re: astrology rising - Actually, I don't "believe" in Astrology! I tell people: "It is not a Religion. It is not something to 'believe' in." It is simply Plane Geometry -- the study of repetitive geometrical patterns. Particular patterns will repeat themselves, often with the same results. That is where we, Astrologers, get our predictions from.
re: America's plutocracy - I'm struck by the sudden blockbuster best seller "Capital in the 21st Century" by Thomas Piketty. As an exposition of our current economic situation and trending direction, could this book be major force for change?
re: Susan Miller - Interesting to see Susan's chart. I used to work for her, and have met her in person as well a couple of times. Yes, she is one of the hardest working astrologers out there. She told me that she has a keen interest in how words work together, and she had very definite views of how to craft a sentence. For example, she also said to never use 'ing' in a sentence

re: Wal-Mart - Thanks so much for all you do. I especially enjoyed the Wal-Mart story. Wal-Mart is a major contemporary symbol of the US psychic landscape, at least for the common people of the US. I note the perfect conjunction between Wal-Mart's natal Mars and the USA's natal Pluto (and ruling planet). What do you think of that?
A. Yes, that's a major connection. The U.S. Pluto, the nation's ruling planet, describes the power of corporate America, and Wal-Mart is a major manifestation of that, a corporate warrior, if you will.
re: Wal-Mart - Wal-Mart's Saturn is also being eclipsed by the Solar Eclipse on the 28th. And its opposing its Sun as well. I don't think eclipses to Saturn are viewed as beneficial.
re: Colbert - I love Stephen Colbert! In his case, we can see how Saturn rewards hard work. You get what you deserve with Saturn. What he started 14 years ago has reached full flower and will now transition into something new.
re: America's plutocracy - I especially love your last line in the "Rise of America's Plutocracy" post. Yes, that and more. At least a few of us have noticed... It looks like the April 15 "Blood Moon" will be one degree off of both my Sun in Aries, and Moon in Libra. I'm thinking about staying "under the covers," but that doesn't seem to be what your advice is.
re: America's plutocracy - It's turning out more Brave New World than 1984 in some ways... I am constantly shocked by how much pharma my American friends ingest... and it's happening here too in the UK. The only thing that has put the brakes on it is the NHS, and that's not for a good reason, but simply because the government is cheapskate.... Yes -- Pluto is winning the Uranus-Pluto square at the moment...

re: Grace and Nicole - Sorry to say Wolfstar but you are DEAD WRONG about Nicole Kidman not possessing the “depth of feeling and smoldering sexuality” of Grace Kelly. As a graduate of the performing arts (in acting) with three degrees in both film and theater, it is painfully obvious to me that you have not seen all of Ms. Kidman’s films nor her performances on the stage. If you had, you would never have made such a BLUNDERING STATEMENT!

re: Israel - You said Israel's progressed moon is at TWELVE DEGREES CAPRICORN????!!!! Isn't that where transiting Pluto is right now? geesh... Couldn't you squeak that in there somehow? It just seems noteworthy. I know how much rage I felt when my progressed Moon was conjunct transiting Pluto a few years ago.
A. Yes, you're absolutely correct. Actually, there are quite a few items I could have added to the narrative, but I try to avoid getting too much astrologese in. Anyway, I'm glad you noticed.
re: Germany - I have six different charts for the German nation--including the Weimer Republic and the Reunification. Have you worked with the German chart? What chart do you recommend?
re: Elizabeth Warren - Glad you brought up Elizabeth Warren and her possible presidential run but really, do you have to join the Anybody But Hillary Bandwagon? I have yet to understand the hostility which both right and left wing pundits seem to hold towards her. It is not a product of her political actions but seems personal and malicious. I know of no other politician who has such critical, and pointless, scrutiny of her every action. You could at least try to maintain a veneer of civility towards her.

re: First Trade charts - I know you have written some things about first trade charts in your NewsScope column, but they seem contradictory. For YHOO you use 9:30 AM even though Michael Munkasey's Companies Database has 9:48 AM. For FB you used 11:30 AM. For BIDU you used 11:40 AM. Do you mostly use the actual time of the trade? Why one instead of the other? Have you tried researching the issue with many stocks? The problem with making predictions with FT charts is their complexity. Not only do you have to look at the natal chart, but both the P2 and P3 charts.
A. Your observations on FT charts are on target. I've been studying these charts for at least three years, but not until I got Munkasey's database did I realize that so many FTs are not set for 9:30 am. I analyzed YHOO and wrote about before I got his database, but have been using 9:48 since then. It's a real challenge to understand how the transits and P2 and P3 charts interact, but worth the effort. When the same message appears on all three levels, you get a strong indication of a big move and the direction.
re: Hillary and Neptune - You wrote about the physically weakening influence of Hillary's upcoming Neptune transits, but isn't it the case that Americans do kinda like Neptunian leaders? Isn't it also the case that she can come across as being too tyrannical? Couldn't Neptune softening her be a benefit...make her more appealing?
A. Yes, Neptune softens, and may have other effects. A prominent Neptune may be associated with deception, poor advice from her lieutenants, misinformation, and most likely, promising more than she can keep.
re: Donald Sterling - Your evaluation of Donald Sterling is outstanding. I live here in Southern California and have been glued to the coverage of Sterling and the Clippers since the news broke. Underscoring the generational and cultural impacts of Sterling’s Pluto in Cancer era makes the analysis more meaningful. We can we can “see” Sterling through his own historical lens and thus comprehend the origins of his belief system more readily. Too many astrologers neglect the importance of this.

