tell people: "It is not a Religion. It is not something to 'believe' in." It is simply Plane Geometry -- the study of repetitive geometrical patterns. Particular patterns will repeat themselves, often with the same results. That is where we, Astrologers, get our predictions from.
re: America's plutocracy - I'm struck by the sudden blockbuster best seller "Capital in the 21st Century" by Thomas Piketty. As an exposition of our current economic situation and trending direction, could this book be major force for change?
re: Susan Miller - Interesting to see Susan's chart. I used to work for her, and have met her in person as well a couple of times. Yes, she is one of the hardest working astrologers out there. She told me that she has a keen interest in how words work together, and she had very definite views of how to craft a sentence. For example, she also said to never use 'ing' in a sentence

re: Wal-Mart - Thanks so much for all you do. I especially enjoyed the Wal-Mart story. Wal-Mart is a major contemporary symbol of the US psychic landscape, at least for the common people of the US. I note the perfect conjunction between Wal-Mart's natal Mars and the USA's natal Pluto (and ruling planet). What do you think of that?
A. Yes, that's a major connection. The U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet, describes the power of corporate America, and Wal-Mart is a major manifestation of that, a corporate warrior, if you will.
re: Wal-Mart - Wal-Mart's Saturn is also being eclipsed by the Solar Eclipse on the 28th. And its opposing its Sun as well. I don't think eclipses to Saturn are viewed as beneficial.
re: Colbert - I love Stephen Colbert! In his case, we can see how Saturn rewards hard work. You get what you deserve with Saturn. What he started 14 years ago has reached full flower and will now transition into something new.
re: America's plutocracy - I especially love your last line in the "Rise of America's Plutocracy" post. Yes, that and more. At least a few of us have noticed... It looks like the April 15 "Blood Moon" will be one degree off of both my Sun in Aries, and Moon in Libra. I'm thinking about staying "under the covers," but that doesn't seem to be what your advice is.
re: America's plutocracy - It's turning out more Brave New World than 1984 in some ways... I am constantly shocked by how much pharma my American friends ingest... and it's happening here too in the UK. The only thing that has put the brakes on it is the NHS, and that's not for a good reason, but simply because the government is cheapskate.... Yes -- Pluto is winning the Uranus-Pluto square at the moment...

re: MH370 - Just wanted to share a few comments & questions about the current mystery regarding the missing plane from some fellow astrologers. Like you, we feel that hidden hands set this in motion and that the plane is most likely not in the ocean but landed & hidden for now in another country pending some future action. We have been following the moon in the departure chart to watch the revelations & false starts to current hunt in south Indian sea under the recent Scorpio moon 12th house of that chart then into Sag... high hopes dashed back to square one for the hunt.
So our questions to you... when do you think the world will start searching on land... who do you think will solve this & how long do you feel this could drag on.. lastly we feel not so good about the outcome for the passengers long term... do you agree?
A. The technique of making forecasts about developments in the case based on the transits to the Departure chart is solid. For example, the last communication at 1:30 am happened as the Moon in Gemini reached the Descendant. I suspect transiting Saturn's square to Mercury relates to bad news about the prospects.
re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!

re: Elizabeth Warren - Glad you brought up Elizabeth Warren and her possible presidential run but really, do you have to join the Anybody But Hillary Bandwagon? I have yet to understand the hostility which both right and left wing pundits seem to hold towards her. It is not a product of her political actions but seems personal and malicious. I know of no other politician who has such critical, and pointless, scrutiny of her every action. You could at least try to maintain a veneer of civility towards her.

re: First Trade charts - I know you have written some things about first trade charts in your NewsScope column, but they seem contradictory. For YHOO you use 9:30 AM even though Michael Munkasey's Companies Database has 9:48 AM. For FB you used 11:30 AM. For BIDU you used 11:40 AM. Do you mostly use the actual time of the trade? Why one instead of the other? Have you tried researching the issue with many stocks? The problem with making predictions with FT charts is their complexity. Not only do you have to look at the natal chart, but both the P2 and P3 charts.
A. Your observations on FT charts are on target. I've been studying these charts for at least three years, but not until I got Munkasey's database did I realize that so many FTs are not set for 9:30 am. I analyzed YHOO and wrote about before I got his database, but have been using 9:48 since then. It's a real challenge to understand how the transits and P2 and P3 charts interact, but worth the effort. When the same message appears on all three levels, you get a strong indication of a big move and the direction.
re: Hillary and Neptune - You wrote about the physically weakening influence of Hillary's upcoming Neptune transits, but isn't it the case that Americans do kinda like Neptunian leaders? Isn't it also the case that she can come across as being too tyrannical? Couldn't Neptune softening her be a benefit...make her more appealing?
A. Yes, Neptune softens, and may have other effects. A prominent Neptune may be associated with deception, poor advice from her lieutenants, misinformation, and most likely, promising more than she can keep.
re: Donald Sterling - Your evaluation of Donald Sterling is outstanding. I live here in Southern California and have been glued to the coverage of Sterling and the Clippers since the news broke. Underscoring the generational and cultural impacts of Sterling’s Pluto in Cancer era makes the analysis more meaningful. We can we can “see” Sterling through his own historical lens and thus comprehend the origins of his belief system more readily. Too many astrologers neglect the importance of this.