Obama’s Solar Return
A reader comments: “Like so many, I have been watching the high theatre going on in the nation’s capital and wanted to ask if you could review president Obama’s solar return for his year ahead.... Any hope things will improve for our president?”
This year, Obama’s Solar Return (SR) has strong parallels to his natal chart, including Aquarius Rising, and the Leo Sun conjunct Black Moon Lilith near the Descendant. SR Lilith in this angular position, and being the dominant archetype influencing his 7th house of open enemies, indicates that Obama’s political opponents will continue to harass the president throughout the coming year.
Lilith’s contrariness is reinforced by the square to SR Saturn in the 9th house. This set-up refers to the extremely challenging developments in foreign affairs. At the moment, the explosive situations in Israel and Ukraine are on the front burner, but other situations may develop that compete for Obama’s attention.
On the plus side, notice that Lilith is trine Uranus, which is the ruler of his SR chart. This configuration infers that he has strong support for his independent actions and his leadership role (Uranus is in assertive Aries). So, as usual, Obama has both powerful enemies and fully engaged supporters. But with the SR Sun closely quincunx (150º) Pluto, the coming year looks exceptionally intense and confrontational.
Another Big Plus is the SR Mercury-Jupiter conjunction in Leo, which trines the Sagittarius Midheaven. Since Jupiter rules the Midheaven and is favorably aspecting it, we can see how Obama’s expressed optimism (Mercury-Jupiter) concerning foreign affairs (Sagittarius) is a most promising set-up. Perhaps these planets in the 6th house of health, and favorable aspecting the Part of Fortune, indicate that Obamacare will survive as his signature accomplishment. This is in spite of pending legal challenges, signified by Saturn in the 9th house.
Israel’s Fully Engaged Pluto
Last Friday, an internationally brokered cease-fire between Israel and Hamas ended only two hours after it began. A look into Israel’s chart (May 14, 1948; 4:37 pm; Tel Aviv, Israel) informs us of what we might expect.
The last Israeli attack on Gaza to root out Hamas militants began on December 27, 2008. The transits and progressions at that time verify Israel’s Ascendant at 1º Scorpio. The progressed Moon had just emerged from the 12th house and was conjunct the Scorpio Ascendant. A transiting Mars-Pluto conjunction was exactly sextile the Ascendant. This dynamic configuration is clearly associated with aggressive action.
Currently, transiting Mars is conjunct Israel’s Scorpio Ascendant and transiting Jupiter is right on its Midheaven, which together, create a climate of military opportunism. The progressed Moon – always a reliable indicator of significant events – is now at 12º Capricorn where it forms an exact quincunx (150º) to natal Pluto, the ruler of Israel’s horoscope, and powerfully placed in the 10th house. Pluto here symbolizes Israel’s mission to control its own destiny as well as its willingness to take extreme measures to secure its survival.
As described two years ago, Israel’s progressed Pluto is squaring the fateful Lunar Node axis. Back then the orb was 0º05’, but now it’s 0º00’. Pluto-Lunar Node hits can bring terrible disasters in their wake, and we are now at the maximum voltage emanating from this major astro-event. The events in Gaza could rapidly spin out of control unless international diplomats pull the combatants apart and establish an enforceable cease-fire. However, with transiting Mars squaring all Israel’s 10th house planets over the coming month, that scenario doesn’t look likely.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Gets a New Start
Over the weekend, one of the nation’s top environmental advocates married an actress. Perhaps that’s not particularly newsworthy, except in this case, the environmentalist is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and a perennial contender for Something Big. His bride is Cheryl Hines, who stars in the sitcom Suburgatory as one of the archetypal Stepford Wives.
“Bobby” Kennedy was born with his Sun in responsible, serious, reliable Capricorn (January 17, 1954; Washington, DC; time unknown). The Capricorn Sun has aspects to many planets in his chart, which in itself, tends to forge leadership qualities. Since RFK Jr.’s Sun is conjunct the North Node, he inherited major expectations. And since his Sun conjoins the U.S. Pluto, he is naturally enmeshed in the American political power structure.
The Sun’s closest aspect is a square to Neptune, which has both derailed his ambition and made him a screen for popular imagination. During his Saturn Return (always an important turning point for Capricorns), he was arrested for possession of heroin. The Neptune influence can also be seen in some of his misguided assertions -- notably, that the vaccine preservative thimerosal causes autism.
Bobby’s Sun conjoins Venus, which depicts the family inheritance of enjoying extra-marital affairs. His Venus forms a precise quincunx to a tight Juno-Pluto conjunction, symbolizing the intense conflict between his commitment to marriage and his natural tendency for dalliances. His previous wife, Mary, committed suicide only four days after he filed for divorce. Currently, transiting Saturn has just turned direct while conjunct his Mars, offering him a well-planned new start with a woman skilled at playing the dutiful wife.