Global Hotspots Heat Up
A confluence of challenging planetary aspects last week brought several historic developments in our global village, especially in war zones. The conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza were the most spectacular news stories, but significant geopolitical tensions increased wherever oil, religious, military, corporate and political interests were at stake. Perhaps the word most often heard in describing these events was “game-changing”.
This month’s astro-event #4 describes the outer planet cycles that have brought the historic shifts, namely, transiting Saturn and Uranus at 16º Scorpio and Aries making their stations while exactly quincunx (150º) to each other. Black Moon Lilith at 16º Leo conjunct the U.S. Midheaven brings the U.S. into the international turmoil. But with numerous national militaries going into the “red alert” stage, Mars is also an obvious factor.
The transiting Sun and Mars have been moving into a tense square over the last few weeks, and this aspect became exact last Saturday. Under the influence of the Sun-Mars dynamic, people in general get more impulsive, are quicker to lose their temper, and are not prone to making compromises. Very close to the same day that the Sun and Mars squared each other, transiting Mars also passed over the same degree where the Lunar Eclipse took place last April 14, triggering its underlying potential.
In fact, at the moment that Ukrainian separatists shot down Flight MH17, transiting Mars was only 0º15’ past the Moon’s position during that Lunar Eclipse. Around the same time, Israeli tanks began a ground invasion into Gaza. The activating effect of Mars becomes especially relevant to U.S. moves since transiting Mars arrives at 8º Scorpio on August 10, which aligns with the Solar Eclipse of April 29, 2014. And, it’s the same degree as the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant.

The Curse of Malaysia Airlines
When Flight MH17 was struck down by Ukrainian rebels last week, it became the second major disaster for Malaysia Airlines. Only 181 days earlier, Flight M370 mysteriously disappeared after leaving Kuala Lumpur. One tabloid* called it a “curse”, and listed five previous incidents that made it seem as of Malaysia Airlines is somehow being sabotaged by supernatural forces.
Officially known as the Malaysian Airline System (MAS), the company began operating on October 1, 1972 (5:30 am*; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) when the Libra Sun was empowered by its conjunction with Mars and Pluto. These three planets square Jupiter in the corporate sign of Capricorn, allowing the company to expand quickly and prosper during its first 20 years in business. Mercury becomes extra important in this chart, since it rules the Ascendant and Midheaven.
Mercury conjoins technologically savvy Uranus, and trines Saturn and Vesta at the Midheaven, a combination that instills a sense of duty and safety throughout the business. Vesta in particular is associated with safety issues, and it’s well placed in this chart. If there is some kind of curse, it can be seen in Black Moon Lilith’s square to Venus in the 12th house. Vengeful Lilith is located in the 3rd house of spoken words.
The first item on the tabloid’s list of Malaysia Airline tragedies was a hijacking incident on December 4, 1977 that crashed and killed all on board. At the time, transiting Lilith was conjunct the MAS Midheaven and aspecting the natal Venus-Lilith square. Transiting Saturn was conjunct Lilith when Flight 370 disappeared from the radar on March 8, 2014. Last week, progressed Venus and Lilith were exactly (to-the-minute) octile each other when MH17 was mistaken for a military transport jet and shot down.

The Planet of the Apes Franchise
For the second week in a row, The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes took top box office honors, and is becoming the blockbuster hit of the summer. With a compelling storyline and stunning graphic effects, this film -- the eighth in the Planet of the Apes franchise -- has a 91% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics.
The original Planet of the Apes (PotA) premiered on February 8, 1968 (2:15 pm**; New York City, NY) when the Sun in Aquarius conjoined Vesta, and both squared Black Moon Lilith. The glyph for Vesta symbolizes the eternal flame, which in American iconography is best represented by the Statue of Liberty. In the last scene of Planet of the Apes (written by Rod Serling), Charles Heston sees the remaining relic of the Statue of Liberty and realizes he’s landed on planet earth in the bleak future.
I’ve rectified this chart to 2:15 pm partially because it puts 12º Cancer on the Ascendant. This is the same degree as Heston’s Pluto, since he was the critical factor in making this film happen. It also conjoins the U.S. Sun, and with this film’s angular Mars-Pluto opposition, depicts the violent overthrow of American civilization.
After 1973, Planet of the Apes sequels no longer appeared, that is, until Tim Burton’s remake of the original which debuted on July 27, 2001. At the time, Lilith had progressed to its exact square with the natal Sun, which in turn was awakened by transiting Uranus. The current sequel was filmed last year as the transiting Uranus-Pluto square aligned with the Cancer Ascendant, factors which are still active. It was released last week as transiting Black Moon Lilith formed an exact square to natal Lilith.
